Chapter 4 - Karma is fast Knocking

Two months went by like a flash. Sitting on the hospital bed, Blair watched the nurses get her ready for another operation. She was barely holding on, her body weak and her mind clouded with worry. Deep down, the truth hammered within her. She could tell from the looks of her nurses and stage of doctors that the end was inevitable, but for some reason she held on tight to it, too tight for her good.

The doors of the private ward opened, revealing the cold, stern eyes of her husband. Kabir Marge walked in his steps, steady yet commanding. The nurses needed not to be told to get lost, for they were out the door by the second he made his presence known. No one wanted to be a scapegoat for his riot. Blair shifted on the bed, but her body was too weak to sit up alone. Gently and carefully, he reached out, helping her. The silence between them broke when he said something that broke her even more.

"It will not survive it." Blair felt the room spin for a second. Her pale fingers slowly wrapped around her barely visible baby bump. She was too skinny; her bones were showing as if the baby was feeding off her flesh.

"There must be something we can do," she pleaded, but the look on his face was defined. "We leave for country M in two days," he walked out without giving her time to digest the sudden change of plans. Blair sat on the bed, and like a wave of hypnosis had been injected in her.

She had so much she wanted to say, so many things she wanted to talk about... can we save the baby and not me? Can you try to feel the baby... so much to ask, the words were almost spilling out of him, but he was gone like the wind. All that was left was her and the baby, which will no longer be a part of her in no time. The nurses rushed back in and soon began where they had left off.

The next months flew by with a blur of preparation, sleeping, waking up, watching time tick away, getting on the plane, and before she knew it, a year had gone by. It all happened so fast. Standing before the huge mirror of her room, Blair swayed her hair, now full and flourishing. Her skin, once pale and white as a ghost, now filled with life and glamour.

The deal had not been as bad as she had imagined. The man she married not only helped with her health but also helped sharpen her brain. "Mrs. Marge," a soft voice called from outside her bedroom. Blair quickly walked over, opening the door and taking the little one into her arms.

"You can go now, Marrie," the baby squealed and giggled at the sight of his mother. His big, obsessive eyes stared into her like she was his world. "Naughty Alec, why are you up so early without your brother?" The baby purred in her arms, making her smile even more. It's been a year, and the boys are doing well. She had never thought she would have children of her own not to mention having twins.

Alex was older, a quiet child, who would rather observe and loved to be in the shadows, while Alec was loud, an attention seeker, and a fun. She could see herself and Kabir in their children as they grew up.

"Should we have a 2-month party for you?'' she asked Alec, who squealed in her arms like he understood. Blair carried the little one outside, staring at the night sky. It's been a year and so much has changed; she survived and is now the mother of two handsome boys. Her husband was her rock, a man who had stood by her even at her worst.

"Time has so much to offer, and we are ready," she whispered against her sleeping baby. It was past his sleeping time, and he quietly carried him back to their room. Alex was up and quiet as always. He lay on his bed, gazed at the dim light through the curtain's cracks.

"Can't sleep without your brother?" Blair chuckled, placing a sleeping Alec by his side. As if understanding her gestures, before scooping over and closing his eyes. Blair watched her children sleep. There were her little treasures, one she would not bargain with for anything.

"Watching the boys sleep?" a warm voice asked from behind, and she nodded instantly, recognizing who it was. His cold hands wrapped around her tiny form, pulling her closer into his embrace as they watched the boys. "They're ours," Kabir whispered against her hair, and she nodded.

"Yes, they are." Deep down, she felt happy; she was content, but something was lacking.

"Ethan." The name tasted like ash on her tongue. He had outlived his happy days, and now it was time for a reality check. "It's time to head back to the country L for karma is fast knocking on someone's door."
