The sound of running water filled the small apartment as Rin stepped into the bathroom, closing the door softly behind him. Yuna watched with crossed arms, still not convinced that bringing a complete stranger into their home was a good idea.
Jiyeon stretched her arms with a tired sigh. "You don't have to glare at the bathroom door, you know."
"I'm not glaring," Yuna muttered, plopping down onto the couch.
Jiyeon chuckled and sat down next to her.
"You have that disapproving look you always get when you hate something," she teased, poking Yuna's cheek.
Yuna swatted her hand away playfully, unable to hold back a small smile.
Jiyeon chuckled. "You're so dramatic. It's just for one night."
"One night too many," Yuna shot back. She hugged a pillow to her chest, staring at the steaming cup of tea her sister had just set on the table. "You seriously have no idea who he is, do you?"
Jiyeon shook her head. "No. But does that mean we should have left him out there?"
Yuna sighed, knowing her sister had a point, but still unable to shake the sense of discomfort. "No, I guess not. But what if he's dangerous?"
Yuna hesitated. Of course, she wasn't heartless—she had seen the way Rin had stood there, drenched and shivering, looking like a lost child. But something about him unsettled her. It wasn't just that he was a stranger; it was the way he had looked at her—like he was measuring her reaction, as if he was used to people turning him away.
Something about that look made her uneasy.
Before Yuna could respond, the bathroom door creaked open.
Rin walked out, his wet hair sticking to his face, his thin frame swallowed by the dry clothes Jiyeon had given him. He looked better after the shower, but the exhaustion in his eyes hadn't vanished.
Jiyeon got up from the couch and approached him. "Feeling better?" she asked, her voice gentle.
Rin nodded, but his gaze flicked towards Yuna briefly, as if sensing her lingering skepticism.
Rin gave a small nod. "Yeah. Thank you." His voice was quiet, polite—but there was something distant about it.
Yuna tapped her fingers against her arm, observing him. "So… what's your deal?"
Jiyeon groaned. "Yuna."
Yuna shrugged, still unconvinced. "What? It's a fair question."
Jiyeon sighed, while Rin simply looked at Yuna with an empty gaze, as if weighing whether to answer her or not.
Rin lowered his gaze, his fingers twitching slightly at his sides. "I… don't have anywhere to go."
Silence filled the room. Jiyeon looked at Yuna, silently pleading with her to drop the interrogation, but Yuna wasn't satisfied.
"No family? No friends? Nowhere at all?"
Rin shook his head. "No. No family. No friends."
His words were hushed and resigned, as if the thought of no one caring about him was nothing new. Yuna felt an inexplicable pang in her chest, but she quickly suppressed it.
Jiyeon sighed. "You don't have to talk about it if you're not ready. Just rest for tonight, okay?"
Rin hesitated before nodding.
Yuna exhaled sharply, running a hand through her hair. "Fine. But just so we're clear, I still don't trust you."
Rin's shoulders tensed at her words, his expression hardening just a bit. "I understand."
He held her gaze for a moment longer before walking over to the couch and sitting down, his shoulders hunching forward as he rested his arms on his knees. Jiyeon shot, Yuna a disapproving look, but Yuna just shrugged, pretending to be unaffected.
"Great. As long as we're on the same page," she mumbled, grabbing her phone and heading toward her room. "Good night."
She didn't wait for a response before shutting the door behind her.
But as she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, she couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning of something much more complicated.
As Yuna laid in her bed, the events of the evening kept swirling through her head, refusing to let her sleep.
The sight of Rin standing there, drenched and shivering, was still stuck in her mind. She tried to shake off the strange sympathy she felt for him.
He was just a stranger, after all—one who would be gone tomorrow.
