In a few short minutes, she was back at the family home. The place was packed with werewolves. When people saw her arrive, they pushed and looked uncomfortable.
She ignored them and hurried into the house. The moment she walked in, she spotted Mason.
Mason and some elders stood around discussing something.
When he noticed her, he frowned. She did not bother to greet people and walked, and asked to speak to him privately. Mason paused before nodding and she led him to her room.
She was angry and devastated. She was not sure what to a to him especially when he looked pissed.
"What do you want to talk about?" Mason asked her.
"You are marrying Lilac?" she asked him and he raised a brow.
"When we promised we would do our ceremony in a year?" she asked and Mason frowned.
"You dare ask me this?" He said and her blood boiled.
"Why not? How could you do this?" she began to say.
"Where are you coming back from?" he asked and she paused. Soon, a low laugh left his throat.
"Who knows what the Dark Riders have done to you? But you still insist on being my mate?" he asked and she paused, looking at him in horror.
"My mother and Lilac planned this!"
"So what? Are you a child? Marrying Lilac would not only give me the support of the five families, especially now she has found her inner wolf. A rare black wolf seer. But you want me to marry you? June, You are the older sister, yet you have not yet transformed into a full wolf." he asked coldly. His words hurt.
"Why? Why her? It could be anyone, why her?" she asked.
"Calm down," Mason said. "Why are you so worked up?" he asked. There was no way he did not know why. That was her sister!
June felt as though she was running mad and tried to calm herself.
"Worked up? You are right. I just don't understand why you would marry my sister after we were taught by the entire clan to marry each other," June said.
"It's not that kind of marriage and she knows that," Mason said and returned to leaning on the kitchen island.
"Then what?" she asked.
"I need her powers to grow the clan. She can help me."
"Help with what?" she asked with raised brows.
"You know I just took over the pack, this marriage will give me more power to face, The Woodland Pack. Your sister, Lilac as a new seer can add to my bloodline. I need her. Not when our enemies are waiting to take us out."
"We are not that weak, Mason. You would make it seem that our Woodland Pack is weak." June said, "I know that you have reason to worry about the Night Wolves after their leader Eric Night killed…" she started to say, but held herself back.
"You can say it. He killed my father," Mason said but June wanted to say that was not what she meant. The Night family was a large clan. Their pack was at most a small group of wild dogs in their eyes. They did not care about him.
"Eric Night is an old man now. He is not scary enough for you to worry about all of this," June said.
"But his son is," Mason answered.
"His son?"
"Daemon Night, The Cardinal! They say he is pure blood. He is the enemy of our pack!" Mason answered.
"A pure blood? And actual pure blood? You have not seen him, why do you believe this? I could also claim to be a rare White wolf." June said.
"More than half the packs in North America have surrendered to him, Even wild wolves have submitted to him. I need this, June,"
She had always known he cared a lot about the pack, but she had thought he had some feelings towards her.
His father, at most died from a random situation that even the nights barely remember. Yet he was acting as though the Night family specifically wanted to kill him.
"You abandon me for this? Even when you know what my mother and Lilac did?" she asked.
The moment she said this, he looked irritated
He rarely ever gave her that look. She had only ever seen him give others that look. He looked this way when his dislike for someone had peaked.
Dislike?
She had never seen him look at her like this before.
But, before she could open her mouth, Mason's cold words left his mouth and struck her soul, "I, Mason Wood, reject you, June Stone."
His voice echoed so far that her eyes rounded out in shock. He had used resonance to reject her?
This was a skill most wolves used to echo their growl across their territory. Did he not know that by doing this, he was slapping her in the face?
The next moment, her parents barged into the room with cold faces. She knew they were angry with her.
"What do you think you are doing?!" Mrs. Stone scolded her.
They both had on a cold face. It was as though Mason suddenly realized the gravity of what he had done.
He had used resonance to reject her truly hoping to embarrass her. He had always known she liked him and when she asked him to choose her, he wanted her to truly give up.
If the entire Clan knew that she had been rejected, she would be put in her place. But when he saw the faces of Mr. and Mrs. Stone, he regretted it somewhat.
By doing this, he was also slapping June's face, getting her in trouble and he knew it.
And just as he guessed. Mrs. Stone walked up and gave June a hard slap.
Before they could do more, Lilac walked out from behind them.
"Let me talk to her," she said and they all panicked.
"No, Baby, you don't have to handle her, leave it to mummy," Mrs. Stone said.
"Lilac, there is no need for you to do that," Mason said.
"It's fine. Everyone, please leave," Lilac insisted and they all glanced at each other before turning around and leaving.
