Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

The Truth Unraveled

I woke up the next morning with a dull ache in my chest. The kind that comes with realization—the understanding that no matter how hard you try to avoid it, some truths will always find their way to the surface. And once they do, there's no going back.

I didn't bother with breakfast. I didn't have the energy for it. Instead, I sat at the edge of my bed, staring at the wall as the events from the previous day replayed in my mind. Daniel had lied to me. He had been there that night. He had seen what happened and chose not to tell me. And in doing so, he had broken the one promise that had meant anything to me.

The silence in my room was suffocating, like the weight of everything that had happened was pressing down on me from every side. The betrayal from Olivia, the lies from Daniel, and the looming uncertainty of what was to come next—it was all too much.

I didn't want to feel sorry for myself, but I couldn't help it. I had trusted them. And in the end, I was left standing alone, piecing together the fragments of my broken life.

My phone buzzed on the bedside table, breaking me from my thoughts. I hesitated before reaching for it, half-expecting another message from Daniel. But it wasn't him. It was a number I didn't recognize.

"You think you know everything? You're just getting started."

I felt the blood drain from my face. Who was this? Who else was involved in this twisted game?

I knew then that I couldn't sit back any longer. I had to uncover the rest of the truth. Every hidden layer, every secret, every lie. It was the only way I could make sense of what had happened to me.

---

I didn't go to school that day. Instead, I found myself walking through the streets of town, my thoughts racing faster than my feet could carry me. The air was cold, and the sky was overcast, mirroring the dark cloud that seemed to hang over me.

I had one place left to go—the one person who might know more about what really happened that night.

Olivia.

The thought made my skin crawl. But I had no choice. She was the key to unlocking everything. I couldn't trust Daniel. And now, with the mystery message from an unknown source, I couldn't trust anyone else either.

I found her at a coffee shop, sitting alone at a corner table, her eyes hidden behind oversized sunglasses. She looked almost too calm, like nothing had happened, like the world hadn't just cracked open.

I took a deep breath and walked toward her, every step heavy with the weight of what I was about to do.

She didn't notice me at first, so I took the opportunity to stand there for a moment and gather my thoughts. I was tired of being afraid. Tired of living in the shadow of their lies. It was time to confront her.

"Olivia," I said, my voice steady despite the chaos inside me.

She glanced up, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Sarah. I wasn't expecting to see you here."

"You're going to tell me the truth," I said, my tone hard. "About everything. About that night. About what really happened."

Her eyes narrowed, her smile fading into something more guarded. "I don't know what you mean," she said, though there was a flicker of something in her eyes. Fear, maybe. Or guilt.

"Don't lie to me, Olivia. I know you were involved. And I know there's more to the story than you're letting on. I need to know what happened that night. What you and Jake and—" I stopped myself before I could say Daniel's name.

The flicker of guilt was gone now, replaced with something darker, colder. "You don't know what you're asking for," Olivia said quietly, her voice low. "Some things are better left buried."

"I don't care what's buried," I shot back. "I need the truth. Now."

She stared at me for a long moment, her fingers tapping nervously against the table. Finally, she sighed, her shoulders slumping as if the weight of it all had finally caught up with her. "Fine. You want the truth? Here it is. But you're not going to like it."

She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Jake and I had a plan. We always did. But when Daniel showed up that night, everything changed. He wasn't supposed to be there."

I swallowed hard, my heart hammering in my chest. "What does Daniel have to do with it?"

Her lips curled into a smirk, but it wasn't a happy one. "You really think he's the innocent, perfect boyfriend, don't you? He's not. He's just like the rest of us—he's hiding something. And if you're not careful, Sarah, you'll end up just like the rest of us, too."

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. "What are you talking about?"

Olivia stood up abruptly, pushing her chair back so hard it scraped against the floor. "You want the truth? Fine. But remember this: Once it's out, you can't put it back in. And if you keep digging, you'll regret it."

Before I could respond, she was gone, slipping out the door without another word.

I sat there for a long time, her warning echoing in my mind.

I didn't know what she meant. But I couldn't stop now.

I had to keep digging.
