The plane touched down on the runway in Santiago, Mia's face lit up with an uncontrollable grin. She had dreamed of this moment for years, and it was finally here - she was going to finish high school in Santiago!
Mia's best friend, Rachel, had been attending high school in Santiago for a year now after she and her family moved from Los Angeles. And she had regaled Mia with stories of the school's quirky teachers, lively spirit weeks, and strong school pride. Mia had always been fascinated by Rachel's experiences and had longed to be a part of it all.
As the plane taxied to the gate, Mia's excitement grew. She couldn't wait to reunite with Rachel, explore the city, and start this new chapter of her life. She felt like a kid on Christmas morning, eager to unwrap all the surprises that Santiago had in store for her.
When the seatbelt sign finally flicked off, Mia was the first one out of her seat, grabbing her backpack and practically bouncing down the aisle. She couldn't contain her enthusiasm as she made her way through customs and baggage claim, her mind racing with thoughts of all the amazing experiences that awaited her.
As she emerged from the airport, Mia was struck by the stunning natural beauty of Santiago. The towering Andes mountains rose up in the distance, their peaks still capped with a dusting of snow. But Mia's gaze was focused on the city itself, her eyes scanning the streets and buildings for a glimpse of the school that would be her home for the next few years.
"I'm really here," Mia whispered to herself, hardly able to believe that her dream had finally come true. She took a deep breath, feeling the excitement and anticipation build up inside her. This was just the beginning of an amazing adventure.
She took a deep breath, feeling the cool mountain air fill her lungs. She scanned the crowd, her eyes searching for a familiar face.
Suddenly, she heard a loud squeal and turned to see Rachel running towards her, a huge smile on her face. Mia's eyes lit up as she dropped her backpack and flung her arms around Rachel.
"Mia! Oh my god, you're finally here!" Rachel exclaimed, squeezing her tightly.
Mia laughed, feeling a mix of excitement and relief. "I know, I'm finally here!" she replied, pulling back to examine Rachel's face. "You look amazing, Rach! Santiago agrees with you."
Rachel grinned, her eyes sparkling. "Thanks, Mia! You look pretty great yourself. I love your hair like that."
Mia touched her hair self-consciously, feeling a little shy. "Thanks, I just got it cut before I left LA."
Rachel nodded, linking her arm through Mia's. "I'm so surprised your parents let you travel down to Santiago to finish high school."
Mia smiled, feeling a sense of independence wash over her. "I know, I'm surprised too! But I've always wanted to be here in Santiago with you, and my parents finally agreed to let me come here for high school. I'm going to be living in the dormitory, and I'm really excited about that."
Rachel nodded enthusiastically. "That's amazing, Mia! You're going to love it here. And I'm so glad you're going to be at my school. We're going to have so much fun together!"
As they made their way to the parking lot, Mia couldn't help but feel grateful for her friendship with Rachel. She had always admired Rachel's sense of adventure and her willingness to take risks, and now Mia was following in her footsteps.
When they reached Rachel's car, Mia tossed her backpack into the trunk and climbed into the passenger seat. As they pulled out of the parking lot, Mia felt a sense of excitement and anticipation build up inside her. She was finally in Santiago, and she was ready to take on whatever this new chapter of her life had in store for her.
"So, what's the plan for today?" Mia asked Rachel, turning to her with a grin.
Rachel smiled back, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, first we're going to drop off your bags at your dormitory. Then, we're going to grab some lunch at the cafe at your dorm. And after that, we're going to head to school for orientation."
Mia nodded enthusiastically, feeling a sense of excitement build up inside her. This was going to be an amazing day.
As they drove through the city, Mia couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the unfamiliar sights and sounds. The streets were lined with tall trees and colorful buildings, and the air was filled with the sounds of car horns and chatter.
Rachel noticed Mia's fascination with the city and smiled. "I'm so glad you're loving it here already," she said. "Santiago is an amazing city, and I know you're going to love it here."
Mia nodded enthusiastically, her eyes still scanning the streets. "I can already tell," she said. "It's so different from LA, but in a good way. It feels more... vibrant here."
