Chapter 4 - Chapter 3- Assessing the situation

As a mech human, he has a habit of leaving all the storage of memories to his Neuro Core; however, even without that, Ed had a good memory.

The moment he regained all the memories of the body and opened his eyes to look at the duo once again, he knew where he was and what time period it might be.

"Caleb and Cecily," Carlisle called out, making the two of them shiver as they instantly turned to look at him.

There was only a single rope tying Carl to the chair. And if he wanted then he could have easily removed himself from the restraint and ran away. But that was needless since these two people never intended to kill him. They don't have the courage.

"Your daughter, Shelly, is kidnapped, right?" Those words elicited a look of horror on the duo's face as they glanced at each other.

Carl was reminded of what part of the story this was.

Their adopted daughter, who also lives in the same service quarter with her parents was kidnapped last night, and to save her, these two were told to kidnap and kill the young master of the Ravenshade family.

Carlisle knows who has kidnapped their daughter and what fate awaits for these two.

Carl looked outside; it was still dark. If his memory serves right then Carl gets rescued in the morning, that means he still has time.

"You want to save your daughter or your own life?" Carl asked, with his brows raised.

The man, Caleb fell to his knees. Tears began welling up in his eyes as he clasped his hand and begged, "Please, young master....just save her...our little Shelly has done nothing wrong...she is just an innocent life who has already faced numerous hardships."

The lady also begged, assuming the same position as her husband, "We won't ask anything else if she gets rescued...please, young master. ..*hic*"

Carlisle watched them with a strange look in his eyes.

The world he has lived in, the only thing that mattered to everyone was their own life.

They trampled upon the lives of those whom they once called family. To survive, he has seen a mother sacrificing her own children for a sac of rice once while he was serving as a cadet.

That, and many such experiences, told him that the human mind is very narrow and one-sided. They care about nothing else but their own safety.

And here ...are these two like this because Doctor J wanted them to be like this? Or the people of this world still have it ...that word from fairy tales.

Selflessness.

Carl kept looking at them for a moment, before asking, "Won't your daughter be sad if you die here for her?"

The figure of their little daughter crying and calling out for them appeared before their eyes. For a moment, their heart trembled, however,

"N-Nothing is more...important...than her safety..."

He is scared but not hesitant—Carl noted.

"I know exactly who told you to kidnap me and who has captured your daughter. I can help you two to find her without wasting your life here."

The duo flinched...is there really such a possibility?

They both shared a look, before turning towards Carlisle, "Whatever it takes, young master....just please save her."

Carlisle heaved a sigh, "Okay then, lie down and let me kill you both."

"...."

Ravenshade was one of the five major clans that ruled over the human race. Feared and respected, they were known as the Hunting Hounds, experts in the art of assassination. No enemy could escape their blades, and no target was too difficult for them to hunt.

Unlike other clans that relied on brute strength or magic, Ravenshade thrived in the shadows. They held a vast army, one that operated in secrecy and controlled key parts of the military.

No one knows the limits of their influence, and the most fearsome entity in the clan was the current leader—Elion Ravenshade, who was rumored to have assassinated over a hundred individuals within a few minutes, even when he was just thirteen years old.

Several terrifying rumors are there about the family and the patriarch of the clan. However, what many don't know about Elion is the fact that he adores his family a little too much.

To him, they were everything. His love for them was not a weakness, as some would say—it was his greatest strength. If anyone so much as laid a finger on his kin, he would not hesitate to bring the entire world to its knees. He was a man who could spill oceans of blood, but never that of his own family.

And now, someone had dared to cross that line.

The air around the Ravenshade estate was thick with tension. Hundreds of troops dressed in black suits moved in and out of the grand villa, their eyes sharp, their expressions grim.

The young heir of the clan was missing, and the moment the news spread, the entire Ravenshade force sprung into motion like a pack of enraged wolves.

This was no mere incident. This was a direct provocation.

...

"But sir, is it really okay to infiltrate their territory? It would cause severe conflicts-" The personal adviser, had to seal his lips or he wouldn't have been able to utter another word.

The cold eyes of the middle-aged man bore holes into the other one, who was suggesting to not investigate others' territory for Carlisle's whereabouts.

"If something happens to Carl just because I was hesitant...will you take responsibility for it?" The Patriarch of Ravenshade asked, and none in the room dared to even mumble a word.

"Victor," Turning toward his eldest son, Elion said, "Take the Seventh Unit and find him before dawn."

"Understood, Father." The boy nodded, but before he could have moved out, someone came rushing in,

"Patriarch!" It was the butler working in the mansion, who intruded.

Elion frowned, but before he could have said anything the butler informed something unbelievable, "The young master ...he is back!"
