Chapter 1 - THE HOUSE OF NIGHTMARE

CHAPTER: 1

I woke up in a dark room, my head spinning, the faint smell of rust and moldy water made me nauseous. Desperately trying to pull myself together and figure out where I was, I could hardly remember anything, all I could recall was a gate behind extremely tall grass…and a black figure.

 …

It was a sunny afternoon and I had just bought a drone for Stephen, my brother, for his 10th birthday. I could see the excitement on his face as we assembled it and flew it around the neighborhood. Few minutes flew by and Stephen called out to me, he motioned towards the tablet which displayed all the drone could see. As I looked at what was being shown to me, I too was in awe, it was a black old building that looked rather abandoned by its owner, whoever that could be.

As Stephen drove the drone round the house, I could see

the holes through the roof, the broken doors and windows that looked like the smallest breeze could pull them from their hinges, it all looked to creepy. Stephen moved the drone to the main entrance, the gate, with a perfect front view of the building, I could clearly see the whole yard. Two things seemed oddly strange to me; the fact that the grass were very over grown and from the looks of it, up to knee length. Well looking from the state of the house it would have been a lot more suspicious if the grass were short and well kept.

The second thing is the entrance door to the house, I had no logical explanation for this. The state of the entrance door was not in any way similar to that of the entire house, the house looked like it has been deserted for more than 20 years, while the door…the door look brand new, like it was replaced yesterday, no scratch, dents, marks, nothing, nothing had touched that door.

While I was still trying to understand why and how the door was so brand new, Stephen called out to me in a shaky tone "S…s…Sam" he said, "I know Stephen, I see it too, it's so strange it's creepy" I said while shaking my body from the chills as I got up to leave," take your drone someplace else, stop wondering around that creepy building" I said, as I reached for a glass of water on the table, "so…so your telling me that you…you also see the dark figure…standing by the house..." he said, griping the controllers tight in his sweaty palms not taking his eyes off the screen while standing still like a frozen pole. I

paused, then looked over at Stephen to see that he was

completely scared, but, he couldn't do anything other than shaking on the spot. I quickly dropped my cup and rushed towards him, I bent down and tried to snap him out of whatever trance he was in, as I successfully managed to pull his attention away from the screen, he looked at me with painful looking red eyes and said "it…it was looking at me", as soon as he said those words, tears began to gush out of his eyes.

I knelt there with Stephen's face in my hands, in shock of what was happening, then curiosity got the better of me and I switched my gaze from Stephen's face to the tablet, I scanned the house real closely, just to see what could've been the cause of his current state. Before I could give up and ask Stephen for the position of whatever he saw, something caught my eyes seconds before I averted my gaze. I turned my head quickly, back to the screen, not taking my eyes off the position of whatever caught my eye, I looked closely at the front walls of the house, a bit before the edge of the house, I could see a faintly dark humans like figure, standing quietly and still, I could tell it was just staring at the drone, so I couldn't understand why Stephen would say it was staring at him, and just as I looked at it again, an overwhelming feeling of millions of piercing gazes peering into my soul sent a lightning shock down my spine, paralyzing me, it felt as if someone or...something was watching me very closely. I could feel my heart beat fast and the cold sweat slid down mymy face, and the more I looked at it the more my eyes hurt, I could feel my eyes burning like I had been staring at the sun without blinking for hours. "…ouch…" Stephen said softly, I snapped back to reality and just then as I saw the pitiful expression on his face, I realized I had been squeezing his small arms just like he did with the controller earlier, I quickly let go of his small arms and took the controller away from him and placed it on the ground, "it's okay... it's okay… " I found myself repeating those words continuously with tears rushing out of my eyes uncontrollably as I took him in my arms and laid him on the couch.

I woke up to find Stephen sound asleep, I slowly got up and headed towards the kitchen to get some water, my head was hurting pretty badly so I took some pain relievers from the medicine cabinet. I looked out the glass door and realized the sun was setting, I noticed Stephen's controller to his drone which was still on the porch outside. I went out to get it, but, then I began looking for the drone, I couldn't find it anywhere, I then decided to use the controller to fly it back up, I looked at the screen and noticed it was still on, but, from the look of it, the drone seems to have fallen into a bush or a tall grass field…tall…grass. It all came flooding back to me, I remembered it all, every last detail. I felt sick in my stomach, I felt like throwing up, my knees were weak that I could barely stand up straight, the suffocating feeling of being watched by millions of eyes still lingered and still made my body shiver in fear. I managed to find some strength to move the controller, but, it still won't budge. I finally gave up trying and decided to look for it in the morning, because there was no way I was going to look for a drone in a yard full of grass that reaches my knee, in the cold night, no way. I took Stephen to his room and kissed him goodnight then headed for my room. I laid my head down and tried as much as possible to forget about the horrific site I had seen. As hard as it was, I was still tired and managed to fall asleep.