Rachel laughed. "That's a great way to describe it," she said. "Santiago definitely has its own unique energy. And I'm so excited to share it all with you."
As they approached the dormitory, Mia felt a mix of emotions. She was excited to start this new chapter of her life, but she was also a little nervous. What would her dorm room be like? Would she like her roommate?
Rachel seemed to sense Mia's nerves and gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Mia," she said. "You're going to love it here. And I'll be right there with you every step of the way."
They alighted and stride towards the dorm with Mia's luggage. Luckily, they met the dormitory hostess at the doorstep.
"Good afternoon, Mrs Smith." Rachel greeted the chubby woman in her mid-forties who smiled as soon as she saw Rachel, there was a familiar relationship between them.
"Rachel! Is there something I can help you with?" Mrs Smith asked still smiling.
"My bestfriend, Mia transferred schools from LA." Rachel explained.
Mrs Smith nodded and opened a file in her hand. "Mia....?" She asked.
"Mia Petrov." Mia called her name.
"Oh! Petrol." Mrs Smith called and nodded in acknowledgement. "Welcome to Santiago high-school. Your room is on the third floor, dormitory 105." She added with a smile.
"Thank you, Mrs Smith." Rachel thanked her and walked into the dormitory with Mia following closely behind. As they entered the dormitory, Mia's eyes widened in awe. The interior was modern and sleek, with comfortable-looking couches and chairs scattered throughout the common area. Rachel led the way, expertly navigating the stairs to the third floor. Mia followed closely behind, her eyes scanning the surroundings as she took in the sights and sounds of her temporary home.
When they reached the third floor, Rachel stopped in front of a door marked "105" and turned to Mia with a smile. "Welcome to your room, Mia!" she exclaimed, pushing open the door to reveal a cozy and inviting room.
Mia's eyes widened as she took in the sight of her new dorm room. The room was larger than she had expected, with two comfortable-looking beds, two desks, and a large closet. The walls were painted a soothing shade of light blue, and the floors were covered in plush carpet.
Rachel followed Mia into the room, dropping her backpack onto the floor with a thud. "So, what do you think?" she asked, looking around the room with a critical eye.
Mia took a deep breath, trying to take it all in. "It's amazing," she exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement. "I love it!"
Rachel grinned, looking relieved. "I'm so glad you like it," she said. "Wait, until I show you around."
Mia chuckled. "You look more excited than I am about this." She said.
"I'm just glad to have you around. I'm glad to have my bestfriend around." Rachel said.
Mia smiled. "So what is the plan?" She asked as she started unpacking and folding her clothes in the closet close to the bed she chose.
"Well, I was thinking we grab a snack at the cafeteria before the orientation." Rachel explained.
"Sounds like a plan." Mia said.
As Mia finished unpacking, Rachel glanced at her watch and exclaimed, "Oh, we should get going! The orientation will be starting in one hour and we have to grab a snack first." Mia nodded in agreement. "You should change clothes too."
Mia raised a questioning eyebrow. "What's wrong with my clothes?" She asked as she looked at her sundress.
"Well, you are in Santiago now, you have to blend in. You can't go to an orientation looking like that." Rachel said eyeing her dramatically.
"Fine. What do I wear then?" Mia asked folding her arms in front of her.
"A nice blouse and trousers with sneakers will do the trick." Rachel said shrugging.
Mia chuckled, it was a typical Rachel, a fashion freak. She quickly changed her clothes and running a quick hand through her hair.
Rachel grinned, satisfied with Mia's appearance. "You look great, Mia. Let's go!" She exclaimed, linking her arm through Mia's and leading her out of the dorm room.
As they walked to the cafeteria, Mia couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. She was finally here in Santiago, starting this new chapter of her life, and she was eager to see what lay ahead.
The cafeteria was bustling with students, all chatting and laughing, some looked lost, probably new students. Rachel led Mia to the food counter, as they waited in line to order their snacks, a group of three students approached them, eyeing Mia with curiosity. There were two girls and a guy, all of whom looked like they were around Mia's age.
