Chapter 1 - The Letter and the Legacy

The golden morning light filtered through the large windows of Malverne Manor, casting a soft glow over the grand dining hall where the family gathered for breakfast. The scent of freshly baked bread, spiced sausages, and eggs filled the air as servants moved efficiently around the room, setting plates before the Malverne family.

Seated at the head of the long, polished mahogany table was Thomas Malverne, the formidable patriarch of the family. His silver hair shimmered under the morning light, his emerald-green eyes sharp as he read through a parchment with his usual air of authority. To his right sat Marissa Malverne, his wife, her golden blonde hair neatly styled, her striking blue eyes observing the family with warmth but also quiet discipline.

Across from them sat their three children. Ezekiel Cassian Malverne, the eldest and heir to the family, was already dressed in a finely tailored navy-blue ensemble, his silver-blonde hair slightly tousled from sleep. His piercing blue eyes held a mixture of anticipation and composure, though deep inside, he couldn't quite suppress the excitement bubbling within him. Today, he was expecting his Hogwarts letter.

Beside him, Alyssa 'Alys' Malverne, his eleven-year-old twin sister, sat with her usual composed expression. She had inherited their father's green eyes but shared Ezekiel's silver-blonde hair, a near-perfect blend of both parents. Alys was always watchful, perceptive beyond her years. She had a natural sharpness about her—one that often led to playful yet knowing smirks, especially when teasing her childhood friend Daphne Greengrass about her obvious crush on Ezekiel.

At the far end of the table, Celeste 'Celes' Malverne, only three years old, swung her legs back and forth in her chair, happily munching on a piece of fruit. Her golden curls and innocent blue eyes were a striking reflection of their mother. Despite her young age, Celes already had a reputation in the household—she had her eldest brother wrapped around her tiny fingers. Ezekiel would never deny her anything, much to their father's exasperation.

As the family enjoyed breakfast, a sharp knock echoed through the hall.

A house-elf, dressed in a fine uniform embroidered with the Malverne crest, hurried inside, carrying a thick envelope.

"Master Ezekiel, sir! A letter from Hogwarts has arrived for you!" the elf announced, bowing slightly.

The room fell silent for a brief moment before Ezekiel reached out and took the letter. It was heavy in his hands, the parchment thick and elegant, sealed with the Hogwarts crest in red wax. His heart pounded as he traced his name on the front.

"Well," Thomas said, setting down his parchment. His green eyes met Ezekiel's with quiet expectation. "Go on, then."

Ezekiel carefully broke the seal, unfolded the letter, and began reading.

Ezekiel folded the letter carefully, exhaling. Though he had expected this, seeing it in writing made it real.

"Congratulations, my son," Marissa said, smiling. "I know you've been looking forward to this."

"You will do well," Thomas added, his approval clear. "Your path begins here, but remember, Hogwarts is more than just a school—it is where alliances are forged, reputations are built, and where your name must be cemented in history."

Alys smirked slightly. "Try not to get too arrogant, Ez."

Ezekiel shot her a look but smirked back. "I'll try."

Celes, oblivious to the greater importance of the moment, reached out for Ezekiel's sleeve. "Ez, I want Hogwarts letter too!"

He chuckled, ruffling her curls. "You'll get yours when you're older, little star."

She pouted but giggled when he tickled her side. Their father shook his head in amusement but said nothing. He had long accepted that Ezekiel had a soft spot for Celes.

"Before we go to Diagon Alley for your supplies, there is another matter to attend to," Thomas said, his expression turning serious. "We will be visiting Gringotts today to retrieve your Heir's Ring."

Ezekiel straightened. The Malverne Heir's Ring was a symbol of his birthright, marking him as the next Lord of House Malverne.

"I understand," he said.

Later that day, the family arrived at Gringotts Wizarding Bank, the marble halls as imposing as ever. Goblins eyed them with a mix of interest and wariness—Thomas Malverne was one of the wealthiest and most politically influential men in the wizarding world.

Inside one of the private chambers, a goblin elder, Ragnok, prepared the magical ritual to officially bestow the Heir's Ring upon Ezekiel. He placed an enchanted quill on a large parchment.

"Place your hand on the stone, young master," Ragnok instructed.

Ezekiel did as told. A sharp prick of pain followed as his blood was drawn.

The parchment glowed gold before ink began forming on its own.

The room fell into stunned silence.

Even Thomas, normally composed, furrowed his brows slightly. "Ravenclaw?" he murmured.

Ragnok looked pleased. "Fascinating. It appears, Lord Malverne, that your son is the rightful heir to House Ravenclaw. His maternal grandmother was the daughter of the last Lord Ravenclaw. However, after his passing, none could claim the title—until now."

Ezekiel stared at the parchment, processing what this meant. Ravenclaw was one of the four great Founding Houses of Hogwarts. No one had carried its lordship in centuries.

"It is dormant for now," Ragnok continued. "But upon reaching fifteen—after his third year—he will be officially recognized as Lord Ravenclaw, should he accept."

Thomas met Ezekiel's gaze, studying him. "This is an honor. But also a burden. You must prepare."

Ezekiel straightened. His father was right—this was a legacy larger than he had expected.

"I accept it," he said, his voice firm.

Ragnok nodded approvingly before summoning a goblin servant. "Then we shall prepare the necessary documents for the transition."

As the ceremony concluded, Ezekiel slipped the Malverne Heir's Ring onto his finger, the cool metal warming against his skin. He glanced at his mother, who gave him a soft smile.

"You carry two great legacies now, Ezekiel," she said. "Make them proud."

He would.

This was only the beginning.
