"My lord!?" A voice broke the moment, causing both men to jump apart, startled and flustered. They quickly separated, each feeling a rush of panic and worry................................
Reign turned toward the source of the voice, his eyes widening ever so slightly as though he had seen a ghost. "Adeline?", he breathed, his gaze falling upon the woman standing before him. His butler, with his head lowered, stood just behind her. "Yes, this is indeed me.", Adeline said with a small, almost playful smile lingering in her lips, looking up at Reign excitedly. "Who brought you all the way here, if I may ask?", Reign inquired, his eyes sharp, as though they could cut through diamond. A flurry of emotions stirred inside him—his heart raced once again, but this time, it was due to nervousness.
"Your butler, OfCourse.", Adeline responded with a tone that hinted at mild amusement, her gaze fixed on him. "And what brings you here, unannounced?", Reign asked brushing the smirky tone of hers away, he had other things to worry about, his beloved. "What do you mean what, my lord? I'm your fiancé soon wife, I think I have the right to visit you whenever I feel as to.", she retorted, folding her arms against her chest. "Escort Miss Adeline back to her carriage," Reign instructed his butler firmly. The butler nodded, helplessly, but before he could speak, a voice interrupted him. "Uh-Uh, it's Mrs.Volks, get it right.", she teased grinning at Reign who looked at her with face scrunched up in slight disgust and annoyance in his eyes.
Through all the chaos, there was one who remained lost in thought—Cyrus. The pain in his chest was unbearable as he processed the realization that she was Reign's fiancée, the woman he might one day marry. The kitten curled in his arms purred softly, offering him some comfort, but his heart ached. As she declared herself to be taking Reign's name, he felt a pang of anguish, as though he was being left behind by the man he adored. Cyrus's mind racing with many thoughts, if he wasn't gripping the kitten in his arm, his hand sure would've been seen shaking with worry and discomfort and pain. Cyrus couldn't help but think about her being by Reign's side for the eternity, making the clenching in his heart increase. Cyrus wouldn't lie and say that he wasn't jealous of the woman, she gets to stand beside Reign with all due respect unlike himself. He can't compare to a noblewoman like her, Can he?
"Who is this man, Reign?", a sudden voice breaking through all the anxious thoughts making Cyrus look up his gaze from the ground beneath. It was Adeline.
"Try to mind your own business, Adeline and be on your ways", Reign snapped, annoyance lacing his words as he glanced away, hoping they would leave him and Cyrus in peace. "I need my answers, besides my dad sent me here to spend time with you, my future husband.", Adeline insisted. "He is someone very dear to me", Reign said, his gaze briefly falling on Cyrus, who stood there timidly, looking almost vulnerable like the kitten in his hand. "Oh? Is that why you were hugging him so closely?", Adeline questioned, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Yes, he's someone important to me. There's nothing wrong with hugging someone I care about," Reign answered, his voice steady as he glanced back at Cyrus, who looked momentarily taken aback by his words. "Now with all due respect, take your leave Ms. Adeline.", Reign added, his patience wearing thin. He had dealt with her nonsense enough in his previous life.
"No, father told me to spend time with you.", Adeline said as she walked closer towards Reign, looping her arms around his. Reign looked more and more annoyed as he tried to snatch his arm back. "Adeline, stop acting like a child, let go.", he demanded, his voice growing sharper.
As he glanced around, he noticed Cyrus was gone.
"Let go, for God's sake!!", Reign raised his voice, making her release her grip, startled by his anger. She had never seen him like this before. "Get out of my sight," he ordered, his tone authoritative as he turned to leave, leaving a stunned Adeline and the butler behind.
"This way, Miss Adeline.", the butler said, escorting her away.
"Cyrus?", Reign voiced out as he roamed around the garden trying to find his beloved. "Cyrus?", his voice holding desperation, his heart racing in worry. "Why did you let her hold you like that, you damn fool?" he muttered, his breath shallow with worry.
He got out of the garden finding no sight of Cyrus letting out a long sad and disappointed sigh. "I'm sorry, my love.", Reign whispered out, running his hand through his short jet-black hair in frustration. "I'm fucking all this up already", he voiced out anxiously, not knowing what to do or how to fix it either. His heart felt heavy with worry and guilt, worry because Cyrus was nowhere to be found, guilt as to not getting her off of himself fast enough.
"Reign..." A muffled voice, faint but familiar, reached his ears. A smile slowly spread across his face.
"Cyrus? It must be Cyrus—he's the only one who calls me that."
"Cyrus!" Reign cried, spinning around, his heart leaping, a small but relieved smile tugging at his lips.........................................................
