Sarah nodded and quickly set to work, her hands moving with a sense of urgency. Maya watched as Dr.Telas paced back and forth across the lab, her eyes fixed on the floor. She seemed to be lost in thought, her mind racing with possibilities. After a few minutes, Sarah looked up from the microscope. "Dr. Telas, the results are the same," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Dr.Telas stopped pacing and turned to face Sarah. "What does it mean?" Maya asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. Dr. Telas eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, Maya thought she saw a glimmer of fear. "It means," Dr. Telas said slowly, "that our patient is not what we thought she was."
Maya's mind was racing with possibilities. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Dr. Telas hesitated, as if unsure of how to answer. "The test results show that our patient's DNA is...different," she said finally. "It's not just a matter of a rare genetic disorder or a mutation. It's as if her DNA has been...altered." Maya's eyes widened in shock. "Altered?" she repeated. "What do you mean?" Dr. Telas took a deep breath before answering. "I mean that our patient's DNA shows signs of...engineering."
