Mum is in the kitchen cooking dinner for the family when she sees the light of Dad's car.
"Billy... Ellie, your dad is back. Go welcome him, alright?"
Billy, as well as Ellie, responded.
"Yes, Mum."
As they rushed out to welcome their dad, he greeted them warmly.
"Hello, children. How was school today?"
He carried Ellie in his arms while holding Billy as they walked into the house.
Ellie said, "Dad, Billy got into a fight in school today."
With a disappointed face, he warned Billy, "What?! Billy, how many times have I told you not to get into trouble?"
Billy, with a gloomy face, replied, "But he started it first."
"It doesn't matter, son. Be a better man and walk away. Haven't I told you that before?"
Billy replied with a sad face, "Yes, Dad. I'm sorry, Dad."
As his dad put down Ellie and hugged Billy, he then asked silently, "Did you win?"
Billy responded with a smirk, "Yes, I did."
"That's my boy! Okay, come on, I got you something."
He reached into his bag, brought out candies, and gave them to Billy, telling him to share with his sister.
Then his wife approached him and kissed him, saying, "Honey, you're really spoiling these children. You want them to love you more than me, right?"
As he smiled, hugging and kissing his wife passionately, he replied, "Of course not, sweetheart. I'm their father, right?"
"They are growing so fast. Now Billy is eight years old, and Ellie is four, right?"
"Yeah, they are."
As they continued their romance, he then said, "I have missed you, sweetie."
She replied in a low tone with a seductive smile, "Shut up. You were only out this morning. Have a seat, let me serve you your meal... Then maybe we will have some alone time once the kids are asleep, okay?"
He smiled back and replied, "Sure, I would love that."
As he sat on the couch, waiting for his meal, Billy and Ellie ran to meet him in the sitting room.
"Daddy! Daddy! Billy refused to give me candy!"
"Billy, I told you it was for both of you."
Billy then replied, "I know, Dad, and I already gave her hers."
Dad turned to Ellie, "Is that so?"
Ellie replied with a sad look on her face, "Well, yeah, but I want some more."
"But you already had yours, right? Okay, don't worry, I will get some more for you tomorrow, okay?"
Ellie replied, still not satisfied, "Okay... but can Billy still give me some more?"
Before the discussion was over, Mum stepped in with Dad's meal and said, "Okay, enough candy for today... Billy, hand it over. I will keep it for later."
Billy groaned as he handed over the candy to his mum, then turned back to his dad.
Dad then said, "Don't worry, kids. Mum is just making sure you stay healthy. Too much candy isn't good for you, okay?"
They both hugged their parents before going to bed.
Mum then sat beside her husband with a smile on her face.
"I never imagined I would be a mother."
"What do you mean by that? You're the best mother these kids could ever ask for."
He grabbed her by the waist and kissed her on her forehead.
She then left him in the sitting room, telling him to be quick with his meal and join her inside.
With excitement, he hurried through his meal and rushed into the bedroom to have some pleasant time with his wife.
A few hours later, when everyone had slept, in the middle of the night—
Sounds of explosions, screams, and gunshots echoed from all around the neighborhood.
Dad woke up, wondering what was going on, then woke Mum, telling her to check on the kids as he picked up a gun from underneath his bed and went outside the house.
Mum rushed to Billy and Ellie's room and woke them up.
"Billy! Ellie! Wake up, wake up!"
Billy, with his sleepy eyes, asked, "Mum, what's the problem? Where's Dad?"
"Be quiet. Don't worry, Dad will be back. Just be quiet."
As the shooting and explosions continued, Mum moved closer to the door, hoping to see her husband but couldn't find him.
She started getting worried as time passed without his return.
Ellie then asked, "Mum, where is Dad?"
With an anxious look on her face, she replied, "Don't worry, sweetie. Dad will be back, okay?"
After a long wait, Dad finally walked in, bleeding from his arm, and fell to the floor.
His wife panicked and asked, "What is going on?! What is happening in the neighborhood?! What is wrong?! Have you been shot?! By who?!"
He grabbed his wife by the arms and said, "Please leave. Take the kids with you and leave. We are under attack."
"What do you mean by that?! I can't leave you here!"
She grabbed the gun and then told Billy, "Billy, it's going to be okay. Just take your sister in, alright? And don't come out till I tell you to, okay?"
Billy and Ellie started crying, and Billy asked, "Mum, what happened to Dad? Why is he covered in wounds all over?"
Dad responded, "It's okay, son. I just fell. Take your sister in, okay? Mum and I will take care of things."
Soon after, footsteps began to approach the house.
Mum pointed the gun at the door and whispered to Billy, "Go in now. I will pick you up later."
As Dad crawled his way to the couch area, he held his wife's shoulder and whispered, "Just keep calm, honey. We're gonna be alright."
Then, the door was kicked in by a strange man.
Mum shot the man who knocked down the door, killing him. Billy and Ellie, in the room, were frightened by the gunshots.
Soon after, more shots were fired from outside the house as two other men walked in while Mum and Dad went into hiding.
Mum then realized she had been shot in the left side of her tummy as she bled out.
Dad grabbed the gun, about to shoot, but was knocked out by one of the men and shot.
Mum screamed before she was shot as well.
A leader with a scar on his face and a tattoo on his neck walked in, saw the lifeless bodies of both parents, and asked, "Are there any others alive?"
One of the men responded, "No, sir."
"Search the house. They wouldn't have stayed to protect nothing. Maybe someone is still here."
Billy, still in the room with Ellie, caught a glimpse of what had happened to his parents.
He started shedding tears while trying to keep silent, stopping Ellie from witnessing it.
The search began.
Soon after, Billy and Ellie were found. One of the men pointed a gun at them, but another stopped him.
"Hey, wait. Let's ask the boss what we do with them. They're just kids."
The boss arrived, exhaled, and smirked.
"They'll be of good use to us. Kids are good business these days."
Billy and Ellie were taken away, their faces covered. Though Billy could still see through the cloth, he caught a final glimpse of his parents' lifeless bodies.
As he silently shed tears, Ellie asked, "Are Mum and Dad going to come back and take us home?"
Billy, hiding his pain, replied, "Ellie, don't worry. We'll be back home soon."
