Chapter 4 - The second rejection

"Ah, something familiar just waltzed in," someone said and dashed before her, blocking her path.

"So, it's the bitch!" another said.

"I knew you could not resist my charm." one of them grabbed her, lifting her feet off the ground.

She struggled wildly, then saw a familiar face walk out of the door at this moment.

"Help!" she shouted as she thrashed wildly.

Her thrashing only made the werewolves more excited.

"The cardinal," she said, when he noticed that the familiar face was walking with other men dressed in dark suits and one of them was holding an old shaped box with the cardinal's insignia on it.

"I am not falling for that again, sweetheart," one of them said.

"So this was not your first time," they heard a voice say and they paused. This was authority.

They turned around and found that it was the cardinal.

They dropped June and dashed off, but the men beside the Cardinal immediately pursued them.

June struggled to stand. She looked up to find in horror, that the man she had slept with last night was the cardinal they kept talking about.

Daemon looked down at the girl who was soaked like a drowned rat. He bent down and lifted her chin with his free hand to see her face better.

He was right. This was the girl from last night.

"Thank you," she said gratefully. She was scared. She had heard he was a scary man. His aura at this moment was suffocating.

"Even if you pretend to be the damsel a million times, I will not take you," he said and she froze. She suddenly realized that he had misunderstood her to be a stalker after she forced her way into his room the last night.

"I am sorry, last time was a misunderstanding," she started to say.

"I don't care which pack sponsored you to appear all the time. Know your place. Too thin, too weak, too ugly," he said coldly and June shivered from the blood lust radiating off him. It was different from the feeling of lust he showed last night when they tussled in bed.

He had a handsome face and beautiful lips. But the words those lips uttered made her blood boil. June swallowed her anger. She could not fight him and would probably die if he got angry. She was sure that he would kill her if she dared challenge him.

She struggled to her feet and took a deep breath.

"It will never happen again," she said and limped away.

He watched her leave, feeling severely uncomfortable. Was she doing this to make him feel bad?

The feeling was foreign to him. It made him want to get rid of her at that moment, but he held back.

It took her a while to walk home. But the time she did, her entire body hurt.

She quickly washed and went to bed, as it was late and her commute to work was even longer.

She woke up early the next day and wore her black pantsuit, took all her needs, and left home. She woke up earlier than usual.

As usual, she would need to take a bus to the train station and take a train to the city center before taking a bus to her office. By the time she got to work, she was nearly late.

She took a mental note of all the things she did wrong yesterday and rushed into the high-rise building. She now had herself alone and without a full awakening, she was no different from a human.

She signed her card in just in the nick of time, sighed in relief, and entered the elevator before it closed.

She looked up the next moment to meet Daemon Night's eyes.

She felt like cursing. Why did she have to meet him again? Being a weak wolf, storming wolves scared her and this man had a deep misunderstanding about her.

She tried to keep a straight face as he walked into the elevator with his secretary, but she was not happy.

After all, why wouldn't he be there? She worked in this company, Dark Star group headquarters, as an assistant team leader in the Marketing department for years and had never met him.

Someone in the elevator recognized him and greeted him.

"Mr. Night," he said and the rest including her quickly greeted him.

"Good morning, Mr. Night," they said, and she muttered a greeting with the rest.

The man who greeted them first was higher than her in rank, meaning This Mr. Night was probably even higher.

He was just as annoyed to see her as she was.

His brows came together all through the ride up.

He could smell the scent coming off her and it was enticing to him.

All through last night, he could not sleep. He was not sure what she had done to him, but he wanted her gone.

She stood there quietly, getting out in marketing. He immediately texted his assistant to bring her to his office when he saw what floor she had gotten off on.

By the time June got off the elevator, she was shaking. She did not know what to do.

She could feel the killing intent coming off him in the elevator. She was not stupid. She had broken her promise yesterday. She recalled that her words saying it would not happen again was indirectly promising he would not meet her again.

June went ahead and got to her desk. The moment she walked in, she spotted her nemesis, Lara Kent. When she first started working at the marketing team six years ago, she worked under Lara, who had just been promoted to assistant team leader as an intern she was training.

At first, their relationship was nothing more than superior and intern, but as the years passed, June became a full-fledged employee and even became an assistant team leader of another team. In these six years, Lara had remained assistant team leader.

None of the projects she had been assigned were groundbreaking nor did she have much execution skill compared to June.

So, even though she had been in the company longer, their director would always give June more important tasks. It was already speculated that June was going to be promoted soon based on her track record.

She saw Lara coming but was still distracted by the elevator encounter.

She trembled greatly. How was she going to get out of this? She did not know what family the Cardinal was from, but this was an apex killer.

But from his reaction in the elevator, she was sure of one thing; He wanted to kill her.
