"Oh, look who barely came in today," Lara commented the moment she saw June.
"Lara, how is your recent project going?" June asked, and Lara's face fell.
"You have the time to be concerned about me?" Lara asked.
"I don't have the time, but it seems you are free, or else why do you have the time to watch me so closely?" June said, walking past her to her desk.
"If someone doesn't know, they June think you are a team leader. You even look down on those who came before you," Lara sneered and turned to leave the general area to her allocated desk in team two's area.
"It is not that I look down on those that came before me, It is that I look down on those who feel that those that just came should not outdo them," June corrected as she was leaving and continued with her work ignoring Lara who let out a curse under her breath and walked away. She had not even had the chance to settle in when she saw John Wheeler, the boss's executive assistant, enter the office. He was quite known, so many greeted him as he passed. He looked around for a bit and settled on June's form seated at her desk, and paused. He looked at her, slightly confused, then walked over to her.
"Miss Stone," he greeted, and she stood immediately so as not to accept his greeting. He was the boss' executive assistant, he was much higher up the hierarchy than her, even her director would still need to talk to him as an equal, as they were at the same rank in the company.
He looked at her quiet but polite bearing and wondered what the boss wanted with her, but remembered why he was there. He was about to speak when he noticed the entire office was watching.
"Come with me please," he said, and she nodded and followed him out.
"Mr. Wheeler, did something happen?" she asked cautiously as she followed behind him. He did not dare lead in front of her. He still unsure of her relationship with the boss.
"It is only a small matter," said as they entered the elevator. When the elevator closed and they were alone, he answered her truthfully.
"Mr. Night asked me to bring you to him," he said, and June swallowed hard.
She knew this would happen eventually, but she was still not prepared for it to happen so soon. It was just a one night stand, was she going to die because of it? It was normal for people like her to be afraid of people like him. At this point, she had no pack or family. It would be easy to make her disappear.
She was naturally afraid of being called to the boss' office, and even more afraid when she knew who the boss was. They stepped out of the elevator on the executive floor, and John led her to his office. She had never been up here before and was very nervous.
She greeted the two secretaries, who only glanced at her and greeted back. John knocked on the door and was let in. He informed Daemon that she was waiting for him and was told to let her in. Soon it was only Daemon and June in the office.
His office was designed with cool tones that she felt matched his personality. But she did not dare look around. She walked over and greeted.
"Good Morning, Mr. Night. I was told you wanted to see me," she said, keeping her voice as leveled as she could.
When she had walked in, he had noticed her quiet baring. She looked smaller than he remembered. That look on her face, it was caution. He almost felt she thought he was a debt collector. He was not sure why, but it made mid severely uncomfortable.
"You, what are you doing here? I thought you said this would not happen again, yet you are here. Why are you at the company the very next day?" he asked and she swallowed. She had thought it through. She had worked here for years. If he researched, he would know that she was not stalking him.
"I work here," she answered, and he paused.
"Where?" he asked. Why had he never heard that she worked here?
"Down in marketing," she answered.
"Since when?" he asked.
"Six years now."
Her answer was unexpected. He had thought that his grandfather had arranged a cushy job for her. But she was here for six years? That was before she even met him. This made him feel uncomfortable. It almost seemed like this was a mistake and he was the bad one here.
"What is your job title?" he asked.
"Second Assistant team leader," she answered. She was not sure where this was going. But it seemed it would be hard for him to kill her in broad daylight.
Her answer meant that she had gotten in the normal way. But she made him uncomfortable. He did not know what trouble she would cause if left around him.
"You should resign," he said.
"Why should I do that?" June asked and he raised a brow.
"Do you think it is right that you stay? After Sleeping with the boss?" he asked and she stilled.
"I am sorry sir, but my personal life is of no concern of the company. I cannot be fired unless I have done something wrong and I did not worked for years to just resign," she said coldly. He could not help but look at her again.
It seemed the little wolf had teeth. Every single time thy had met, she was always trembling and asking for help. This was new and honestly, thrilling to him.
"Then, you sure have a temper. I can fire you on grounds of corporate espionage. After all, who ever hired you to seduce the boss would also put you in my company," he said and she almost saw red.
"I have explained, that night was a misunderstanding. I have never tried to seduce anyone. I was drugged and was…" she started to say in frustration.
"I do not care," he answered and her explanation died in her throat. He truthfully did not care. He had already decided to get rid of her. She oddly took up too much space in his head and he could not explain why. He did not like the feeling.
She was not stupid, he had already formed an opinion on her and was not going to let her go. For a second, she really considered leaving, but his tone annoyed her. Still, she was not willing to show bravado. She was an ordinary person and he was a person of power. A person of power like himself could destroy her.
