Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 – The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

tralis City – Blood on the Streets

Kai stood amidst the aftermath of battle.

The bodies of two assassins lay motionless, their dark combat gear still soaked in their own blood. The other two had managed to escape into the night before he could finish them.

His body throbbed with power.

His breath came out ragged, but not from exhaustion—from something deeper.

Wrath was still coursing through him, a lingering, boiling heat that demanded more.

More battle. More pain. More destruction.

But then—his wounds sealed themselves.

His skin stitched back together, his torn muscles knit themselves whole.

The regeneration he had devoured from the slime had finally kicked in.

Kai blinked, watching as the gash in his shoulder slowly closed.

His breathing steadied. The dizziness faded.

Then, the system's voice echoed in his mind.

[Regenerative Flesh Activated.]

(Healing speed increased. Non-lethal wounds will recover within minutes.)

Kai clenched his fists, flexing his fingers.

Even now, my body is adapting.

It wasn't instant, like the Abyssal absorption. But it was fast enough to make a difference.

And right now, that difference was the only thing keeping him alive.

The Weight of an Assassin's Blade

Kai knelt beside one of the fallen assassins.

Their face was covered by a tactical mask, their clothing reinforced with light armor. No insignias, no identifying markers.

Who the hell sent them after me?

The world had plenty of criminals, rogue factions, and warlords, but he wasn't important enough to be targeted.

At least, not yet.

Had someone seen what he did during the Black Eclipse Incident?

Or worse—was it because of his Sinbound abilities?

Kai exhaled sharply.

Standing here was dangerous. The longer he remained, the higher the chance that Hunters or city guards would arrive—and he had no intention of explaining two dead assassins.

I need to leave. Now.

The Escape – Leaving Astralis for Good

Kai slipped into the shadows of the city, moving quickly, but not carelessly.

Even in the dead of night, Astralis was never truly asleep. The streets had patrols, surveillance drones, and civilian witnesses.

He took the lesser-used paths—through abandoned alleys, across rooftops, avoiding the main roads.

As he ran, his mind worked through the possibilities.

Who had the resources to send trained assassins after him?

It wasn't the Hunters. They had no reason to kill him.

It wasn't common criminals. Their tactics had been too precise, too coordinated.

That left one possibility.

Someone knows about me. About what I can do.

And that meant…

I'm being watched.

The Decision to Move Forward

By the time Kai reached his apartment, he had already made up his mind.

He couldn't stay in Astralis.

Not anymore.

The city had been his home for years, but now? It was a cage. A place where he would constantly be watched, where his every move could be tracked.

If he wanted to survive, if he wanted to grow stronger, then he had to leave immediately.

His target remained the same—the ruins.

If there were answers about human abilities, about his powers, about the Sins… they would be there.

Kai packed only the essentials.

His Devourer Blade, now resting in its sheath at his side.

A set of combat gear—light armor under a travel cloak.

A few days' worth of rations and supplies.

And most importantly—his resolve.

He took one last look at his apartment.

The life he had known here… was over.

From this point on, he wasn't just another powerless student.

He was a warrior. A hunter. A Sinbound.

Kai stepped out into the night, disappearing into the darkness.

The journey to Ebonreach had begun.
