Synopsis
when families could create their own superheroes, and gain billions upon billions in government funding, well, let's just say the lives of those forced to BE those heroes, isn't going to be what anyone would call normal, or healthy, or even a life at all depending on who you ask. and no one knew that more than Rayna, BloodRayne, a "hero" with the ability to use blood however she wanted, she could create it, make it rain from the clouds, hell, she could even use it to stop another person's heart with nothing more than a thought. which, in this dog-eat-dog world, this, fight or die culture, this, strong eats weak indoctrination, you'd think would be a good thing. I mean, she had godlike power, she secured her family trillions in funding, yes, TRILLIONS, and yet. she was still nothing more than an outcast, a black sheep, all because her family pioneered holy superpowers, and all of them had golden hair and blue eyes. and she didn't. she had pitch-black hair and crimson eyes. to them, she was nothing more than a demon who'd infiltrated their ranks and stolen the spot of their real daughter, her younger sister who failed to be born with ANY powers whatsoever. which, was a much bigger deal than anyone let on, because in families like this, everyone was born with powers, everyone. and yet here she was, "broken", *cough* (normal)*cough*, a crime, a taboo for this family. but not even that stopped her family from treating her like one of their own. like family. like the ONE thing Rayna had wanted from the moment she was born in her first life as Ryan, a powerless nobody abandoned on the streets, a hopeless soul who'd dared to wish for love, a broken being who sought family, even if it meant he'd give up his very body in exchange for another, for one suited for family, one that was attractive, and strong. he was a fool, and he died as one, but Rayna, refused to live as one. and if needed, she'd sleep with, claw, murder, manipulate, or straight up annihilate anyone or anything in her way on her conquest for family, even if it meant she'd have to make one herself. she didn't care. she died for this, it was happening whether the world wanted it to or not. even if it meant she had to become the one thing her mother often called her. the one thing that still managed to pierce her very cold, hardened, isolated heart. "demon."

Chapter 1 - a hero? a villain? human, or monster

"the scene is nothing but chaos as team holy bastion fights with all their might!" the faded voice of the news caster rung faintly in my ears as I punched a hole straight through the body of a rank SS otherworlder, a monstrous invader with a somewhat humanoid appearance, black scaly skin, no face, intensely defined musculature, and blood as red as ours.

a grimace on my face as I yanked my arm free, squeezed my hand to squish it's still beating heart, dropped it carelessly to the ground, and slashed it through the air in an arc, flinging the blood off my uniform and onto the smashed, shattered, broken asphalt below.

my glowing red eyes dimming amidst the still continuing chaos of the battle all around me as I let out a tired sigh and craned my head up to look into the stormy sky relentlessly, shamelessly, unforgivingly pelting my face with heavy rain.

that, despite the deafening sound, the booms of thunder and superpowered combat, the flashes of abilities and lightning, sent an overwhelming sense of calm all throughout my body as I shoved my hands into my pockets, and walked right over to the very perimeter of the warzone.

where, unsurprisingly, an officer, with a shocked and confused look on his face, debated internally whether or not to ask me the question he no doubt had on his mind.

a question I honestly didn't feel like dealing with, so, instead, I tensed my legs slightly, bent at the knees, and before he could even blink, my body blurred out of sight and reappeared on the roof of a building just above him, just beyond the battle barrier my family set up in advance to contain this bullshit.

I sighed, again, for what had to be the fifteenth fucking time today, as I tapped the button in the center of where my collar bone meets, and waited as my uniform changed into normal everyday clothes.

into a cropped leather jacket, a white crop top, slightly baggy blue jeans, and most importantly, thick rimmed, black glasses that changed my eye color from red, to brown.

all of which were of course now just as soaked as I was before.

I celebrated sarcastically to myself while leaning forwards and dashing from rooftop to rooftop faster than the human eye could see.

faster than the raindrops could move.

I smiled, amused at the aftereffects of my speed, as I blatantly ignored the blaring ringtone from the choker around my neck, the same button I'd pressed to don my uniform in the first place.

