Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Smile

As William headed to the port, he kept his eyes on the road and considered how to solve the problem with the others. He took out his phone and called the attendant, waiting impatiently for an answer. When the attendant picked up the phone, William spoke quickly.:

- Duty officer, call the neighboring district departments, let them go to the port. As soon as they arrive, let them wait for the explosion, and then begin the assault.

"Okay," the attendant replied, pausing for a moment, and then asked:

Are you going to be okay?

Without answering the question, William hung up the phone and, without taking his eyes off the suitcase containing the explosive device and the money for cover, whispered softly:

"I'll get you, even if I have to pay with my own life."

Recalling Knight's identity, he recalled that he often used hostages as bait. When people brought the money, it turned out that the hostage was already dead.

Frowning, William gritted his teeth, realizing that Derik might have been a victim of these criminals for a long time. Recalling their first meeting, he recalled that he had already been working in the department for the second year, and they were assigned to work on the same case, which they successfully solved. After getting to know each other better, they became close, and in the course of further events, William became Derik's boss, but at the same time remained soft towards him.

Pushing away the memories, William accelerated, eager to get to the port as soon as possible, because it was getting close to night.

On the way to the port, William noticed that there were two armed guards at the entrance to the building. He parked in the parking lot, unhurriedly picked up his suitcase and got out of the car, trying not to arouse suspicion.

On his way to the door of the building, he noticed one of the guards, who seemed strange to him. The guard looked at William, but did not react in any way, as if he knew who he was and why he had come here.

Approaching the guards, William asked:

"May I come in?"

The guards looked at each other and nodded, after which one of them emotionlessly replied:

- yes.

William found the guards' behavior suspicious, they seemed insensitive. Pushing these thoughts away, he entered the building. Inside, there were long corridors with doors on both sides. Ignoring them, he turned back and asked:

"Where is Knight?"

- Last door on the left.

Hearing the answer, William moved on.

"Why didn't he walk me out? Have they completely lost their guard?" — he thought, reflecting that the number of guards was suspiciously small.

Soon, he arrived at his destination. In front of him was an ordinary wooden door with a gray plaque that read:

"CEO Knight"

William grinned as he read the inscription. This inscription angered him with its existence. He stopped at the door and sank into his memories.

He remembered the failed kidnapping case involving Knight. Due to lack of evidence, he was released, but William did not give up. He watched Knight's every move, but he didn't notice anything suspicious. Leaving the surveillance to Connor, he busied himself with other matters, waiting for a response from Connor, who continued to monitor Knight for a long time.

Connor is probably dead now. Knight seemed to notice how he was following him, and after finding out where he lived, he sent his men to pick him up.

It seems Knight was very careful and tried not to leave any evidence. He didn't do anything himself, but only talked, and perhaps that's why there was no evidence of his guilt.

William came to his senses, looked at the door handle and, stretching out his hand, felt goosebumps run through his body. It seemed to him that there was something dangerous lurking behind the door, which pressed down on him with its greatness. He reached for the handle and opened the door anyway.

When the door was fully opened, William saw only a desk and chairs in the room. Knight was sitting in front of the table, seemingly waiting for him to appear. Knight looked into William's eyes, smiled, and, opening his arms in a welcoming gesture, said:

- My dear friend, by what fates? Did you want to see an old friend?

Knight paused for a moment, looked at the suitcase in William's hand, and grinned.:

"Or did you come for your friend?"

Hearing these words full of ridicule, William wanted to immediately pounce on him, but, pulling himself together, he went to a chair and sat down. William looked at Knight, who was drinking tea.:

- Tell me honestly, is Derik already dead?

Knight looked into William's eyes and nodded his head, confirming his words.

William, having received the answer to his question, looked at the ceiling and asked:

"Why would you kill the entire department and my friends if you only wanted me?"

After asking Knight, William looked at him with a frown. Knight, noticing his anger, smiled and replied:

"I need to take my enemy's arms and legs first, and then my head." I do that to my victims, and now you've become one of them.

Smiling, he looked into William's eyes, which were filled with rage from what he had heard.

- Well, what are you angry about, I made their lives easier, they died quickly.

William, about to get up, stopped when he heard the door creak behind him. He turned around and his eyes widened in surprise. The deputy head of the department, Sofia's right-hand man, was standing at the door. Remembering his behavior, one could say that he was a responsible person, but rather quiet, even too much. Almost nothing was known about him except his place of residence and work.

William stared intently into the deputy's eyes, as if asking what he was doing here. The man smiled, nodded his head and approached him, holding out his hand. However, William, looking at the outstretched hand, pushed it away, saying:

- I don't shake hands with traitors.

The deputy, glancing at his hand and looking up at William, grinned. He walked away from him and walked over to Knight, and they shook hands.

William was unnerved by their relaxation. When he got tired of waiting, he growled at the deputy:

"Why did you betray us?" Because of the money? You were getting 20% of the profits from the roof, weren't you even getting enough of that, Martin?

William could see the grin in Martin's eyes at his words. Undeterred, he picked up a cup of tea that was already cold on the table. After taking a sip, he began to speak:

- I didn't do it for the money, not for the power.

- Then for what?!

William shouted, but immediately fell silent, noticing how Knight was sitting on a chair and folded his arms. He looked into Martin's eyes, who also put his hands together and said:

- All this is in the name of our Lord, the First Star, the darkness that will consume everything!

Listening to all this nonsense that this madman was saying, William was about to get up, but he was immediately called out:

- William, you are a very effective person, I would like to work with you. Do you agree to serve our Lord together?

Martin held out his hand and looked in William's direction. A thought flashed through his mind:

"They're crazy bastards."

Remembering how many people they could have killed, the thought gave William goosebumps. He looked at Martin's outstretched hand, looked up at Martin, who was smiling, and realized that if he shook this trash, he would become the same himself. Agreeing to the final decision, he slapped Martin's hand, who, ignoring his actions, rubbed his hand and turned to Knight.:

- Do you hear car sirens outside?

Looking towards the window, Knight saw police cars gathered around the building and employees waiting for the signal.

- It's very good that the victim comes to us on his own.

After saying that, he took the walkie-talkie that was under the table, turned it on and said:

"I'm ordering everyone to start shooting at the police.

Saying this into the radio, he looked out the window, waiting for the shooting to begin.

William, listening to all this and noticing how doors were opening and footsteps were heard outside the door in the corridor, one could understand that there were a lot of people. Realizing all this, William said:

- You seem to have prepared very well for this.

With that, he put the suitcase on the table.

Martin noticed the suitcase and looked at William with a grin. Stepping towards him, he said:

- It looks like you wanted to save your friend with money, but you didn't know that he was already dead?

William, listening to Martin's provocation, put his hand in his pocket, where there was a detonator from a bomb hidden in a suitcase. Putting his finger on the button, he stared intently into Martin's eyes, listening to the sounds of gunfire outside the window. He felt sorry for the employees involved in this commotion, but he understood that he had to get rid of these scoundrels.

Knight raised his hand with a walkie-talkie and spoke into the microphone.:

- Blow up points A and B.

Hearing Knight's order, William's gaze clouded, but he was able to concentrate and said with a grin:

- You will leave with me!

Pressing the detonator button, he activated it. Expecting an explosion, William looked into Martin's eyes again, who met him with an emotionless stare.

* Explosion in the office*

All the people outside stopped and turned towards the explosion. When they saw the smoke, they realized that it was a sign, and all employees of the department began to storm the port.

At the last moment, William noticed a smile on Martin's face, which indicated that he knew about the suitcase.

William's last thoughts were:

"I have avenged you."
