Chapter 22 - Mastering the Wings

Holding the hilt of the Seven Kill Sword, Chen Yuan smoothly returned to the top of the cliff and landed beside Chen Xin. He retracted his martial soul and said:

"Teacher, jumping off the cliff is very effective. In such a perilous state, my blood and soul power were stimulated, gradually opening up the blood vessels and meridians leading to the Golden Feather Wings. I can now control them slightly, but to fully master them, I'll need more stimulation."

Chen Xin stood with his hands behind his back and chuckled lightly upon hearing this. He looked at Chen Yuan and said casually:

"You've got quite the nerve, kid. But this isn't entirely a bad thing. Go ahead and master the Golden Feather Wings as soon as possible. It will be a tremendous help to your future cultivation. After all, this is an external spirit bone that can grow with its owner."

Chen Yuan nodded, then turned and walked back to the edge of the cliff. He bent his knees slightly, then leaped off the cliff with a powerful jump.

As his body fell, he experienced the same sensation as before—the intense feeling of freefall swept over him. The thrill and danger caused his blood to surge and his soul power to soar, rushing through his limbs and gradually opening up the blood vessels and meridians leading to his Golden Feather Wings.

By the time the sky began to darken, Chen Yuan had jumped off the cliff more than 30 times. The stimulation from the hundred-foot cliff was diminishing, but the gains he had made today were significant.

Although his body and the Golden Feather Wings were covered in bruises, he had finally managed to retract the wings into his body. Now, he could finally put on clothes. Otherwise, with his bird-like appearance, he wouldn't have been able to wear any shirt without cutting holes in the back for the wings.

As night fell, Chen Xin and Chen Yuan roasted some bird meat over a campfire and ate it with some dry rations. Afterward, they settled into a cave to rest.

Chen Yuan didn't sleep soundly. He felt an unusual sensation in his back—a mix of soreness and swelling. After some thought, he concluded that it was his Golden Feather Wings being nourished and repaired by his blood and soul power after the day's intense cliff jumps. With that in mind, he decided not to worry about it.

The next day, Chen Yuan was full of energy. After careful consideration, he chose a seven-hundred-foot cliff to meet his needs and provide even greater stimulation.

The results were outstanding. Chen Yuan could now control his wings well enough to hover in the sky for extended periods. However, his flight was still not agile enough for combat and could only be used for travel.

On the third day, Chen Yuan pushed himself even further, selecting a sixteen-hundred-foot cliff that towered into the clouds, majestic and imposing. He jumped off it without hesitation.

Perhaps it was the accumulation of over a hundred cliff jumps, or perhaps the sheer intensity of this jump provided the necessary stimulation. Whatever the reason, his blood vessels and meridians were fully opened, achieving perfect circulation with his body. Blood flowed freely, making the Golden Feather Wings strong and powerful. Soul power circulated seamlessly, allowing him to control the wings as effortlessly as his own limbs.

In the vast blue sky, white clouds drifted leisurely, and a gentle breeze blew. Suddenly, a golden figure streaked across the sky. Upon closer inspection, it was none other than Chen Yuan.

The Golden Feather Wings on his back, spanning over six meters, emitted a faint golden light. After being nourished by his blood and soul power, the feathers extended like sharp daggers, giving the edges of the wings a serrated appearance. This made the wings resemble two razor-sharp blades.

In the sky, Chen Yuan flapped his wings to soar upward, then folded them to dive downward. He maneuvered with incredible agility, a testament to the immense progress he had made over the past few days.

Not only that, but Chen Yuan had also flown between two stone pillars, swinging his Seven Kill Sword as he passed. The pillars, which required two or three people to encircle, were cleanly severed and toppled over.

This feat was made possible by the sharpness of the Seven Kill Sword and the speed boost from flight. Chen Yuan's current strength couldn't be measured solely by his level or soul rings. Although he was only a Soul Elder, ambushing and defeating a group of Soul Ancestors wouldn't be difficult for him.

After a while, Chen Yuan descended from the sky. As he landed, he retracted the Golden Feather Wings into his body and put on a set of Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect robes. Since using the external spirit bone always caused his clothes to tear, he had stopped wearing a shirt altogether.

At this moment, Chen Yuan looked at Chen Xin with a smile and said:

"Teacher, I've mastered the Golden Feather Wings. I believe they will be a great asset to me in the future."

Chen Xin nodded, then suddenly seemed to remember something. His expression turned serious as he said:

"Yuan'er, spirit bones have always been treasures coveted by soul masters. Once discovered, people will kill to seize them. Although external spirit bones aren't like the other six spirit bones—they won't drop after death—not every soul master can recognize them as external spirit bones. Therefore, you must use the Golden Feather Wings sparingly. I won't always be by your side, and there's always a risk that someone might take desperate measures. However, now that you have the ability to fly, there aren't many who can stop you."

Chen Yuan understood the stakes and wouldn't take unnecessary risks. He nodded and replied:

"I understand. Thank you for the reminder, Teacher."

Seeing this, Chen Xin said no more. With a thought, his body rose into the sky, his hands still behind his back, looking as carefree as an immortal. He then said:

"It's time to return to the sect. Now that you have the ability to fly, follow me back on your own. This will also serve as a form of training for you."

Chen Yuan immediately summoned his martial soul. With a wave of his hand, a flash of white light appeared, and the Seven Kill Sword materialized in his grasp. A yellow and two purple soul rings rose from beneath his feet.

"Third Soul Skill, Sword Wings Like Flight!"

The Seven Kill Sword enlarged, growing to about two meters in length and half a foot in width. It floated in mid-air, then descended and positioned itself horizontally in front of Chen Yuan.

Now that the Golden Feather Wings were under control, it was time to practice sword flight.

Chen Yuan jumped onto the Seven Kill Sword but immediately lost his balance, swaying unsteadily. He quickly adjusted, first stabilizing his center of gravity and then fine-tuning his soul power output to achieve a balanced state with the sword.

After a moment, he finally steadied himself. With soul power infused into his legs, he stood firmly on the sword, as if his feet were rooted like an old tree.

A smile spread across his face as Chen Yuan formed a sword gesture with his hand. He raised it slightly, then pointed forward, murmuring:

"Rise, go!"

The Seven Kill Sword slowly ascended, reaching the same height as Chen Xin, and then flew toward him.

Chen Xin noticed the movement behind him and nodded inwardly. He controlled his speed and flew forward.

To accommodate Chen Yuan, who was still inexperienced in sword flight, their return to the sect took considerably longer.
