Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Integration

The morning sun cast long shadows over Blackhaven's training ground, where the crisp air carried the unmistakable scent of fresh-cut grass. The team had gathered earlier than usual, their excitement palpable. Today marked the arrival of Samuel O'Connell, their new midfield signing—a move that had already sent ripples through the football world.

Daisuke stood near the touchline, arms crossed, watching as his players whispered among themselves. The chemistry within the squad had grown steadily over the past months, but a new player—especially one expected to be a key figure—could disrupt the balance.

Samuel's signing was a statement. But now came the real test—integrating him into the system.

A sleek, black SUV pulled up to the facility. As the doors swung open, Samuel stepped out, his sharp gaze sweeping across the training ground. He had the confidence of a rising star but none of the arrogance that often came with it. Dressed in a Blackhaven training kit, his every movement exuded quiet determination.

The first player to greet him was Lewis Carter. The team captain extended his hand, offering a firm handshake.

"Welcome to Blackhaven, mate," Lewis said. "Heard a lot about you. Hope you're ready to put in the work."

Samuel smiled. "That's the only way I know how to play."

A murmur of approval spread through the squad. Aaron Winters, the team's vice-captain, gave a nod, while Ryan Foster, the squad's no-nonsense defender, simply smirked.

Daisuke observed from a distance, satisfied. The chemistry wasn't forced—it was a good start.

Daisuke wasted no time. The team was divided into two sides for an 11v11 scrimmage, with Samuel starting in midfield alongside Lewis. From the opening whistle, Daisuke kept his eyes locked on his new signing.

Samuel's movement was sharp—his touch crisp. He wasn't the flashiest player on the pitch, but his decision-making was near perfect. He played the simple passes when needed, broke the lines when given space, and most importantly, tracked back relentlessly.

Then came the moment that truly solidified his place.

The opposing side launched a counterattack. Ryan played a long ball over the top, bypassing the midfield entirely. A young striker, Jordan West, sprinted forward, looking set to have a one-on-one with the keeper.

But out of nowhere, Samuel exploded into a dead sprint.

With perfect timing, he executed a last-ditch sliding tackle, cleanly stripping the ball away. Instead of stopping to admire his work, he got up instantly, playing a quick pass to Lewis, who launched a counter in the opposite direction.

The play ended with Aaron Winters scoring, and the entire team turned to Samuel with nods of approval. Even Ryan, who wasn't easily impressed, clapped him on the back.

Daisuke smiled. This kid belongs here.

Later that afternoon, the press conference was set up in the Blackhaven media room. The small venue was packed, journalists buzzing with questions. Daisuke and Samuel sat side by side, ready to face the media storm.

Reporter 1: "Samuel, why Blackhaven? You had offers from bigger clubs."

Samuel leaned toward the mic, his voice firm. "Because I believe in what Coach Takeda is building here. This isn't just a club—it's a project with ambition. I wanted to be part of something that values progress over prestige."

Daisuke nodded approvingly. Samuel's answer was calculated, but truthful.

Reporter 2: "Coach Takeda, how do you plan to use Samuel in your system?"

Daisuke smirked slightly. "Samuel brings tactical intelligence and a work ethic that fits perfectly with how we play. He'll play as a box-to-box midfielder, dictating transitions and supporting both ends of the pitch. But beyond his role, his mentality is exactly what this club needs."

The room erupted in flashes of cameras, more questions pouring in, but Daisuke knew one thing—Samuel was already proving to be more than just a signing.

He was a piece of the puzzle.

While the press conference aired live, Coach Martin Collins sat in his luxurious office, watching the broadcast with narrowed eyes. His rival had once again secured a rising talent—one he had intended to claim for himself.

"Tch… that bastard always finds a way," Collins muttered.

A smirk played on his lips, but beneath it was a burning desire to crush Blackhaven.

His assistant, standing nearby, cleared his throat. "Should we move forward with our new transfer target?"

Collins leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping against the desk.

"Yes," he said, eyes gleaming with undisguised intent. "And while we're at it… let's make sure Blackhaven regrets this signing."

A storm was brewing.

Daisuke, back in his office, scrolled through articles, social media reactions, and match reports. Most of the response to Samuel's arrival was positive, but he couldn't ignore the growing tension with his rival, Collins.

A message from Hana Sakamoto appeared on his phone.

Hana: "Nice signing. But be careful. Collins isn't the type to let things slide."

Daisuke exhaled through his nose. He already knew that.

But for now, he had bigger things to focus on.

His squad was shaping up. His tactics were evolving. And soon, the real battles would begin.
