The crime scene showed them the same thing all the others did. He was disorganized but remorseful, and he was gradually losing grip on his reality. Finnick and Avalyn continued to look around, coming to the realization that a night club was right next to the alley where their victim was found.
"She must have been standing near the club, waiting for any stranglers coming out that may be looking for a good time", Avalyn assumed. Finnick nodded his head in agreement. They looked around for almost an hour, trying to gather as much information from the scene as possible.
Avalyn looked at her watch, realizing it was already 10:15am, and it would take them twenty minutes to get to Black Industries. "Trey, we got to go. I have a meeting to attend", she yelled out to Falon to catch his attention.
Trey gave her a dirty look as he headed towards the SUV. Avalyn jumped into the driver's seat, since she knew how to get where they were going. "I don't know how I feel about you driving", Trey said skeptically, as he got into the passenger seat. "That's just too damn bad", Avalyn said, as she put the car in gear.
"Why do you even need to see him? Do you know him?", Trey asked. Finnick didn't get involved. He knew who Alexander Black really was, thanks to his close friendship with Avalyn. "It's personal, Falon", Avalyn retorted. Falon was not part of the team and neither was Carey when Avalyn and Hitch originally worked on the Treaty between species.
Avalyn wants Hitch to tell them how he sees fit. So, until then, Avalyn will keep her mouth shut about it. "Oh, that's such bullshit and you know it", Trey outraged. Avalyn ignored his outburst. He sounded as if he was a jealous lover and that bothered her more than anything.
When Avalyn pulled in front of Black Industries, she found a shady spot to park the SUV. "Stay put", she ordered, before jumping out of the vehicle. She removed her bullet proof vest and tossed it in the back seat with Finnick.
Avalyn's hands were sweaty and her heart beat irregular, as she headed to the top floor. She didn't understand why, though. She had worked with Keenan for quite a few years. He was a great man that she was sure taught his son the same. She had grown to admire Keenan as a father. He guided her in the right direction in life, and for that she feels forever grateful.
Avalyn exited the elevator on the top floor, immediately spotting a young blonde seated at a desk. "I'm Avalyn Grant. I have an 11 o'clock appointment", Avalyn spoke politely, when she approached the receptionist's desk.
A look of surprised crossed the young woman's face. "Okay, have a seat. Mr. Black will be with you shortly", she said. "Thank you", Avalyn said, with a nod. She took a seat along a dark blue wall. The open-view windows gave view of the entire city below.
Avalyn was too nervous to stand up and check it out. She felt her chest rumble as if she growled, yet no sound left her. She rubbed her chest, confusedly. A heavy aura weighed on Avalyn, anger. It was anger she felt. Followed by an overwhelming need to comfort the owner of the aura.
It was different to her because the last time she felt an aura of anger, she was thirteen years old, and it was her father's. But at the time, she felt the need to run, not comfort.
Alexander Black was not having the best of days. Rouge werewolves were becoming more and more of an issue for him. Just last night a pack on the south border was attacked. He has held three meetings this morning, one with the Alpha whose pack was attacked, and two with other neighboring Alphas, who fear they will be next.
He feels he has no choice but to follow his father's wishes and call the BAU. The Grant girl his father speaks so highly of, supposedly can help him fix this issue. At this point, he is willing to take all the help that he can get, because the Alpha who sits in front of him now is only pissing him off.
The man is too much of a coward to even lend a few of his warriors to band with other packs, and Alexander's own troops to handle the situation. "Get out of my office!!", Alexander bellowed, using his Alpha King Command to make the Alpha obey him. Alpha Vince whimpered in submission as he scurried out of the King's office.
Avalyn felt her chest constrict when she heard and felt the King's Command. She watched as a man in his late forties, rushed from a set of double doors to the right side of the blonde's desk. A scowl was etched into his features.
Alexander put his head in his hands, as he tried to calm his ragging beasts. "Sir, your eleven o'clock is here. A Miss Avalyn Grant", his assistant, Jessica said. Alexander's ears perked up. Did the moon goddess grace him? "Send her in", he ordered.
