Chapter 7 - Chapter 6 - The Gaze of the Eternal

Lucian couldn't move.

Not because of fear—though it clawed at the edges of his mind.

Not because of exhaustion—though his legs still trembled from his desperate escape.

But because something was watching him.

Not just a presence. Not just a feeling.

A certainty.

It coiled around him like unseen chains, pressing down with an unbearable weight.

The air itself turned to glass, trapping him in a moment that refused to pass.

Two golden reptilian eyes bore into him—luminous, unwavering.

Not hostile.

Not angry.

But curious.

A creature so impossibly vast that even the Titan Behemoth paled in comparison.

Its sheer enormity defied reason, a living mountain of scales and raw power, its slow breaths sending ripples through the air like the very atmosphere bowed to its existence.

As if the world itself acknowledged its rule.

Lucian's breath came in slow, uneven gasps.

His body remained frozen, but not in terror—at least, not in any way he had ever known. This wasn't panic. This wasn't fear of death.

This was something deeper.

Something primal.

Something old.

A flicker of something stirred deep within him—an instinct not entirely his own.

A foreign yet ancient memory, whispering of battles waged in forgotten realms.

His instincts screamed at him to run, yet he couldn't.

Not because he was incapable—

but because it was allowing him to remain.

A realization struck like ice in his veins.

It could erase me.

Not kill.

Not destroy.

Just…

unmake me.

The thought was so vast, so incomprehensible, that nausea twisted deep in his gut.

He had never felt this powerless before.

Not against the Abyssal Direwolf.

Not even against the Titan Behemoth.

This was beyond fear.

This was oblivion.

Then—

A voice.

Deep. Resonant. Absolute.

It didn't just echo through the cavern—it rippled through the air, a force that pressed against his skin, rattling his very bones.

"How strange… a mere insect dares to step into my lair without trembling?"

The walls vibrated. The ground hummed beneath his feet.

This wasn't just sound.

The world itself acknowledged this being.

Lucian flinched, his heart slamming against his ribs.

It wasn't just speaking.

It was commanding reality to listen.

His mind raced for an explanation.

A dragon.

Not just any monster—

Not like the Abyssal Direwolf or the Titan Behemoth.

Those things had power.

This thing had awareness.

And yet—

Something stirred inside him.

Something deep in his blood, barely perceptible, like a whisper of recognition.

Lucian forced himself to swallow. He had to say something—anything—to prove he wasn't just frozen in fear.

But before he could speak, the dragon's head tilted slightly.

Its gaze sharpened.

Lucian felt it immediately—

Not just looking at him.

Looking through him.

A sharp, unbearable pressure dug into his skull, prying apart his thoughts.

Memories distorted, unraveling as if something was peeling them away, layer by layer.

He tried to resist—

tried to hold on—

but the force was relentless.

His mind.

His body.

His very soul.

It wasn't examining him like a person.

It was studying him.

Like a puzzle.

Like something that shouldn't be here.

Lucian's breath hitched.

And then—

A slow, curling smile from the dragon.

"Fascinating."

The cavern shook.

Lucian's entire existence screamed in protest.

Then—

A pulse.

A wave of something vast and incomprehensible erupted from the dragon—not magic, not mana, but something more fundamental.

Raw existence.

Lucian reeled.

His knees buckled. His lungs seized.

The world twisted.

His name.

His identity.

His thoughts.

Who… was he?

For one horrifying moment—

Lucian wasn't sure he had ever been real.

His fingers twitched—

Or did they?

Did he even have a body anymore?

Then—

Air.

Lucian collapsed forward, gasping as sensation slammed back into him.

The moment his knees hit the ground, it felt like he had been spat back into reality.

His lungs burned, his vision swam, his muscles screamed.

Sweat clung to his skin, cold and damp.

His heart pounded in his chest, his breath coming in ragged gulps.

The dragon had stopped.

And somehow—

that terrified him even more.

Lucian staggered, trembling, trying to process what had just happened.

A slow exhale from the dragon.

Its golden eyes gleamed with something new.

Not just curiosity.

Not just amusement.

Understanding.

A knowing.

As if some great and terrible puzzle had finally clicked into place.

"I see."

A pause.

Then—

"So that's what you are."

Lucian shuddered.

The words weren't a question.

They were an answer.

Something deep in his soul burned at those words.

A name. A legacy. A history he had never known.

The weight of it lingered in the air—unspoken, yet undeniable.

Lucian swallowed hard, his throat dry, his voice hoarse.

"What… what did you just do?"
