Chapter 27 - Chapter 25: Arima Kishou

"Alright."

Kanzaki Ryoma nodded and took the Quinque from the combat instructor.

The weapon in his hand was a white dagger, heavier than an ordinary blade. The texture felt strange—firm yet slightly organic, a clear reminder that it was crafted from the kagune of a ghoul. In addition to the ghoul's tissue, Quinques incorporated memory metal known as Quinque Steel, enhancing their durability and lethality.

[Ding! The host has used a Quinque for the first time. Reward: 1 Fusion Point!]

The instructor didn't explain how to wield it, so Kanzaki relied on his own instincts. The first thing that came to mind was the handling of kunai—small, swift weapons that could be used in close combat or thrown from a distance.

Having inherited Uchiha Madara's combat skills, Kanzaki was naturally proficient with such weapons. He adjusted his grip, narrowed his eyes at a large rock some distance away, and hurled the Quinque as if it were a kunai.

The dagger cut through the air, striking the rock with precision. A sharp crack echoed as the stone shattered under the impact. The sheer force behind the throw—combined with the durability of the Quinque—made it more destructive than an ordinary bullet.

The instructor raised an eyebrow.

The surrounding students stood in stunned silence.

Kurona Yasuhisa couldn't help but sigh. She exchanged a glance with her twin sister, Nashiro.

"Nashiro, he's really something. To pull that off on his first try…," Kurona murmured.

"I won't deny that he's skilled," Nashiro admitted. "But our rankings won't be decided by this alone."

The instructor, still impressed, turned to Kanzaki.

"You've used daggers before, haven't you?"

"Yes, I've trained with similar weapons," Kanzaki answered.

Technically, he hadn't trained himself—he had inherited the experience from Madara. But there was no need to clarify that.

"Impressive," the instructor praised.

Even for someone experienced in handling blades, adjusting to a Quinque should take time. The weight and balance differed significantly from conventional weapons, yet Kanzaki wielded it effortlessly.

Next, the instructor had the class practice dagger throws, followed by basic slashes against wooden targets. Sparring was not included—since Quinques were deadly weapons, it was too dangerous for students who had yet to master them.

Unsurprisingly, Kanzaki performed the best in both throwing and melee combat. His inherited skills gave him a clear advantage.

As class neared its end, Kanzaki saw an opportunity.

"Instructor, can I keep this Quinque?" he asked. "It feels comfortable to use."

The instructor scratched his head. "Rules don't allow students to take Quinques outside of class. They're only for training."

"I see," Kanzaki replied, unsurprised. He had expected as much, but it was worth trying.

Even within the CCG, not every investigator was qualified to wield a Quinque.

Noticing Kanzaki's interest, the instructor offered an alternative.

"Well, there is a way. Students are issued Quinques during their internship period. But be warned—internships are dangerous. First-years aren't usually recommended for them."

"Internship?" Kanzaki asked. "You mean actual ghoul combat?"

"That's right. Every student must complete an internship before graduating. You'll be assigned to an experienced investigator, so don't let it scare you."

Kanzaki considered it. "Can I start earlier?"

If he could fast-track his internship, he'd gain access to a Quinque much sooner.

"It's possible," the instructor admitted. "The two-year training period isn't mandatory. If you prove yourself capable in real combat, you can bypass the full curriculum and become an official investigator. Some of the strongest in the CCG never attended the Academy at all."

He smirked. "Some of them are so powerful, they don't even seem human."

Kanzaki immediately understood what the instructor meant—half-humans.

People like Kishou Arima.

Born from the mysterious Sunlit Garden, half-humans possessed superior speed, reflexes, and endurance. Their only drawback was a significantly shorter lifespan.

Of course, the CCG never publicly acknowledged their existence.

"If it's possible, I'd like to start my internship early," Kanzaki said.

The instructor's expression grew serious. "You sure about that? There's a batch of interns heading to the 24th Ward soon… under the command of Arima himself."

Kanzaki's eyes narrowed.

He was about to meet Kishou Arima?

The instructor nodded, admiration in his tone. "Yeah. Arima Kishou—the White Reaper, the undefeated ghoul investigator. If you intern under him, you'll be in safe hands."
