Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 The Meet Up

Edward's Point of view

It was Saturday, and I was in class, but my mind was somewhere else.

 "What should I wear?"

Tomorrow was the party, and I wanted to impress Lisa. I needed her to see me differently.

 A hand shook my shoulder.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Hannah asked, concerned.

"Nothing. Just… the party tomorrow. "I want to look good for Lisa," I admitted.

Hannah rolled her eyes. That's what's stressing you out? It's a simple task, Ed

 "I just… don't want to disappoint her," I sighed.

She smirked. "You don't need to worry. I got you. We'll make sure you stand out."

Relief flooded through me. "Thanks, H. You're a lifesaver."

After class, we headed to a men's fashion store. Carl went home, and Lisa messaged that she'd be coming back late after hanging out with friends.

Hannah flipped through the racks. "Alright, what's her favorite color?"

 I froze.

"You have no idea, do you?" she teased.

I scratched my head. "Well… she wears a lot of light blue. Dresses, pajamas… I guess she likes them."

Her expression softened. "So you do pay attention to her."

I smiled. "She looks gorgeous in light blue. I can't help but notice."

Hannah chuckled. "My little Ed is madly in love."

After searching, she handed me a light blue dress shirt and black jeans.

 "Try these on."

When I stepped out of the dressing room, Hannah didn't say a word. She just walked straight to the cashier and paid.

"Go change, drop me home, and trust me—your wife will lose her mind when she sees you."

 Sunday -

Lisa's Point of view

 The party was tonight.

I came early with my friends, Mia and Luna, to relax before Edward arrived.

"Where is he?" Mia asked, scanning the entrance excitedly.

"Yeah, where's our brother-in-law?" Luna added, grinning.

"He'll be here," I said casually. But inside, I felt restless.

"Why do I care so much? What's wrong with me?"

Then, I heard a collective gasp from a nearby group of girls.

I turned to see Carl walking in—dressed in an all-black suit, exuding effortless confidence. The girls were practically drooling. Even Mia and Luna looked starstruck.

"That's Carl—Edward's best friend," I said, smirking at their shocked faces.

No way. "That hottie is your husband's best friend?" Mia whispered.

I nodded, but my attention shifted back to the entrance.

And that's when I saw him.

 Edward.

 My breath hitched.

He walked in behind Carl, wearing a perfectly fitted light blue dress shirt and black jeans, his hair styled differently—sleek yet effortlessly charming.

Every girl in the room turned to look.

Even the girls near me were whispering about him. I clenched my jaw, an unfamiliar burning sensation rising inside me.

Mia nudged me. "Lisa… is that…?"

"Yeah," I said, my voice louder than necessary. "That's my husband."

The group of girls whispering nearby immediately stiffened.

I smirked. That's right. Hands off.

As soon as Edward reached Carl, his eyes scanned the room—searching. And then, they locked onto mine.

A small smile appeared on his face. That smile… My heart skipped a beat.

"They're walking this way," Mia whispered excitedly.

"Girl, you really want to leave this guy?" she nudged me.

Yeah, I want to. I replied, though my voice lacked conviction.

You hit the jackpot. Just look at him—he's perfect for you. Luna added, shaking her head.

"I know, but he's four years younger. I don't want to spend my life with some immature boy."

 Mia scoffed. "So what?"

Before I could respond, she hit me with another question.

"How did he know blue was your favorite color?"

 I blinked. "I… I don't know."

It wasn't a big deal, right? But as I stole another glance at Edward, something tugged at me.

"Trust me, that guy looks at you like you're the only thing that matters," Luna whispered.

 I swallowed hard.

"He really wore blue just for you," she added.

How do you know? Maybe it's an old shirt I tried to brush off.

"Nope. Look at how new and crisp it is. He bought it today or yesterday—just for you."

That… that shouldn't make me happy. But it did.

"So, he's been noticing me?" My inner self was screaming.

"Duh," Mia smirked. "If a guy truly loves you, he notices every little detail."

A small, involuntary smile tugged at my lips.

Before I could respond, I felt a sudden wave of irritation. The surrounding girls were staring at Edward. My Edward.

