Lexy's fingers tightened around her phone, her breath catching in her throat. The message on the screen felt like a ghost whispering in her ear.
Unknown Number: You handled Michael well. But you have bigger problems now.
James leaned in, reading over her shoulder. His jaw clenched. "Who the hell is this?"
Lexy's heart pounded. Michael was done. So who else knew?
She quickly typed a response.
Lexy: Who is this?
Unknown Number: The one who can end you.
A chill crawled down her spine. This wasn't just a threat. It was a warning.
James grabbed his phone, dialing a number. "We need to find out who this is."
But before the call could connect, another message came in.
Unknown Number: Tick tock, sweetheart. The truth always comes out.
And then an attachment.
Lexy's blood ran cold as she opened it.
A photo.
Of her and James.
Not in a hotel room. Not behind closed doors.
In public.
They were outside her apartment, just days ago. James' hand on her waist, their bodies too close, their eyes locked in undeniable hunger.
It wasn't proof of their affair but it was damn close.
James swore under his breath. "Someone's watching us."
Lexy exhaled, forcing herself to think. "It's not Michael. He would've played this card first."
James' voice was dark. "Then who?"
Lexy had a terrifying suspicion. There was only one other person who had the most to lose… and the most to gain.
Her boyfriend.
