The strange energy Ronan had felt in the air all this time was spiritual energy—a force that enhanced everything in the world, making it stronger than it should be. However, only a rare few could absorb this energy, cultivating it within their bodies to grow stronger and stronger until they reached immortality.
There were various schools, academies, and sects dedicated to training those with this potential, guiding them on the path to becoming immortals. One of them was the Nine Sutra Immortal Sect.
Understanding this, Ronan felt an intense curiosity.
If he could become strong enough, perhaps he could break through the limits of this world. And if immortality had no end—just as the merchants had said—then maybe, just maybe, he could one day return to his original world.
A power strong enough to traverse worlds...
This realization ignited a fire in Ronan's heart. He was determined to see if he had the potential to cultivate. Fortunately, the Nine Sutra Immortal Sect accepted disciples all year round, meaning he could go there at any time and take their entry test.
"If you want, you can come with us," one of the merchants offered. "We're heading to Karjat City in three days."
Ronan agreed. However, his mind drifted back to Elvana.
What happened between them was a mix of desire and curiosity, yet she was still his first woman, just as he had been her first man. The thought of leaving her behind unsettled him.
Should he really just leave like this?
This question lingered in his mind even as he returned home with Zyrris, who was ecstatic for him. Throughout the journey, Zyrris eagerly shared what little knowledge he had about cities and immortals, having visited Karjat City twice before.
However, Ronan wasn't paying much attention. His mind was elsewhere.
When they arrived at the house, Zyrris wasted no time in sharing the news.
"Ronan has the potential to become an immortal! He's leaving for the city in three days!" he announced.
Hearing this, Noctis' eyes lit up as she turned to Ronan with a bright smile.
"Congratulations! If you truly become an immortal, don't forget about us!" she said, her gaze shifting subtly to Elvana.
Elvana remained silent.
She had heard everything, but instead of happiness, a deep sadness filled her chest. She didn't understand why—only that her heart felt like it was being squeezed, making it hard to speak.
Ronan wasn't sure what to say either.
After a moment of silence, he finally spoke.
"I'll never forget you all," he said sincerely. "I owe my life to you. If it weren't for you taking me in, I might have died out there. I'm truly grateful."
Zyrris was overjoyed, deciding to prepare a special dinner that night—a rare vegetable soup and rice meal. Normally, they only had soup in the mornings, with plain rice for lunch and dinner.
Elvana, forcing a smile, joined in.
"I'm happy for you, too," she said softly.
As the night went on, everyone finished their meal and retired to bed.
But that night, Ronan couldn't sleep.
And neither could Elvana.
