Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

A Power Surge – The Path to Mastery

Sometimes, fate had a way of delivering exactly what was needed.

The Mental Energy Boost Card—

A card that claimed to increase one's mental strength.

But in reality—

It directly boosted a ninja's total chakra reserves!

The Logic Was Clear

For most ninjas in this world, increasing their physical energy was incredibly difficult.

That's because—

Physical energy was largely fixed at birth.

The real way to grow stronger?

Developing mental energy.

The more refined one's mental energy, the greater the amount of chakra they could extract from their physical energy.

On the other hand—

Some ninjas were born with massive chakra reserves.

These were individuals with naturally immense physical energy.

Even if their mental energy wasn't particularly high—

Their powerful bodies still allowed them to generate absurd amounts of chakra.

The best example?

The original series protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki.

Born with the Uzumaki Clan's bloodline, his body had immense vitality.

As a result—

He could produce an enormous amount of chakra.

And the greatest example in history?

The First Hokage, Hashirama Senju.

His Yang Release Sage Body was so powerful—

His chakra reserves were on par with a Tailed Beast!

Haruto swiftly opened his inventory.

Inside—

A silver-white card had appeared.

On its surface was an engraving of a meditating figure.

"Eat it!"

Haruto bit down—

The card dissolved into light—

And cold energy surged through his consciousness.

His mind sharpened instantly.

The fatigue he had been feeling—

Gone.

His thoughts became crisper, clearer, faster.

His senses grew sharper.

For the first time in his life—

Haruto felt like his mind had fully awakened.

As soon as the strange sensation subsided—

Haruto immediately focused inward.

He needed to test his chakra reserves.

He began the process of chakra conversion.

Within seconds—

A realization hit him.

"My total chakra reserves…"

"Have doubled!"

He was stunned.

Before, when he converted one-tenth of his stamina into chakra—

He had gained a fixed amount.

Now—

That same one-tenth of stamina generated twice as much chakra!

A Terrifying Boost!

Haruto was still only a Genin.

His chakra reserves were relatively low.

But even so—

To have them double in an instant?

It was absolutely insane!

At this rate—

If he kept accumulating improvements like this—

It wouldn't be long before he reached Chunin-level reserves… then Jonin-level!

The Investigation Begins

"What's going on?"

"Captain, Haruto just came out of the lake, dragging this body behind him…"

"I checked the corpse…"

A deep and authoritative voice spoke next.

"Hyuga Renji? If I remember correctly, he was an Elite Chunin, wasn't he?"

"Yes! That's what's shocking—Haruto killed him!"

"Even if Haruto hadn't lost his memories, he's still just a Genin."

"A desperate Genin barely killing a Chunin? That, I could believe."

"But an Elite Chunin?!"

"And Hyuga Renji was a ruthless killer. According to intelligence reports, he had successfully assassinated a Jonin before."

"But this time… he was taken down by Haruto?!"

These voices came from outside the window.

Haruto immediately recognized one of them—

White Fang—Sakumo Hatake!

His excitement vanished instantly.

Without hesitation—

Haruto got up, rubbed his face to make himself look exhausted and frustrated, and walked toward the door.

He stepped outside.

A Mysterious Gathering

On the grassy lakeshore, a dozen ANBU ninja stood in a loose formation.

Sakumo wasn't alone.

He had brought a full squad of ANBU operatives.

All of them were dressed in black cloaks, wearing expressionless masks.

Their cold and detached presence felt almost cult-like.

Beside Sakumo—

Another high-ranking ANBU captain stood.

Codename: "Demon Mind" – Kiichi Yamanaka.

A mind-reading specialist.

Haruto's heart tightened.

Would this guy try to read his memories?!

But—

After thinking it through—

He relaxed.

Kiichi had mentioned before—

While he could use Mind Reading Jutsu, he wasn't skilled at it.

If he tried—

There was a risk of damaging the target's brain.

If it were an enemy, Kiichi wouldn't hesitate.

But since Haruto was now a Konoha ninja, he probably wouldn't.

"White Fang-sama."

Haruto approached and greeted Sakumo.

Sakumo turned.

His gaze was sharp as lightning.

"How did you kill him?"

"Explain everything—again."

This question wasn't necessary.

Haruto was the victim here.

But clearly—

Sakumo simply couldn't believe it.

So Haruto nodded.

And began spinning a tale.

"Well… I was searching the lakebed for valuables…"

"I swam forward… and suddenly, I ran into him."

"We fought—"

"He stabbed me here with a kunai—" (Haruto gestured to his now-healed shoulder wound.)

"But then—"

"He started choking on water… I grabbed his kunai and—"

It was all lies.

Of course.

No one else had seen what actually happened underwater.

He could say whatever he wanted.

Sakumo fell silent.

Behind him—

Two ANBU operatives were conducting a deeper autopsy on Hyuga Renji's corpse.

Suddenly—

Haruto spoke up.

"White Fang-sama."

"This is a confirmed assassination attempt by the Hyuga Clan."

"The evidence is clear."

"What happens next?"

Sakumo glanced at the corpse.

His voice remained calm.

"I'll report this to the Hokage."

"He will decide how to handle it."

Translation—

Nothing will happen.

 Haruto understood immediately.

 Sakumo's answer was vague—

Which meant he was avoiding the question.

Before Haruto could press further, one of the ANBU operatives finished inspecting the corpse.

 "Captain!"

"The body has 103 wounds in total—"

"Only 9 were inflicted while he was still alive."

"The other 94 wounds were inflicted after death."

"The fatal injuries—three stab wounds to the right atrium of the heart."

 Sakumo's expression darkened.

 After a pause, he murmured:

"103 wounds… You really went all out."

 Haruto shrugged.

"I had to make sure he was dead."

 Sakumo sighed.

 "Go get some rest."

 "You're done here."

"Goodnight!"

 Haruto turned and walked away.
