Chapter 8 - The Tree-Colliding Torchic

[666, the streamer is practically saying he hopes for world peace.]

[LOL, living in peace with magical beasts? We're being charitable just by not exterminating them.]

[Isn't the person above being a bit too extreme?]

[A certain failed art student from a certain country thinks you're too extreme.jpg]

Knowing that the path to educating people about Pokémon was long and arduous, Su Feng wasn't too bothered by the hateful comments.

Overall, things were moving in a positive direction. At least he saw many supportive comments agreeing with him.

Moreover, many people had accepted the unified term "Pokémon," as well as the names Beedrill and Rattata for specific Pokémon.

"Well, Rattata, it's time to say goodbye. I'll come see you again if I get the chance."

Su Feng gently patted the Rattata's head as a farewell. Although he said he'd come back, he knew he probably wouldn't return to this forest often, so it was just a polite gesture.

Such is the harsh reality of adulthood.

The Rattata seemed a bit reluctant to part, gently nibbling on Su Feng's clothes.

"Oh, you're going to miss me too?" Su Feng's eyes lit up.

But then the Rattata pointed at Su Feng's backpack.

Su Feng: "..."

In the end, Su Feng took out another Oran Berry, which the Rattata happily accepted before darting off with the berry in its mouth, disappearing in a flash.

"...So heartless."

Su Feng sighed. He had hoped to recruit a bodyguard.

From his earlier encounter with the Beedrill, Su Feng realized that in the Pokémon world, no matter how strong an individual was, it was always better to have a Pokémon companion.

"Let's go, deeper into the forest."

Su Feng turned the drone's camera toward himself as he ventured further into the forest, chatting with the audience about basic Pokémon knowledge.

"Pokémon also have a food chain. Bird Pokémon prey on Bug Pokémon, though sometimes high-level Bug Pokémon can turn the tables..."

"In the Pokémon world, type matchups are crucial, but if the level difference is significant, higher levels can overpower type disadvantages..."

"Pokémon love all kinds of berries. Besides being a food source, some berries have various beneficial effects, making them the ultimate currency in the Pokémon world..."

...

"Chirp! Chirp!"

"Huh? What's that sound?"

Just as Su Feng was getting into the flow, a clear chirping sound rang out nearby.

[What's that sound? A new Pokémon?]

[I raise chickens, and that sounds like a chick to me.]

[It does sound like one, but what chick can chirp that loudly...]

[My rooster chirps that loud.]

[Hey, little hater, get out of here. Don't you dare disrespect my rooster.]

Su Feng couldn't help but laugh at the comments, but after a moment's thought, he decided to investigate the source of the sound.

Following the chirping, Su Feng passed through a patch of trees and soon saw the source.

"This is...?"

A small, orange, chicken-like Pokémon standing on two legs was repeatedly slamming itself into a thick tree trunk.

*Thud! Thud!*

From the sound of the impacts, it was clear the little chicken was putting all its strength into each collision.

[Uh, streamer, did you just run into another magical beast?]

[Wow, your luck is something else.]

[Streamer! This little chicken is so cute!]

[This little chicken looks like the Blazing Chick that appeared in Japan!]

[I think so too. The Blazing Chick can spit out extremely high-temperature flames. It's way more dangerous than the Iron-Eating Beast. Be careful, streamer!]

[But what's it doing? Why is it constantly crashing into the tree?]

"Calm down a bit..."

"Don't worry, I know more about this Pokémon than you do."

Su Feng hid in the bushes, aiming the drone at the so-called Blazing Chick, and began his explanation.

"The name Blazing Chick isn't bad, but this little guy's real name is Torchic. It's a pure Fire-type Pokémon."

"Its body is mainly orange, covered in fluffy feathers, and it has two tiny wings."

"Torchic has a flame sac inside its body that constantly burns. As long as it's alive, the flame sac keeps burning, which makes it feel very warm when held, like a giant hot water bottle."

"They occasionally swallow small stones to aid digestion and increase the temperature of the flames they spit out."

"They're generally gentle and a bit playful when young. They usually don't attack humans, so their danger level is relatively low."

"As for why it's crashing into the tree..." Su Feng scratched his head. "Honestly, I'm not sure."

[Hah, I thought the streamer knew everything about these magical beasts.]

[Magical beasts only appeared recently. The streamer already knows a lot.]

[The quality of what the streamer has shown us far surpasses other educational streamers. He even explains Pokémon behavior, which you can't find anywhere else.]

"Alright, alright, let me figure out what it's doing."

Su Feng chose to ignore the skeptical comments.

After multiple collisions, the Torchic was finally flung back by the recoil, lying on the ground, unable to get up for a while.

Now Su Feng could see the details of the Torchic's condition. While it looked sturdy, its body was covered in injuries, with traces of blood seeping out.

Su Feng noticed this and frowned.

"This Torchic is injured, and it's not light."

"Normally, Torchic don't self-harm, so why is this one..."

[Ugh, this is heartbreaking to watch.]

[I run a poultry farm, and I can't stand seeing chicks get hurt.]

[Running a poultry farm... don't you see injured chicks all the time?]

[Yeah, so the injured chicks end up in my stomach. I don't see them anymore.]

[LOL.]

"Chirp."

The injured Torchic struggled to get up, took a deep breath, and then charged at the tree again.

*Thud! Thud!*

Although Torchic's strength was relatively weak, after so many collisions, the tree now had a noticeable dent.

"I get it now. It's... training."

[Training? You call this training? Isn't this self-harm?]

[I can't watch this anymore. There's blood all over the tree.]

[What's this little chicken thinking? There's no way it can break such a thick tree with its body strength.]

[Streamer, can you help it?]

Of course, Su Feng didn't need the comments to prompt him. He was already planning to help the Torchic.

Slowly emerging from the bushes, Su Feng revealed himself to the Torchic.

The moment it heard the noise, the Torchic stopped colliding with the tree and turned to look at Su Feng warily.

"Torchic, don't be nervous."

"Your training method is flawed. If you keep this up, not only will you not get stronger, but your injuries will weaken you."
