Chapter 35 - Homecoming and Preparing for Second Year

The Malverne family's time in France had been a refreshing experience. From visiting famous magical sites to deepening his newfound friendship with Fleur Delacour, Ezekiel had gained much from this trip. However, as the portkey activated, he found himself returning to reality.

A golden glow enveloped them, and in an instant, Ezekiel, his parents, Alys, and Celes reappeared in the grand entrance hall of Malverne Manor.

"Home sweet home!" Alys stretched her arms.

Celes, still holding Ezekiel's hand, pouted. "I miss France already…"

Ezekiel ruffled her hair. "We'll visit again."

His father, Thomas Malverne, gave him a pointed look. "After you've taken care of your responsibilities."

Ezekiel nodded, already anticipating another serious discussion.

---

Later that evening, Ezekiel was summoned to his father's study. The room was dimly lit, with the flickering glow of enchanted lanterns casting soft shadows across the mahogany furniture. Bookshelves lined the walls, filled with tomes on magic, history, and politics.

Thomas gestured for him to sit. "Your first year at Hogwarts was successful. You performed well academically, won the Quidditch Cup, and strengthened your standing among your peers. That's a good start."

Ezekiel remained composed. "I intend to build upon it."

His father gave an approving nod. "And you must. You're not just another student—you're the heir to House Malverne and the soon-to-be Lord of House Ravenclaw. That title isn't just for show. It comes with responsibilities."

Ezekiel expected this. Ever since he had gained access to Rowena Ravenclaw's lost knowledge through his family vaults, his future had changed drastically.

"Politics, alliances, and influence matter just as much as skill," Thomas continued. "You're already making an impression, but second year is where you must refine your approach."

"I understand."

Thomas leaned forward slightly. "Good. When you return for Christmas break, I will begin involving you in political matters more directly. You'll attend certain discussions and observe how alliances are formed. Learn from them."

Ezekiel's mind processed the implications. His father was slowly preparing him for leadership—not just in name, but in practice.

Thomas smirked. "Enjoy your remaining time as a student. The responsibilities only increase from here."

Ezekiel accepted this reality. He was ready.

---

The next morning, the family gathered for breakfast in the sunlit dining hall.

Marissa Malverne, ever the elegant matriarch, sipped her tea while the house-elves served a variety of dishes.

Alys, as usual, was brimming with energy. "One more year, and then I finally get to go to Hogwarts! Daphne and I are counting down the days."

Ezekiel smirked. "Enjoy your free time while it lasts."

Alys rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. I can handle schoolwork."

Celes, sitting beside Ezekiel, grinned. "Alys, you complain about studying all the time."

Alys gasped dramatically. "I do not!"

Their mother chuckled. "Regardless, you should both be prepared. Hogwarts is no easy place."

Thomas, finishing his meal, set his utensils down and addressed Ezekiel. "We'll be visiting Gringotts soon. You'll need to retrieve some documents before returning to Hogwarts."

Ezekiel understood immediately. His family vault contained not only wealth but also lost magical knowledge—knowledge that he was slowly uncovering.

"I'll be ready," he replied.

---

A few days later, Ezekiel and Thomas Malverne arrived at Gringotts. The towering white building loomed over Diagon Alley as goblin guards stood watch at the entrance.

As they entered, a goblin recognized them immediately and led them to a private underground chamber.

Only those of Malverne blood could access the family's most secure vaults, and as Ezekiel placed his hand on the enchanted iron door, he felt a familiar pull of magic.

A glow of recognition passed through the vault's protective enchantments.

With a heavy click, the doors unlocked.

Inside, Ezekiel retrieved several old manuscripts and magical items that he had previously uncovered. These contained insights into lost magical techniques, particularly those connected to his family's ice affinity and elemental control.

His father observed silently. "Take your time mastering them. Do not rush power—control is more important than strength."

Ezekiel nodded, knowing that each discovery brought him closer to unlocking his full potential.

---

With only a few days left before returning to school, Ezekiel spent most of his time reviewing his studies, practicing his magic, and organizing his plans for second year.

One evening, Celes sat beside him in the manor's library, flipping through a book far too advanced for her age.

"Ezzy, will you write to me every week?" she asked, looking up with hopeful eyes.

Ezekiel smiled, ruffling her hair. "Of course."

Celes beamed. "Promise?"

"Promise."

Alys, passing by, snickered. "She's got you wrapped around her finger."

Ezekiel smirked. "You're just jealous she doesn't miss you as much."

Alys huffed. "Rude."

Marissa, overhearing, chuckled. "Be kind to your siblings, Ezekiel."

With the last few days spent in peaceful family moments, the countdown to his second year at Hogwarts truly began.

---

On September 1st, the Malverne family arrived at King's Cross Station.

Alys and Celes waved enthusiastically as Ezekiel boarded the Hogwarts Express, prepared to embark on another year filled with challenges, discoveries, and rivalries.

The journey was only beginning.

And Ezekiel Malverne would ensure that his second year was even greater than the first.
