Great! Here's Chapter 37 of Tangled Fates by Favo
The city awoke to flashing headlines:
"Arrest Warrants Issued for Mei Li Zhang and Ru Feng!"
"Cybercrime Crackdown: Mei Xing Vindicated Once Again."
But while the news brought relief to many, it sent Mei Li spiraling. For someone who had always used her beauty, status, and manipulation to get her way, the idea of wearing prison cuffs was unbearable.
"Pack everything we can," Mei Li ordered, frantically pacing. "We're leaving the country tonight."
Ru Feng was already panicking. "We won't make it. They've probably alerted airports and borders. You don't understand—they're not playing games anymore, Mei Li. The authorities are serious now."
"I don't care!" she barked. "I still have connections. I'll find a way out."
But what she didn't know was that every step she made was already being tracked. Mei Xing had anticipated her move—this time, she was two steps ahead.
Back at Mei Xing's residence, the atmosphere was tense but hopeful. Jin Hao and his little sister played in the garden while Mei Xing held a strategic meeting with Kai, Zhao Chen, and two government officials.
"We've locked down the major airports," the lead official reported. "Her name is flagged on the no-fly list. If she tries to leave, she'll be detained immediately."
"Good," Mei Xing replied, her voice steady. "I want her caught not just for my sake, but for every mother she's ever hurt."
Zhao Chen added, "Also, we've traced a phone call she made to a former diplomat—an old flame of hers who once dealt in human trafficking. It looks like she's trying to escape through an underground network."
Mei Xing's eyes narrowed. "Then that's where we catch her."
Later that night, Mei Li and Ru Feng reached a seedy warehouse near the outskirts of the city. A van waited, guarded by shady men dressed in black.
"This is our only way out now," Ru Feng muttered. "We get in, they smuggle us through the border."
But just as they stepped toward the van, floodlights exploded from every angle.
"Police! You are surrounded! Hands in the air!"
Mei Li froze, her heels scraping against the concrete as she tried to run. But it was too late—officers tackled Ru Feng, while others cornered Mei Li, guns drawn.
"This is a mistake!" she screamed. "I'm innocent! I was framed!"
But the handcuffs clicked around her wrists, silencing her final act of drama.
Back at home, Mei Xing received the call she'd been waiting for.
"She's been caught," Kai said, smiling for the first time in days. "Both of them."
A slow breath escaped Mei Xing's lips. Relief, justice, and closure all rolled into one moment of peace.
"Then it's finally over," she whispered.
But deep inside, Mei Xing knew the scars Mei Li had left wouldn't disappear overnight. Still, with her son in her arms, her family beside her, and justice finally served, she knew she had won more than just a battle.
She had won her life back.