Jessica nodded with a frown on her face as she left the office. He didn't ask her who or why this lady wanted to see him. So, does he know her? Jessica wondered what kind of personal business they had together. "Mr. Black is ready for you", she said to Avalyn. Avalyn stood nervously and followed the receptionist to the King's office.
Alexander was overwhelmed with the scent of vanilla and jasmine, making his Lycan perk up. 'Mate', Shadow, Alexander's Lycan, said in his head. The smell only got stronger when Jessica walked in the office door, followed by a beautiful, petite, brunette girl.
When her eyes met his, his Lycan howled. Moon goddess be damned, he had been looking for his mate for almost a century, yet he was connected to her for the last six years and didn't even know it. Avalyn was shocked by the King's handsome features. His black hair accented his gray eyes, and strong jawline.
'Something is wrong with her wolf. I can sense her, but not speak to her', Shadow told Alexander. "You can leave now, Jessica. Thank you", Alexander said, dismissively. Jessica nodded before leaving the King's office and closing the door behind her.
"Your Highness", Avalyn bowed, she never forgot pack rules. "You don't have to do that. Please", Alexander said. "I assume you are here because of the rouge problem we have been having?", he asked her.
Avalyn tilted her head to the side, "Rouge problem?", she questioned, slowly shaking her head. Alexander furrowed his eyebrows. "Then, what has brought this meeting upon today? Not saying I am not grateful for it", he said, standing from his seat.
Avalyn was taken away by the height of him. He had to be at least 6'6", towering over Avalyn by 18 inches. "I am having troubles with a vampire. He just murdered someone else last night or early this morning", Avalyn explained.
Alexander looked taken aback. "I don't normally have issues with my vampires", he said, walking out from behind the desk to approach her. "I believe this one is unable to control their blood lust", Avalyn explained, watching his every move.
"Maybe, I should properly introduce myself. I am Alexander Black. It is nice to meet you, finally. I have heard an ear full about you", Alexander smirked, as he reached his hand out to shake hers. Avalyn blushed, instantly getting irritated with herself for not having better self-control.
Avalyn reached her hand out and took Alexander's hand. She felt sparks shoot up her arm, spreading warmth all throughout her body. A soft gasp left her lips. "It is nice to finally meet you as well. Your father has always spoken highly of you", she said softly.
Alexander smiled, "Please, have a seat. Would you like something to drink?", he asked. Avalyn smiled softly, "Water is fine. Thank you", she answered. Alexander walked over to a miniature fridge, while Avalyn took a seat on the chair across from his desk.
"You said that you are having a rouge problem?", Avalyn asked. "Yes. They have attacked three packs so far, burning everything that they could", he answered her. "So, we are dealing with two breaches of the treaty", Avalyn said, running her fingers through her long brunette hair.
"It gets worse", he uttered, setting a bottle of water down on the desk in front of her. "How?", Avalyn asked. "We have found a hunter's knife at each site. Totaling in five knives so far", he answered, leaning on the edge of the desk. Avalyn knew that this was bad.
Rouge attacks, a blood-raged vampire, and also hunter's knives? This was very bad, indeed. It seemed like everything that Avalyn, Keenan, and Hitch worked so hard for, was crumbling right in front of her face.
"I will help you, Avalyn. If you will help me", Alexander said. "Of course. It is my job. Honestly, you should've called me sooner", she said, rubbing her eyebrows. Alexander wasn't too keen on admitting his faults, but with his mate, it seemed easy.
"You are right. I just believed I could handle it", he admitted. "I assume you did not come to town alone, and that your team is here?", Alexander questioned. Avalyn nodded, "Correct, two of my team members are down stairs. The others are at the sheriff's office", she answered.
Alexander wanted to ask questions about her wolf and why she wasn't active. But he didn't feel like now was the right time. Though, his Lycan and Vampire beasts are both very impatient souls. 'We have waited a century to find our mate. We can wait a little longer. We just won't let her out of our sight', Alexander told his beasts. Both answering him with a growl of disapproval.
"Your team knows about us? Our species?", he asked her, sinking into the chair next to her. Avalyn rocked her head back and forth, and shrugged her shoulders. "Ehh, kind of?", she answered. Alexander grinned, "Would you like to elaborate?", he teased.
