Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: TREATED TRAITORS AS FAMILY

Trinity returned to the office and didn't bother with the glances being directed towards her.

It was these people who snitched and turned white-black with their words. And now because of them, she lost her job.

Have they ever thought that by their actions, they sabotaged a family?

Did they even think for a second that just like them, she had a family to support and she was the breadwinner?

With the job gone, what was waiting for her?

Trinity's gaze turned cold as she sat on the chair. A chair that once was her comfort when at work, but now it was as if there were sharp objects stuck on it and her butt was being pierced.

She didn't want to spend any more time in this office. She just wanted to pack and go home as soon as possible.

At least when she gets home, her mind can think properly.

However, before going home, she still needed to finish the work assigned to her. After all, that's what she owed the company despite the dismissal.

Without entertaining anyone, she continued with her work. And now and then she could see her colleagues going to the boss's office. Didn't know if they received the same death sentence as her. After all, their acting skills were so good. She failed to see anything.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

When 4:30 pm struck, the phone in the office rang and the male colleague who passed the message to Trinity earlier answered the call.

This time, Trinity looked at him, wondering what that ex-boss of hers now wanted from them again.

However, when she heard the man confirming, "We should pack and leave?" a smile blossomed on her face for a moment.

Finally, she could leave this place and get as far away as she could from here.

She couldn't wait.

The colleague then hung up the phone before looking at everyone and said, "The boss said we can knock off."

Everyone in the office heaved with relief, and Trinity didn't waste time but started to clear her desk and pack what should be packed. As for what should remain, she had already sorted it out beforehand.

"Finally, we are closing!"

"I can't wait to take a rest. I have been working too hard this year!"

"Same here!"

Trinity's colleagues were quite happy and busy chatting animatedly. With a glance, Trinity could tell that these people should have kept their jobs, and it was she, the unlucky foreigner who got laid off.

How unfair?

Fortunately, she wouldn't be working with them anymore from now on. As for what to do in the future, she still has the rest of the month to think.

For now, pack and leave.

So, once she was done with organizing. She packed her bag and looked at the traitors who had been by her side for the past three years and said, "I am done, guys. I will be leaving first!" biding them farewell with a smile on her face, though it wasn't genuine at all.

Who cared about going with each other to the bus station?

There was no way that she would be going anywhere with these traitors.

The thought of them walking by her side, faking it with her, she doubted if she would be able to hold herself on the road.

They might as well part in peace and amicably.

The other four colleagues of hers acknowledged her farewell and even said to her in return, "Sure. Go home safely and let's meet again next year!"

Hearing that, Trinity resisted the urge to throw punches at the four.

Their words were so piercing and painful to listen to. However, a person should be civilized, so she could only return the good wishes, answering, "Sure. We will. Take care, everyone!" with a smile on her face as if she wasn't hearing the jab in their words.

After saying so, she waved her hands at them before she carried her backpack and left the office without turning back.

Seeing her leaving with her head held high like that, the other four clicked their tongues, disdain written all over their faces.

"Even at this point, she still tries to act haughty!"

"It's good that she would be gone."

"A good riddance!"

The four colleagues never held their word now that the person they didn't like was gone.

Unknown to them, though, standing against the wall was Trinity, who was supposed to have left. She didn't know why she pretended as if she was gone and yet remained by the wall.

When she overheard how these colleagues she had looked up to as her family, despite the different nationality talking ill about her like that, Trinity's eyes reddened as she found herself a fool.

She should have known that being amazing at times could attract hate. But it wasn't like she took their jobs or something.

At an accounting firm, every person has his or her roles to play and duties to do. They never clash. So why were they acting like that towards her?

As she left the office, the place she had taken as part of her home since she spent ten hours at the office every single day for six days per week, she couldn't help but laugh mockingly at herself.

"How could I be a fool?"

Trinity felt like she was the greatest joke in the world. Otherwise, how did she get blindsided just like that?

This was what was on her mind as she walked to the bus station. From the office to the station, she needed to walk for more than twenty minutes. It was quite far.

However, this time, she didn't even feel anything, as the station felt much closer. Before she knew it, she was seated in the taxi, ready to go home.

On the way home, her mind drifted to what exactly she did wrong and why she ended up being the target of the other four.

That stayed with her as she alighted from the taxi and walked seven minutes to the house, she had been renting for two years.

'Just what exactly did I do wrong?'

Even when she reached home, the crime she truly committed to suffer like that was still unbelievable.

However, when she reached her house, and saw that box with her name written on it by the door, and the sender's name being a name she frequently saw in her writing side hustle, realization suddenly dawned on them.

'Could it be that these people were jealous of the earnings I was earning from writing books?' her eyes widened at the thought, and a wry smile emerged on her face.

Surely, too much show-off could lead to doom.

She did this to herself.

And now it was too late to regret, but was it really too late?

As she picked the box, and recalled something that happened nearly three months ago on her birthday, a glimmer of hope suddenly shone on her.

'It might not be a bad thing to get fired at all!' a smile blossomed on her face as she looked forward to the kind of surprise that had been sent to her.

The elderly had always said, after all. When another door closes, another always opens.

There was no way that she was going to let that person down.

She was going to fight and make those traitors regret ever betraying her like this.

She wasn't someone who goes down easily.

She was going to show them!
