Chapter 14 – The War Begins
The city lights blurred past as Ibrahim and Gordon sped through Gotham's backstreets, the weight of the night settling on them. The courthouse was in chaos, the legal battle had turned into a war, and now the Talons had made their move.
Gordon pressed his earpiece. "We need units at the courthouse now! Secure the area and detain any masked assailants!"
A garbled response came through. "Commissioner, we—static—under attack! The Talons are everywhere!"
Gordon's face darkened. "Damn it."
Ibrahim remained calm, his system analyzing the situation.
[City-wide surge in criminal activity detected. Multiple key figures within law enforcement neutralized. The Court is retaliating.]
The Court of Owls wasn't just coming for him. They were unleashing chaos across Gotham.
Gordon tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "They're trying to overwhelm us. If every officer is too busy fighting off assassins, no one's left to protect the courts, the judges, or the evidence you gathered."
Ibrahim's system flashed a new alert.
[Incoming Call – Unknown Number]
He accepted it.
A distorted voice filled the car. "You should've stopped, Al-Farooq. You should've walked away."
Ibrahim smirked. "Funny. I was about to tell you the same thing."
A pause. Then, a low chuckle. "You're clever. But you're still just a man. And men bleed."
The call cut off.
Gordon looked at him. "Who was that?"
Ibrahim exhaled. "Someone who just realized I won't back down."
The city was burning. The law was under siege.
But the Court of Owls had made one fatal mistake.
They thought he was playing their game.
