Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: The destiny of an Amazon

In the faraway village of Ukpor, Anambra, nestled deep in the heart of Igbo land, Nigeria, there lived a people bound by tradition, history, and an unbreakable warrior spirit. Among them was a revered and secretive group known as the Amazons, an ancient cult of women trained in combat, strategy, and survival. Legends spoke of their unparalleled strength, their mastery of herbs that could heal deadly ailments, and their unyielding will in the face of war.

Every four years, the village held its most sacred event—the Amazon Tournament, a brutal and prestigious contest where only the strongest, fastest, and most cunning women earned the right to lead. The victor was crowned Amazon Queen, a leader destined to guide her sisters in battle and uphold their legacy.

For generations, the Amazon crown had passed through the bloodline of a powerful lineage, and Daniella, a young girl with fire in her heart, was its next heiress. But her path to greatness was met with resistance—from none other than her own mother.

A Mother's Past, A Daughter's Dream

"Daniella!"

The sharp call of her name pulled Daniella from her thoughts. She turned swiftly, her dark eyes locking onto her mother, Adanne, a woman of regal beauty and quiet strength. Adanne was once a warrior herself, a former Amazon Queen, but she had long since abandoned the ways of battle, choosing instead the path of peace and family.

Daniella, however, had different dreams. She wanted to be an Amazon, to prove herself in the tournament, to be like the great women before her.

"Why must you always run off to train?" Adanne scolded, hands on her hips. "Your place is here, helping me, not chasing old traditions."

Daniella sighed. This was an argument they had often. "Mama, you were once an Amazon. You fought, you won, you led. Why won't you let me do the same?"

A shadow crossed Adanne's face, but she did not answer immediately. Instead, she turned toward the open hut where Odogwu and Chibueze, Daniella's younger brothers, sat listening. She gave them a small smile before settling on a stool.

"Come," she beckoned, "it is time you hear the story of our bloodline."

Tales of Queens and Warriors

The flickering glow of the evening fire danced across Adanne's face as she spoke.

"Many years ago, before you were born, your grandmother stood where you now stand. She, too, dreamed of becoming Queen. She fought well, stronger than most, but in the final battle… she lost."

Daniella leaned in, captivated. She had never heard this part of the story before.

"But she did not leave empty-handed," Adanne continued. "She learned. She mastered new techniques, strategies, and skills. And when I, her daughter, entered the tournament, she trained me herself."

"You won," Odogwu whispered, eyes wide.

Adanne nodded. "Yes. I became Queen, and for years, I led the Amazons. But then… I left."

A heavy silence filled the hut.

"Why?" Chibueze asked.

Adanne hesitated, her gaze distant. "Because war was coming. Because power, when held too tightly, turns dangerous. Because… a queen's greatest enemy is never the outsider—it is the one closest to her."

Daniella's mind raced. She had never known this. "Who was your enemy?" she asked.

Adanne shook her head. "That is a story for another day. For now, you must understand why I am against your decision. The path of the Amazon is not just battle—it is sacrifice. Once you step into that world, there is no turning back."

But Daniella had already made up her mind.

The Call of Destiny

The days that followed were filled with tension. Daniella trained harder, pushing her body to the limits. Her best friend, Rose, trained alongside her, sharing the same dream.

"We will stand side by side in the tournament," Rose grinned.

"And we will win," Daniella added.

But their path would not be easy.

One evening, an old native doctor visited the village. He was a man of strange visions, known for his unclear prophecies. As he passed by Daniella, he stopped suddenly, his milky eyes narrowing.

"You," he murmured, pointing a bony finger.

Daniella stiffened.

"A warrior's blood runs through you," the man muttered, his voice thick with mystery. "But beware, child… the greatest battle is not with your enemies. It is with your own."

Then, without another word, he walked away.

Daniella frowned. She didn't understand his words, but something inside her felt uneasy.

Had she just received a warning?

Or had she just taken the first step toward her destiny?