Wait—what? No, no, stop thinking like that.

 "Maybe… he's not so bad," I murmured.

Maybe? "Girl, he's a dream," Luna teased.

Oh! No—did I say that out loud?

"Yes, you did," they both replied in sync, laughing.

Before I could argue, Edward and Carl reached our table.

 Edward's Point of view

I barely heard the music. My focus was on one thing—Lisa.

God, I didn't know she'd be wearing light blue too. It almost felt like we were in matching outfits.

"Hey," I greeted her, my voice softer than I intended.

"Hey," she replied, but this time, she didn't avoid my gaze.

Her eyes… even in darkness, they glowed.

Lisa was staring at me. Not just a glance—really looking.

She hadn't done that before. My heart raced.

I greeted Mia and Luna quickly, then sat across from Lisa, even though there was an empty seat next to her. If I sat too close, I might lose my composure.

Carl sat beside me, and soon, everyone was chatting easily. Mia and Luna acted like they had known us forever.

But Lisa… she kept glancing at me when she thought I wasn't looking.

She had no idea that every time she looked, I was already looking at her.

 Lisa's Point of view

The night passed in a blur of laughter, drinks, and lingering glances.

After a while, I excused myself to the restroom. Mia and Luna followed.

"He's a gentleman," Luna said as soon as we were inside.

A smile tugged at my lips.

Why are you still avoiding him? What's the real problem? Mia asked, crossing her arms.

I hesitated. "I feel like I'm using him."

Their faces snapped toward me in shock.

 "What?" Mia asked.

"After we got married, my dad suddenly became nice. Not just to me—but to Edward too. He's acting like he owns the world now. There's something they're all hiding from me."

I lowered my voice. "And Edward… he's just a kid. He has a whole life ahead of him. I don't want to ruin it with my problems."

"That 'kid' is completely in love with you," Mia shot back.

My stomach flipped. "How do you know?"

The way he looks at you. His eyes say everything. You own his whole heart. Luna said. "I wish someone would look at me like that."

Mia smirked. And just so you know—we're not on your side. We're his.

I sighed. I feel like he's hiding something too. I don't even know anything about his family.

"That's because you never ask," Mia pointed out. You always avoid him. How are you supposed to learn about him if you never try?

Luna smirked. "And if you let him go, it'll be your biggest regret. I might just snatch him from you."

 "NO! He's mine!" I snapped.

 They burst into laughter.

Mia suddenly turned to me. "Wait… is Carl single?"

I blinked. "I don't know. Ask him yourself."

"Wait… did he melt the all-famous Mia Stone?" I smirked.

 Mia rolled her eyes. "Maybe."

Luna grinned. "He's perfect for you."

I shook my head, laughing. "Let's go back."

 The Shocking Note

Before heading back to the table, I stopped at the cashier.

I knew Edward would try to pay—even if he didn't have the money—so I wanted to settle the bill before he could.

But when I asked for the total, the cashier shook his head.

 "It's already paid, ma'am."

 I frowned. "By whom?"

"Some men came in and paid. They also left a note for you."

A cold chill ran down my spine as I opened the note.

"Happy married life, Mr. and Mrs. Edward."

My hands trembled as I read the sender's name.

 Deluca.

 I nearly dropped the paper.

The Deluca family? The most powerful, respected, and dangerous people in the underworld?

Why would they pay for our bills?

 And… Mr. and Mrs. Edward?

The weight of those words settled in my chest.

For the first time, I was publicly recognized as his wife.

And strangely enough… it suited me.

Then, my gaze snapped toward Edward.

He was laughing, carefree, like the happiest man in the world.

A pang of something I couldn't name shot through me.

I wish he could smile like that with me.

But no—I couldn't ruin his life.

 I had to stay away.

 Then I heard giggling.

A group of girls had gathered around Edward, practically draping themselves over him.

A sharp, possessive anger surged through me.

 Do they want to die?

Before I could act, Mia and Luna stepped in and saved him.

I exhaled sharply, stuffing the note into my pocket.

 I needed answers.

And Edward… he wasn't as simple as he seemed.

 I started walking toward him.

It was time to find out the truth.
