Chapter 3 - The Dragon

Boom!

Before Xiao Yi could take more than a few steps, the ground beneath him trembled violently. Within the hazy white mist, the bloodstained giant spear hummed, and the shattered iron shield clanged. An overwhelming sense of oppression descended upon him, making even breathing difficult. It felt as though a massive boulder had landed on his back, weighing him down as he struggled forward for dozens of meters.

Roar!

A deafening soundwave reverberated through the corridor, sending a piercing ring through Xiao Yi's ears. His head spun, his vision blurred with golden stars flashing before his eyes. He collapsed to the ground as the soundwave continued for five or six breaths before finally subsiding. When he reopened his eyes, his face was filled with shock. What had he just heard? That was the sound of a dragon! It was distinctly different from a tiger's roar—he didn't even need to analyze it to know that the sound unmistakably belonged to a dragon.

Wait! A sudden thought jolted through Xiao Yi's mind as he recalled the recent strange occurrences. If time had truly reversed, then…

A Tyrannosaurus rex!

Xiao Yi gasped for air, a flicker of fear flashing through his eyes. However, he quickly gritted his teeth. No matter what, he had to see for himself. Time reversal? Traversing through time? None of this interested him in the slightest. His life may not have been perfect, but there were still many things tying him to his original world. A fate he could neither control nor foresee was not something he desired.

Following the path back, he soon arrived at the icy water pool he had seen earlier. The bloodstains on the ground remained, but ten meters ahead, a faintly glowing red barrier blocked the way. Enclosing an area of dozens of meters in diameter, the barrier sealed off a cavern entrance. And just beyond that entrance, a colossal shadow loomed, making Xiao Yi's breath hitch in his throat.

A Tyrannosaurus rex!

A behemoth from the late Cretaceous period, a monstrous predator now stood alive before his very eyes, completely shattering any lingering hopes he had. Because beyond that massive creature, there was no longer the swamp he had originally seen, but instead, an ancient, boundless forest, vast and desolate.

Roar!

The resounding dragon roar rang out again, and at such close proximity, it struck Xiao Yi like a tidal wave. His head reeled, but this time, he forced himself to endure it. He clenched his teeth so hard that thin streaks of blood trickled from the corners of his mouth. He was filled with resentment—trapped in this world, severed from his family, exiled beyond hope of reunion. And this world… this primitive, brutal world, where dinosaurs roamed and the environment was merciless, how long could he even survive? The odds were grim.

In the face of inevitable death, Xiao Yi's last shred of fear vanished. If death was his fate, why fear it? It would come all the same, sooner or later. At this moment, he carefully examined the Tyrannosaurus rex beyond the crimson barrier. Strangely, despite the barrier's red hue, the outside world remained unobscured.

The creature was enormous—fifteen or sixteen meters tall—with a body covered in dense, azure dragon scales. Its massive dragon-like head bore no horns, and its pale golden eyes gleamed coldly. Towering hind legs, as thick as three men embracing each other, supported its body. Its long, ten-meter tail was adorned with large golden scales, each as big as a human head, radiating a faint glow.

Xiao Yi was shaken to his core. The scene before him defied all logic. He could vaguely see the air around the Tyrannosaurus rex distorting, and as its tail moved ever so slightly, a fierce gust of wind erupted. Several massive ancient trees, thick enough to require multiple men to encircle them, were uprooted and sent flying. The primeval forest roared with howling winds, debris spiraling into the air in a chaotic dance.

The Tyrannosaurus rex let out a thunderous roar that shook the heavens. Overhead, a golden sun blazed fiercely. Yet, neither the visible soundwaves nor the violent airborne debris could penetrate the faint crimson barrier. Merely ten meters from the beast, Xiao Yi stood unharmed, though the shock in his heart was immeasurable.

Was this mythology? Such sheer destruction… it was akin to a legendary beast, a force almost divine. What kind of world had he been transported into? Xiao Yi's heart sank.

Suddenly, a sharp, piercing sword cry rang out. The sound was clear and powerful, reminiscent of the fleeting yet forceful resonance produced by a martial artist wielding a sword—but this one carried on ceaselessly, surging like a tidal wave. Incredibly, it rivaled the dragon's roar in intensity.

Then, Xiao Yi saw it.

A golden sword light descended from the heavens. Its brilliance was as dazzling as the midday sun, its energy vast and boundless. With a single strike, it seemed to sever the sky from the earth. The golden sword aura slashed down toward the Tyrannosaurus rex with immense force. Space rippled, the crimson barrier trembled, and Xiao Yi was abruptly pushed back several meters by an invisible force. His heart pounded wildly—this felt like a dream, yet it was too real to be one.

The golden sword aura struck down, distorting the very fabric of space. The Tyrannosaurus rex sensed the danger and let out a furious roar. Its colossal, golden-scaled tail swung forth like a divine pillar, stirring up a hurricane. The ground beneath split open, forming a chasm dozens of meters wide, stretching out for miles without ceasing.

Clang!

Sword aura met dragon tail, producing a thunderous metallic clash. Sparks the size of human heads erupted, burning like molten lava and scorching the ground where they landed.

Roar!

The Tyrannosaurus rex bellowed, its golden tail radiating an intense brilliance. The golden sword aura shattered instantly, and the dragon tail swept across the sky, sending a fan-shaped wave of golden energy slicing through the air as if cleaving the world apart.

"As expected of the Wild Dragon! Sunblade Sword King, let's slay the dragon together!"

Above, a massive azure sigil suddenly appeared, spanning miles like a floating mountain. Its surface was engraved with the landscapes of rivers, mountains, forests, and lakes. Majestic and imposing, it descended, shattering the golden energy wave and colliding head-on with the Tyrannosaurus rex's tail.

Crack!

The ground fractured. Hundreds of ancient trees were reduced to splinters, and the earth sank by several feet. Waves of force rippled outward, shaking everything in sight. The crimson barrier trembled violently. Xiao Yi stood frozen in place, unable to believe his eyes. What had he just witnessed? What had he just heard?

Voices—human voices! He had seen sword light, an enormous sigil, and most importantly… four people, descending from the heavens.

Did humans exist in the Mesozoic Era? Xiao Yi murmured in his heart. If this was even earlier, in the Paleozoic Era, then it would be even more absurd. Mythology had nothing on this. The sight of these four figures evoked a single word in his mind.

Immortals!

Flying through the skies, controlling mountains, defying the natural order—these four figures embodied the very essence of immortality. Otherwise, how could he explain their presence? They descended without any support, walking through the void itself. One of them even rode a celestial steed—pure white, with blazing red hooves, six pairs of snow-white wings flapping as gusts of wind howled around it.

Who were these four? And what exactly was a Wild Dragon?

Xiao Yi's mind swirled with endless questions as he watched the scene unfold before him, knowing his life was now entangled in a world beyond comprehension.