One of the girls, a petite blonde with a bright smile, caught Rachel's eye and exclaimed, "Rachel! Hey, girl! Who's your friend?"
"Hey guys, meet Mia." Rachel introduced with a wide proud smile.
"Mia...your LA bestfriend. Whoa!" Another of the girl with brown hair and dark skin exclaimed.
"We have heard so much about you. Rachel wouldn't stop singing your praises. It's nice to meet you, I'm Alex." The guy among them introduced, he acted all cheesy and girly, it was so obvious he was gay. Mia couldn't help but notice Alex's flamboyant personality. He was bubbly and energetic, with a flair for the dramatic. His voice was high-pitched, and he gestured with his hands as he spoke. Mia found herself smiling at his antics, feeling drawn to his warm and friendly demeanor.
"I'm Sofia. What brings you to Santiago? Rachel never mentioned you were coming." The blonde girl introduced.
Mia smiled. "Well, I came for a different high-school experience." She said.
"Nice choice. Welcome to Santiago. And yeah, I'm Lyra." The girl with brown hair introduced smiling.
"I love what you did with your hair. Dope." Alex said smiling, his voice resembled that of a female.
"Thanks." Mia smiled.
As they waited for their snacks, Lyra and Sofia started asking Mia questions about her life in LA. Mia happily shared stories about her family and friends, feeling grateful for the warm welcome she was receiving.
When their snacks were ready, Rachel suggested they grab a table and eat together. As they sat down, Alex started telling a story about a recent school event, using exaggerated gestures and facial expressions to bring the story to life. Mia found herself laughing along with the others, feeling like she was already a part of their group.
As they finished their snacks, Rachel glanced at her watch and exclaimed, "Oh, we should get going! The orientation is going to start soon, and we don't want to be late." Mia nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. She grabbed her backpack and stood up, smoothing out her clothes.
The group of friends made their way out of the cafeteria, chatting and laughing as they walked. Alex was still telling stories, using his dramatic flair to bring the tales to life. Lyra and Sofia were giggling and playfully teasing each other, while Rachel and Mia walked together.
As they walked, Mia couldn't help but notice the beautiful architecture of the school. The buildings were a mix of modern and traditional styles, with intricate stone carvings and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The campus was surrounded by lush green trees and colorful flowers, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
After a few minutes of walking, they arrived at the orientation podium, a large outdoor amphitheater with a stage and seating for hundreds of students. The area was buzzing with excitement, as new students and their families mingled and chatted.
Rachel led the group to a section of seats reserved for new students, and they sat down, looking around at the crowd. Mia felt a sense of nervousness wash over her, but Rachel reached out and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
Just as the orientation was about to start, a group of five students walked in, drawing the attention of everyone in the crowd. They were all dressed in the expensive clothings, but there was something about them that set them apart from the rest. They exuded an air of confidence and superiority, as if they owned the place.
Mia's eyes scanned the group, taking in their poised demeanor, until they landed on one person in particular. He was tall, with chiseled features and piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. His dark hair was perfectly messy, and his sharp jawline was accentuated by a subtle stubble.
But what caught Mia's attention was his demeanor. He looked indifferent and cold, as if he couldn't care less about the orientation or the people around him. His eyes seemed to hold a hint of disdain, as if he was superior to everyone else. He had a demeaning aura about him that made Mia feel uneasy.
What caught her off guard, however, was the woman walking beside him, holding his hand. She was stunningly beautiful, with long blonde hair and piercing green eyes. She seemed to be gazing adoringly at the guy, and Mia couldn't help but wonder who she was and what her relationship was with him.
As the group made their way to the front row, the guy's eyes met Mia's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Mia felt a shiver run down her spine as she sensed a spark of tension between them. She quickly looked away, trying to shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of her stomach.
Rachel noticed Mia's reaction and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?" she whispered.
Mia shook her head, trying to play it cool. "Nothing," she whispered back. "I just...I don't know, I just felt a little weird for a second."
Rachel nodded understandingly. "It's okay, it's just nerves. You'll get used to it here."
But as Mia glanced back at the guy, she couldn't shake off the unfamiliar feeling she felt.
