Chapter 2 – The Name She Never Forgot
Evelyn stood frozen.
The letter lay on the floor, her name written in his familiar handwriting, the words burning into her mind.
"Evelyn, I never meant to leave you."
Her hands trembled.
For seven years, she had trained herself not to think about Adrian Hale. She had convinced herself that he was a ghost of the past, nothing more.
But now…
He was back.
And she had no idea what to do.
A sharp knock on the door made her flinch.
She quickly wiped her hands against her dress, trying to steady herself before walking toward the door.
She knew who it was before she even opened it.
Michael.
Her fiancé stood outside, holding a bouquet of roses. His warm brown eyes crinkled as he smiled.
"There you are," he said. "I thought I'd surprise you."
Evelyn forced a smile, but her heart was still racing.
Michael leaned in to kiss her cheek. "You okay?"
"I… yeah," she lied.
But her hands clenched at her sides.
She needed to tell him. She should tell him.
But how do you tell your fiancé that your first love just sent you a letter after seven years of silence?
