Chapter 2 - TWO: THE WILL TO LIVE

SERENA

I laid there, in the pool of my own blood, waiting for death. Was this how I was going to die? By the hands of my best friend?

No! I couldn't.

I didn't want to die. I wanted to live, if not for any reason, but for her.

My child.

With my shaky hands, I took my hand to my belly. I hoped she was alright.

My poor baby. I wasn't even able to announce the pregnancy to anyone and now I was going to die?

No, no, no! I couldn't let that happen. I had to get help, no matter what, I had to save my baby.

I squeezed my eyes shut, to stop more tears from flowing out. I had to be strong.

My baby must live.

With countless deep breaths, I gathered the little strength I had left, and pushed my body over to lay on my stomach, the same stomach that I was stabbed in.

"Argh!" I let out a sharp cry. This pain was too much, but it was the only way. I had to lay on my stomach to be able to crawl.

My cries and screams were muffled, as I held myself from screaming out from the excruciating pain. I had to be strong, I had to find help before I passed out.

I began to crawl, my chin on the floor, and my eyes up, as I held my injury. I crawled slowly to where my phone was on the floor. I lifted my shaky right hand, and paused the recording that I had made.

I had secretly begun recording me and Ariel's conversation before I got stabbed. The phone had slipped from my hand right after I got stabbed, but thankfully she didn't see the recording icon because it had slipped to the back of the couch.

Part of me was so happy I had recorded the conversation, and this could be used as evidence, I just had to live and get my revenge.

I began to feel dizzy at that instant. It was coming, I was going to pass out any moment from now. I swiped my phone, and dialed a number, gasping for breath. The only number I felt safe to call right now.

"Help me!" I managed to whisper those words, and right after that, all I saw was pure darkness.

GABE

"We are ready to move," Marco, my personal assistant and right hand man announced, as I hopped into the car.

I leaned in and got comfortable, taking the button of my jacket off. "Is everything ready?" I asked him, and he swiftly nodded.

"Everything is in place, all you need to do is just to appear, and have a meeting with our important stakeholders" he said, and i nodded, closing my eyes to bask in the morning breeze.

I had to mentally prepare for what I was going to get myself into. The stakeholders were like the pillars holding my company together. Although I had a lot of influence and power, I still needed stakeholders to make my company stronger and to be the number one best. But they definitely had a thing for getting on my nerves. They were just selfish hooligans, who thought about themselves and prioritized their profit more than risk.

They never cared about the welfare of my company. All they knew was that my great ideas must always bring them profits no matter what.

I groaned at that.

"Bunch of selfish fools" I said, as I looked out the window.

"What?" Marco asked, confused.

"Not talking to you" I waved at him, signaling that I wasn't talking to him. He nodded, and got back to his phone.

I sighed as I looked outside. I hoped and prayed that they didn't get me pissed. I didn't even like addressing them one bit. I would choose staying in a prison for a year over having a meeting with the stakeholders, but I knew I had no choice. It was all for my company.

I leaned into my seat and closed my eyes to think and get lost into my world when I felt a ring in my pocket, distracting me.

"What the h*ll?" I groaned as I snapped my eyes open. I contemplated just ignoring the call, but one part of me wanted to pick the call.

I sat up, and brought my phone out of my pocket. I looked at the caller id, and my brows raised in a frown.

Serena? Why was she calling me? We had no business together, and even if we did, it had always been for the sake of our alliance. I and Serena were sworn enemies. Well not really sworn, but we were enemies in competition.

We were competitive with everything, even down to our businesses. Our company's, dealt with the same thing, but I was always number one.

I smirked at that.

I picked up the call, and held it close to my ear.

"Serena, what is it? Did you call me to accept defeat?" I smirked as I asked.

"Help me!" I heard a faint voice and I immediately became stiff.

"Turn the car around!" I ordered as i ended the call, and kept the phone in my pocket

Marco looked at me in shock. "What? We can't turn around now, the stakeholders are already seated"

"TURN. THE. FUCKING. CAR. AROUND" i ordered, my tone fierce.

Did i look like i gave a fuck?

The driver immediately turned around, and I gave them the address to Serena's house.

"Speed up!" I said, tapping my hands on the seat anxiously.

We got to her house, and i didn't even bother waiting for my guard to come open the car door. I busted out of the car as soon as it came to a stop.

I rushed into her house, to meet an unconscious Serena on the floor, in the pool of her own blood, and her phone beside her.

My eyes widened in shock.

"Marco, call Mr. Guilio now! Tell him to get a stretcher ready and wait outside the hospital, it's an emergency" i barked out orders, as i lifted Serena's unconscious body.

I dashed out of the house with her and into the car.

"Serena? Please stay with me" i said, as I held her face in my hands, a hint of fear evident in my tone.
