Chapter ten
Blaze woke up early, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Today was the day of the trial, and he was determined to prove himself.
He went through his morning routine, his mind focused on the task ahead. He waited for Lucas and Nephis, who were also participating in the trial, and the three of them set off towards the city hall.
The city hall was an imposing structure, with towering spires and grand architecture. The building was bustling with activity, as people from all over the city had gathered to participate in or watch the trial.
As they entered the hall, Blaze was struck by the sheer number of participants. There were over a hundred people, all eager to prove their skills and earn a spot at the Magic Knight school.
Blaze's eyes scanned the room, taking in the various groups and individuals. That's when he saw them - a group of five people, led by a tall, confident-looking boy with piercing blue eyes.
"Who's that?" Blaze asked Lucas, nodding towards the group.
"That's Micah and his crew," Lucas replied, his voice low. "Micah's considered one of the strongest teenagers in the city, after me, of course."
Blaze raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What's his story?"
Lucas leaned in, a hint of a smile on his face. "Micah's an elemental invitus, and he's got some serious skills. We've sparred before, and it was a close match. But in the end, my beast invitus abilities gave me the edge I needed to win."
Blaze nodded, impressed. "I see. So, Micah's not someone to underestimate."
Lucas nodded in agreement. "Definitely not. And from the look on his face, I'd say he's not too happy to see us."
Micah's eyes narrowed as he stared at Blaze, his gaze lingering on him with a mixture of curiosity and contempt.
"You're the one who got thrashed by Lucas, aren't you?" Micah sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "I can sense that you don't have any mystic essence. You're a Zero, a waste of space."
Blaze's face burned with anger, but he kept his cool. He knew that he had to prove himself, and this was his chance.
The mayor's elder brother, a wise-looking old man with a long white beard, stepped forward, a warm smile on his face.
"Welcome, young participants, to the first trial of the Magic Knight school selection process. Today, we will be testing your magical abilities, and only those who demonstrate sufficient power will be allowed to proceed."
The old man gestured to a large, complex-looking machine in the center of the room.
"This is the attack measuring machine. Each of you will take turns using your most powerful spell on the machine, and the results will be displayed on the screen above."
The machine was a large, cylindrical device with a series of intricate mechanisms and glowing blue lines. It looked like something out of a fantasy novel.
The participants were to get a score of 20 or higher, those unable to get 20 will be disqualified.
The trial began, and one by one, the participants took their turns using their spells on the machine. Some did well, while others failed miserably.
When it was Micah's group's turn, they all performed exceptionally well. One of them, a messy silver-haired boy with a name widely contrast to his appearance Gold, caught Blaze's attention. He used a powerful earth spell called Boulder Toss, and his score came out to be an impressive 60.
Micah himself scored an impressive 75, using a strong wind attack.
Blaze watched, his eyes wide with wonder, as the trial continued. Finally, it was Nephis' turn.
Blaze looked on with curiosity, expecting her to do nicely. But to his surprise, she scored a respectable 40.
Blaze's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions. Why had Nephis held back? Was she hiding her true power?
When it was Lucas' turn, he performed one of his beast spells, the Beast lunge. Blaze's eyes widened as he watched the attack, remembering the time Lucas had used it on him. He had been powerless to defend himself against the attack, and he knew that it was incredibly strong.
The attack connected, and the reading came out to be 72. Blaze was impressed, but he wasn't surprised. He knew that Lucas was strong, and the Beast lunge was one of his most powerful spells.
Micah looked at Lucas with a smug expression, but Lucas just shrugged.
Finally, it was Blaze's turn. He walked forward, his heart pounding in his chest, as the crowd began to jeer and insult him.
"Hey, Zero! You're going to fail miserably!" someone shouted.
"Yeah, get out of here! You're wasting our time!" another person chimed in.
Blaze ignored the insults, his eyes fixed on the machine. He took a deep breath, focused his energy, and launch forward at the machine .
Gathering his energy he shouted Astral throwing out his fist which pulsate with power and the machine whirred to life.
Everybody wait patiently for the zero results and even blaze with his heart thumping louder look up at the machine knowing full well his fate depends on the results which the machine will display.
There are various thought in is mind would he pass?, will he get a good score? and so on .
The screen flickered and a number was displayed for all to see.
