Chapter 1 - Chapter 1- Tribulation

On a somber Friday afternoon, as lightning flickered in the skies and thunder resounded, the winds howled relentlessly. Jacob, a young shepherd boy, struggled to maintain his balance as he sought refuge. A mere 14-year-old lad, Jacob had been entrusted with tending the family's flock in the mountains. This marked his first solo mission to the mountains, driven by a fervent desire to impress his father and showcase his capabilities. All had transpired smoothly until an unexpected storm arose. In the midst of the tempest, he endeavored to guide the flock back down the mountain when a chorus of wolves' howls pierced the air. Without warning, a pack of wolves emerged from the woods, advancing towards the sheep. Despite Jacob's valiant efforts to shield the flock, it was a futile endeavor.

The sheep were mercilessly slaughtered, and he narrowly escaped the clutches of the ravenous wolves. Witnessing the final sheep being ravaged by a particularly massive wolf, Jacob sprinted into the forest, camouflaging his scent by smearing mud on himself while deftly evading the entwined vegetation. Eventually, the echoes of the wolves' howls faded, prompting Jacob to pause momentarily, ensuring he was no longer in imminent peril. Exhausted, he leaned against the gnarled roots of a tree, struggling to draw breath as the surge of adrenaline waned. The winds intensified, propelling Jacob to ascertain his bearings, having fled in such a disoriented manner that he was clueless as to his current whereabouts and the route leading back home. Thus unfolded the tale of young Jacob, forging ahead amidst an unprecedented storm, a feat unparalleled in his quaint village.

The winds continued to rage, and young Jacob pressed on. The sky darkened as more clouds gathered, making it increasingly challenging for Jacob to navigate forward. In the distance, Jacob spotted a mighty tree with a hollowed trunk large enough for him to seek temporary shelter from the storm. He skillfully maneuvered towards it and nestled himself within the trunk, curling up with his knees to his chest and arms wrapped around his feet. Peering out, he watched as the torrential rains fell and debris scattered in the fierce wind.

Silent tears streamed down Jacob's face as he mourned the loss of the sheep, realizing the disappointment his father would feel. The flock was their livelihood, and without it, their financial future hung in uncertainty. The thought of losing their home and ranch weighed heavily on Jacob's heart. He regretted persuading his father to let him take the flock alone to the mountains, his desire to prove himself now a bitter memory. Blaming himself for the impending hardships that would befall his family, Jacob remained hidden in the shelter of the tree, weeping as the storm raged on. Unbeknownst to Jacob, while he endured the relentless storm on the mountain, the village below enjoyed clear skies and favorable weather, perfect for tending to the flock. Jacob's father, from the village's perspective, had no doubt that his son was joyfully shepherding the sheep up the mountain. Little did they know that the sheep had fallen prey to a pack of wolves, a rare occurrence in the area where the most feared creature was likely just a harmless mountain rabbit.
