In 1980, that bloody year that witnessed a brutal war between the Greens and the Reds. Many were killed in horrific ways, all because of the leaders' greed for control over the land of Wadien. But the intervention of humans, who also coveted that land, made things worse. Humans waged war under the pretext of bringing peace, but the result was catastrophic: the complete annihilation of the Greens and the Reds, and the humans' takeover of Wadien. They tried to erase all traces of those races, as if they had never existed.
Now, in 2010, inside a small shack far from the city, surrounded by the wreckage of tanks and planes, live the last two survivors of the Greens and the Reds: Kyle Drazor of the Reds, and Syla Alvena of the Greens. Kyle, a hot-tempered young man who struggles to control his emotions, lives with Syla, a rational and calm girl who never acts impulsively. The two have lived in this shack for thirty years, after their caretaker saved them from the humans and raised them until his death.
One day, Kyle was sitting on a high hill, looking out at the distant valley where the lights of the advanced city glittered. He glanced at the small shack he called home, then back at the city, and muttered to himself:
"What did we do to deserve all this?"
Before he could finish his thought, he heard a loud noise coming from afar. He couldn't pinpoint the source, but it sounded like cars. He tried to see what was approaching, and suddenly, black vehicles were heading toward the shack. The cars were closer to him than to the shack itself. He tried to run to save Syla or hide her, but the vehicles arrived before he could do anything. He reached for his gun, only to remember he had left it in the shack. He stood there, torn: should he risk his life to save Syla, or run to save himself? As usual, he didn't think too much and dashed toward the shack. But suddenly, someone grabbed him from behind and covered his mouth.
The black military vehicles surrounded the shack. Masked soldiers in black uniforms and advanced weapons stepped out. On their vehicles and uniforms, the emblem of the red butterfly was clearly visible. The man holding Kyle looked at him and said in a calm but firm voice:
"If you want to live and save your sister, don't move or make a sound."
Kyle, trembling with fear and anger, whispered in a muffled voice:
"Who are you? What do you want from me? Don't hurt me, you bastard!"
The man replied calmly:
"I'll try to save your life and your sister's, but you need to be patient."
The soldiers entered the shack and dragged Syla out by force. As the officers set fire to the shack and its surroundings, Kyle's tears began to fall. He looked at the man and said in a broken voice:
"Why are they doing this to us?"
The man replied:
"They're trying to erase all evidence of your existence. Let's just hope your sister doesn't tell them about you."
Kyle, feeling utterly helpless, asked in a sorrowful voice:
"Where are they taking her?"
The man shook his head and said:
"I don't know... I wish I did."
Kyle, feeling fire burn in his chest, tried to break free from the man's grip, but the man held him tightly and said:
"If you move now, you'll be dead before you take a single step."
Kyle watched as the soldiers disappeared into the darkness with Syla. Then he turned to the man and asked in a shaky voice:
"Now... what do we do?"
The man looked at him with enigmatic eyes and said:
"We'll survive... I'll try to protect you."
But Kyle, furious and desperate, punched the man in the face and grabbed the gun he was carrying, then shouted:
"Who the hell are you? How can I trust you?!"
The man replied calmly, lighting a cigarette:
"It seems you don't remember me, do you?"
Kyle looked at him in confusion and said:
"Who are you? What do you want from me?"
The man took a drag from his cigarette and said:
"I'm the one who built this shack and protected you and your family. I'm the one who saved your father multiple times when he went to the city to get food and supplies. I'm the one who kept him out of trouble and promised him I'd protect you. Now, will you lower the gun? Or rather, my gun that you stole from me?"
Kyle was at a loss for words. He dropped the gun to the ground and sat down, tears filling his eyes. The man said:
"My name's Johnny, by the way. I know you've been calling me 'the man' in your head."
Kyle didn't respond. All he could think about was how to save Syla and take revenge on those who took her.
