Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The First Walls

Leon stood on a small hill overlooking his settlement. The sun was dipping toward the horizon, casting long shadows over the crude wooden huts and dirt paths.

His people—his settlers—were working hard, some cutting logs, others piling stones.

A few days ago, they had been frightened peasants, uncertain about their future.

Now? They were building.

Ding!

[Quest Progress: Strengthen Your Domain]

Build basic defenses (0/1)

Train your first group of fighters (0/5)

Leon exhaled. "We need to move fast."

The Shadowfang Wolves were just the beginning. If this world had monsters, it probably had bandits, rival lords, and worse.

He turned to Garrick, who was overseeing a group of settlers practicing with makeshift spears.

"How's the training going?"

Garrick folded his arms. "Slow. These men have never held a weapon before." He sighed. "But they're learning."

Leon watched as a young man thrust his spear forward, barely keeping his balance.

Yeah. They had a long way to go.

Ding!

[New Feature Unlocked: Construction Mode]

Allows the Lord to designate structures for building.

Assign settlers to speed up construction.

Upgrade buildings over time for better defenses and production.

[Basic Structures Available:]

Wooden Palisade (Fortification, 100 Logs)

Watchtower (Scouting, 50 Logs, 10 Stone)

Barracks (Basic Training, 200 Logs, 50 Stone)

---

Leon's eyes lit up.

This… this is exactly what we need.

He immediately selected the Wooden Palisade option.

A semi-transparent blueprint appeared before him, outlining a defensive perimeter around the settlement.

"Alright," Leon said, turning to the workers. "We're building a wall."

The settlers paused, exchanging glances.

"A wall, my lord?" one of them asked.

"Yes," Leon said, his tone firm. "A wooden palisade. It won't be perfect, but it'll be a start."

The workers murmured among themselves, then—one by one—they nodded.

Leon assigned 10 settlers to construction, and a new progress bar appeared in his vision.

---

[Wooden Palisade Construction: 0% → 10%]

Estimated Completion: 2 Days

---

Leon grinned. This is just the beginning.

---

While the wall was going up, Garrick continued drilling the first batch of fighters.

Leon observed rather than participated. He knew his strengths—planning, strategy, and decision-making. Fighting? That was Garrick's domain.

The five trainees weren't knights—they were farmers, fishermen, and laborers. But they were learning.

Leon crossed his arms.

Garrick noticed and smirked. "Satisfied, my lord?"

Leon nodded. "They'll need time. But this is a good start."

Garrick chuckled. "Everything starts somewhere."

Leon turned his gaze to the horizon.

Their real challenges hadn't even begun yet.

But when they did?

He'd be ready.
