Chapter 1 - Prologue

At the Cliff of Death, a place from which no one has ever emerged alive after jumping.

A group of renowned figures from the Martial Continent surrounded a young man with black hair, his clothes tattered, and blood streaming from multiple wounds.

Even in this state, the young man maintained a calm gaze. His blood-red pupils were indifferent.

"Great Demon! Hand over the Immortal Mansion! Your death will be more peaceful! Why struggle so much? Sooner or later, it will be in our hands."

Hearing these words from a man wielding a sword, Li Wuxie, the Great Demon, merely smiled—his smile was entirely mocking.

"Sword Saint, if you want my treasure, why didn't you come alone? Why bring so many people? This makes this little figure feel important, you know? Or are you afraid? Have the beatings left you traumatized? Poor thing... should I call the elders?"

Upon hearing this, the young man at the front, holding his sword with an imposing stance, turned red. His veins bulged in rage.

"Curse you!" he shouted, drawing his sword and preparing to attack, but was stopped by a middle-aged man dressed as a scholar.

"He's provoking you. The moment you approach him, you're dead. You are nothing compared to the Great Demon. In this continent, no genius can compare to him..." the Scholar said calmly before sighing. "What a pity... such a person refusing to follow the orthodox path. Why choose the demonic path? Is it worth it?" He looked at Li Wuxie.

Who, seemingly understanding his thoughts, widened his smile even further.

"They say you are the wisest person of this generation from Confucianism. So, Scholar Wei, I want to ask you a question: who is more hypocritical? You, who pretend to be good people but commit horrifying acts?" Li Wuxie pointed his finger at the Sword Saint.

"Like this coward! Who raped countless innocent girls and killed many people to obtain treasures... How is he any different from a demon? Even I, who am called the Great Demon, haven't gone that far. That's why, in my eyes, all of you are disgusting hypocrites pretending to be righteous."

"Shut up!" the Sword Saint shouted, looking around at everyone.

"There's no point in talking to this demon any longer! Kill him! He's spouting nonsense to turn us against each other and make us fight!"

The surrounding figures—the strongest in the Martial Continent—merely closed their ears and pretended they had never heard those words. Even though they knew the Great Demon spoke the truth.

"Hahaha!"

Li Wuxie laughed like a madman and looked up at the sky.

"See? This is the nature of righteous people! For small benefits, they turn their backs! I regret nothing I have done! At least I admit I am a demon! But what about you? You bunch of hypocrites!" He spoke these last words filled with hatred.

Scholar Wei cast a glance at those around him but said nothing more. He knew they were hypocrites... But what human isn't when benefits are involved? If there is a culprit, let them blame the world, for it is a place where the strong devour the weak.

"Enough talk! Today, on this cliff, we announce to the world! The Great Demon, who caused countless chaos across the continent, will be executed!"

"As long as we, righteous humans, are here, no demon shall harm our continent!"

These voices echoed throughout the continent via communication formations.

The Cliff of Death, located in the Forbidden Lands, was a devastated region of the Martial Continent.

Li Wuxie kept laughing, his laughter reverberating through the cliff. Beneath him, a pool of blood formed due to his wounds, and his skin was pale.

But he didn't care. Stopping his laughter, he looked at the gathered men with a mocking gaze.

"You are right. I will fall here! But not because of you, you hypocrites!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he used the ground as leverage and launched himself backward.

This startled the righteous leaders, who reacted immediately.

"He's thinking of jumping off the cliff! Stop him!" someone shouted.

The Sword Saint pulled a Red Lasso from his storage ring and threw it toward the Great Demon's neck.

Li Wuxie, who was already ten centimeters from the edge of the cliff, saw the red line coming toward him. But instead of panicking, he smiled.

Just as the line was about to reach him, he moved his hand and grabbed it firmly.

Burning his own cultivation to momentarily elevate it to the peak, he looked at the Sword Saint, who held the other end of the lasso—and pulled with force.

It happened so quickly that no one had time to react. All they saw was the Sword Saint being yanked like a yo-yo at absurd speed.

"Stop him!" Scholar Wei shouted in panic. If the Sword Saint died there, everything would be in vain! He was the primary contributor to this hunt!

"Great Demon! Enough!"

An old voice echoed from the sky, making everyone look up.

"So it's true... the Sword Saint comes from an ancient family."

This shocked countless people. For those already at the pinnacle of power in the continent, something capable of surprising them was no small matter.

Li Wuxie, on the other hand, felt the crushing aura of the voice but did not hesitate.

He had grown up amidst massacres and had been on the brink of death countless times. How could this stop him?

Gathering all the energy of the thousands of stars from the third level of the Star Sea, he concentrated everything into his fist. Demonic energy engulfed him, turning him completely black.

"Black Dragon Fist!"

A massive black dragon shot out from his fist, hurtling toward the Sword Saint, who trembled in fear.

He had never expected this turn of events—especially now, with his ancestor present, and the Great Demon still daring to face him.

But his reaction was still quick. When he saw the black dragon approaching, he activated his protective treasures.

What he did not expect, however, was that after launching the attack, Li Wuxie would suddenly appear before him and strike directly at his heart.

"Idiot! That was a distraction!"

Li Wuxie laughed. He had never expected to kill the Sword Saint with just the Black Dragon Fist. His true goal was to force him to activate his treasures.

Taking advantage of this opening, he used Shadow Steps and appeared in front of him, aiming directly at his heart.

His hand pierced through the Sword Saint's chest, and he hurled him backward.

Everyone was paralyzed by what they had just witnessed.

In Li Wuxie's hand, a still-beating heart pulsed.

"Hahaha!"

He laughed loudly, enjoying the shock of everyone around him. Then, pushing off with his feet, he launched himself into the void.

Plummeting through the air.

"GREAT DEMON!"

A furious roar echoed across the continent, filled with rage.

High in the sky, an old man had a devastated expression. His eyes were red as he looked at the figure disappearing into the abyss.

In his hands, he held a corpse with a hole in its heart—the eyes still wide open in shock.

The old man wanted to chase the Great Demon to the ends of the earth, but he gave up.

"Young Master... I will save you! Your soul has not yet dissipated!" Saying this, he vanished.

On that day, in the Year 302 of the Martial Calendar, two great geniuses fell—one of the Demonic Path and one of the Righteous Path.
