Chapter 2 - Quirks: Discovery of Power

Discovery of Power

A few weeks had passed since Alya Kujou moved in next door, and she had already claimed Akira Tachibana as her best friend. No one had a say in it—especially not Akira.

It was another bright afternoon, and the two were in Akira's backyard. Akira sat under a shady tree, his portable console in hand, while Alya sat beside him, watching with curiosity.

Suddenly, a butterfly fluttered past Alya's nose.

Her eyes sparkled. "Ooooh! So pretty!"

She reached out to grab it, but before her fingers could touch it—

The butterfly stopped midair.

Akira blinked. "Huh?"

Alya tilted her head. The butterfly was frozen in place, as if trapped in invisible strings.

Then, without thinking, she waved her hand—

And the butterfly gently floated to the side.

"Eh?" Alya gasped, eyes wide. "Did I just…?"

Akira stared at her, then at the butterfly, then back at her. "...Did you just use your Quirk?"

Alya's eyes sparkled. "I HAVE A QUIRK?! YAY!" She jumped up excitedly. "Akira, did you see that?! I moved it with my mind!"

Akira nodded slowly. "Yeah… you actually did."

Alya raised her hands dramatically. "Maybe I have the power of a superhero!"

Akira snorted. "You're not a hero."

She pouted. "Hmph! Well, I still have a Quirk!" She turned to him with excitement. "What about you, Akira? What's your Quirk?"

Akira blinked. "...Dunno. Never really tried using it."

Alya gasped. "Then let's find out!"

Before Akira could protest, Alya grabbed his hands and pulled him up. "C'mon! Do something cool!"

Akira sighed, thinking for a moment. He had never cared much about heroes or Quirks. His parents had told him he might have one, but he never really thought about it.

But since Alya was looking at him with those expectant, sparkling eyes…

He decided to try.

Hawkeye Awakens

Akira took a deep breath and focused. He tried to feel something inside him.

Then—

His vision changed.

His grey eyes turned glowing light blue.Everything around him became clearer, sharper, almost slower. The wind brushing through Alya's silver hair, the subtle fluttering of the butterfly's wings—he could see it all.

Far in the distance, a bird was flying in the sky. Akira narrowed his eyes, and suddenly—

He could see every detail of its feathers.

His heartbeat quickened.

"...Whoa."

Alya tilted her head. "Did it work? What happened?"

Akira slowly looked at her. His golden eyes were glowing slightly.

"I… can see everything."

Alya gasped. "Everything?!"

Akira nodded. "Yeah. It's like… everything slowed down. And I can see stuff really far away."

Alya's jaw dropped. "That's so cool! You have super eyes!"

Akira looked around, testing it further. His vision adjusted automatically. When he focused, distant objects zoomed in as if he had binoculars built into his eyes.

Then, he turned to Alya.

He could see every detail—the tiny movements of her lips as she breathed, the way her eyes shifted slightly with curiosity, and even the tiniest speck of dust in her hair.

"...Weird," he muttered.

Alya pouted. "What? What's weird?"

Akira frowned. "I can see way too much. It's kinda annoying."

Alya giggled. "Wow, your Quirk is so strong, and you're complaining! You're like a sniper! Ooooh, maybe you'll be a super cool spy when you grow up!"

Akira blinked. A spy? He hadn't thought about that.

Before he could respond, Alya suddenly gasped and grabbed his hands. "Akira! Let's play a game!"

He raised an eyebrow. "What kind of game?"

Alya grinned. "A Quirk battle!"

Akira immediately frowned. "That sounds dumb."

Alya ignored him. She ran a few feet away and spun around dramatically. "You have to try and catch me! I'll use my telekinesis, and you use your super eyes!"

Akira sighed. "This is dumb."

Alya smirked. "Or are you scared you'll lose?"

Akira twitched. "...Tch."

"Okay! Ready… set… GO!"

The First 'Battle'

Alya immediately lifted a rock with her mind and threw it at Akira.

Akira's Hawkeye activated instantly.

Time slowed down.

He saw the exact angle the rock was flying and tilted his head slightly, dodging with ease.

Alya pouted. "Hey! That was too fast!"

Akira smirked. "You're too slow."

She huffed and lifted three rocks this time. She waved her hand, and they shot toward him.

Akira's eyes flickered.

He saw the trajectory of all three rocks.

He stepped to the side, dodging the first. He ducked, avoiding the second.

The third rock? He casually caught it midair with one hand.

Alya's jaw dropped. "W-WHAT?! How?!"

Akira smirked, spinning the rock in his fingers. "Hawkeye."

Alya stomped her foot. "Ugh! Fine! Time to get serious!"

She lifted five pebbles and sent them flying at him from different angles.

Akira saw everything.

His body moved before he even thought about it. He dodged left, stepped back, and knocked a pebble out of the air with his palm.

Alya's eyes widened in awe. "Wooooow! You're like a ninja!"

Akira smirked. "You're not hitting me."

Alya grinned mischievously. "Oh yeah? What if I do… THIS!"

Suddenly, the ground under Akira's foot shifted.

She had lifted a chunk of dirt beneath him, making him lose balance.

Akira's eyes widened as he stumbled.

Alya giggled. "Gotcha!"

But Akira wasn't done.

Even as he fell, his vision locked onto Alya's movements. He saw the way she shifted on her feet, the way her fingers twitched just slightly before she used her telekinesis—

Akira reacted instinctively.

He pushed off the ground with his hand, flipping midair, and landed smoothly.

Alya's jaw dropped again.

Akira dusted himself off and smirked. "Nice try."

Alya pouted. "Ugh! I was so close!"

Then, she suddenly smiled brightly. "That was so fun!"

Akira paused. Fun?

Now that he thought about it… it was fun.

He had never played like this before. It was different from video games—this was real.

Alya giggled. "Let's do this every day!"

Akira looked at her, then at his hands.

Maybe… he didn't mind.

He smirked slightly. "Fine."

And so, from that day on, their training began.

Two kids, completely different.

One with the eyes of a predator.

One with the power of the unseen force.

A bond that would only grow stronger.