I mean, I already knew it was a call from my siblings, and I was well aware that I wasn't needed anymore, I took down the SS rank threat, the rest were small fry they could effortlessly handle.

which means, they didn't need me.

I thought to myself with an eye roll and you guessed it, ANOTHER sigh.

lucky number sixteen.

I laughed a little as I made it to my destination and gracefully flipped off the roof, only a little bit bored while I waited to land silently on my feet right on the very sidewalk I found myself on earlier today when I got the call to go in the first place.

where, as expected, just below a shockingly sturdy table umbrella, sat my two best friends, and my backup plan, wait, no, boyfriend, YEAH, that's it, boyfriend.

I corrected myself, well, did I even need to?

he IS my backup plan.

I can't have kids on my own.

I dropped endlessly down the rabbit hole entirely to the blissful ignorance of my friends who, once they were able to see me, hurriedly waved me over to the table.

"you sure have shit luck Ray!" Samantha, Sam, a tall, tan, brown eyed girl with authoritative features, a dominating air to her, and more muscle than she knew what to do with, dressed in a camo jacket, beige crop top, and cargo pants, exclaimed as she tossed me some shitty restaurant napkins.

"don't I know it." I shot back as they blew away in the wind, helpfully of course.

I kept inside as I kissed backup plan, shit, Daniel, his name really does slip my mind a fuck ton, on the cheek and sat next to him, directly across from Sam.

"Yeah RayRay, you should get that studied, maybe it's your power!" Nelly, a small, meek, petite, two by four of a human being, with long red hair, glasses, and freckles, the ONLY person alive allowed to call me RayRay, dressed in a green turtleneck and blue jeans, sparkled, almost literally since her eyes lit up as she shouted it at the top of her impressively large for her size, lungs.

"if that were my power, I think I'd just give up!" I laughed as I leaned onto Daniel, my head on his shoulder.

"then again, maybe it's only active when I'm not he-" I almost finished when, right on cue basically, a dark black luxury sedan with blacked out windows pulled right up to the curb, my family's logo emblazoned on the back doors.

"or not." I pretty quickly remarked as I sighed, strike 17, apologized to my friends who, at this point in knowing me, were well aware this happened a lot and that I had no choice, reluctantly got up, and got into the car.

a blank expression on my face as it pulled from the curb, and my mother's piercing glared tried to drill holes into my eye sockets.

"you abandoned your brothers and sisters." she snarked as I took my glasses off and stared back at her with glowing red eyes.

"I didn't, I took care of the threat they couldn't, they didn't need me there to babysit the whole time." I shot back, unphased by my own mother.

"or are you telling me your perfect little angels needed a demon to keep them safe, to keep them from breaking their precious little nails." I mocked openly, and obviously, my punches refusing to be kept in the shadows.

"I can't win with you, I stay, you're mad, I leave, you're mad, I exist, you're mad, I almost die and you're mad, will you do me a favor and fucking pick one?!" I roared, exhausted from the constant back and forth, my eyes glowing violently as if to punctuate my point.

"well?!" I exhaled as she clicked her tongue in annoyance, and in a tone of absolute superiority, replied, "if your power was able to be transferred, then yes, I would've killed you the moment it was in your sister's hands, a shame your power is bound to your soul and not your body, but as your mother I don't have to explain anything to you, you WILL follow my orders whether you want to or not, it's the only reason you're alive." the middle aged uptight, entitled cunt snooted snootily like she had any actual way to back that statement up.

I laughed, got up from my seat, got right in her face from where she was sitting in the row facing the back window, and let out with dangerously glowing red eyes, "threaten me again, and I will kill everyone you've ever loved right in front of you, try me you stupid, powerless cunt, I am your God, and the only reason I tolerate you is because you're not worth it, you can't even scratch me you sniveling, pathetic little insect, I could end you with a fucking thought, a THOUGHT, so remember that next time." I sighed, my eyes dimming back to normal as I sat back down and looked out the window.

a pang of disgust at myself aching through my heart as she spat, "demon." with tears welling in her eyes.
