Chapter 1 - At Death’s Door

Surrounded by her family members, Bao Chenghua remains calm. She knows that she is about to die. Her husband has passed away two years prior, and now it seems that her turn has arrived. Bao Chenghua's kids look at their mother with sad eyes, melancholy filling the air, she smiles warmly at them as comfort. Death is inevitable, they all know that. Suffering from fourth stage liver cancer hasn't been easy, and she's eager to be rid of the chronic pain and fatigue.

Soon, after an hour, it's time for her to depart. Bao Chenghua tells her children that she loves them before taking her final breath. However, unbeknownst to everyone, the jade bangle on her wrist starts to glow. It creates a heat that surrounds her body and traps her soul inside of it.

Bao Chenghua is surprised when she realizes that her spiritual body cannot leave this world. She tries to push against this strange force field, but it's immovable. Then, as soon as she is about to give up, there is a shocking turn of events. A vacuum-like space drags her glowing blue soul into a portal.

'Where am I going?' She thinks. Isn't she supposed to be on her way to taste Mama Meng's nutritious soup? That was her last thought before she gradually loses consciousness.

When Bao Chenghua awakes again, she is inside an entirely different body; she starts panicking. An enormous headache racks her brain, as memories from the body she currently resides in flood inside of her mind. She ends up passing out from the barrage of information.

Again she awakes from her fainting spell. However, this time she is more calm, and decides to inspect her surroundings before jumping to conclusions. Bao Chneghua looks at her hands. 'These hands are so small.' The original owner of this body was clearly a well taken care of child, having such soft and white skin. Her arms are not wrinkly like they were in her previous life, instead they are now smooth. When she pinches them it feels like the tender flesh of a boiled egg.

Getting up from the canopy bed, Bao Chenghua notices that the furniture resembles that from ancient China. There are paper windows, and the mirror next to her dresser filled with makeup products, is made from bronze. When her feet touch the wooden floors a calming scent of sandalwood wafts into her nose. That's when she sees the incense burner in a corner by the door. "In here is so beautiful," She says aloud, stunned. As a high borne woman from modern times make no mistake that she is accustomed to luxury. However, the people in this era really know how to enjoy the world's treasures to its fullest extent.

Bao Chenghua's discoveries leave her flabbergasted, she cannot believe, that by some miracle, she has transmigrated to ancient China. This is a dream come true for her! However, there is also that lingering unease beneath the joy. Granted, she's grateful for being able to have a second chance at life with her previous memories intact, it's just that, there are many dangers in ancient china that she is certainly unfamiliar with. Bao Chenghua must be careful.

The body she resides in is not more than five years old, her name is Yang Mingzhu [1]. Not to mention that she is a female, If her guess is accurate, then just by her name alone, that means she should be the daughter of some noble family. Moreover! this means that she should have chambermaids. Bao Chenghua must act just like the original owner of the body! People during this time are extremely superstitious and spiritual, they don't take kindly to those that they perceive to be possessed. Given the circumstances of her rebirth, she's also more sensitive to such matters as well.

'Very well young Mingzhu, I will be you from now on. I'm sorry that you were not fated with a long live. May peace and blessings follow you in the next.' Kneeling prostrate on the ground, Bao Chenghua sends off the original soul with heartfelt words of gratitude and blessings before accepting her new identity. A faint whisk of smoke lingers in front of her before being carried away in the wind, a childish voice saying, 'thank you' is heard before the surroundings quiet once again.

Yang Mingzhu's tiny feet lead her toward the mirror. It isn't very large in shape, but it is round and extremely shiny. This hardens Yang Mingzhu's previous notion that her family is rich. Only rich merchant families or nobles of ancient China can afford bronze mirrors. Gazing astounded at her reflection, she realizes how much of a beauty she's going to be. Even though she is only 5 years old, this body is undeniably cute. If this was the modern world, surely she would be a high paying child model.
