Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Stranger in the Village

Twelve years later.

The market was alive with voices—merchants shouting, children laughing, horses trotting through the muddy streets. The scent of roasted chestnuts and fresh bread filled the cool autumn air.

Evelyne Caelum moved quietly through the crowd, her hood pulled low. She didn't look like a noble. She dressed simply—just a dark cloak over a modest dress. But there was something about her, something delicate and graceful. A quiet beauty, like a princess from a forgotten story.

She pressed a hand against the satchel at her hip. Inside was a letter.

"Your parents' deaths were no accident."

Her fingers curled around the fabric. She had spent twelve years in silence, never daring to ask about that night. But now, someone wanted her to know the truth.

And the man who held the answers had just stepped into the village.

At first, she didn't notice him. He was just another traveler in the crowd, cloaked in black. But then he turned.

Long, dark hair framed his sharp face. A thin scar ran across his left cheek, and his storm-gray eyes scanned the market like a hunter.

Something inside Evelyne tensed.

"I know him."

She wasn't sure how. But she felt it.

Before she could think, she stepped forward.

"You don't look like someone from around here."

Phileo stopped. Slowly, he turned his gaze to her.

"And you don't sound like someone who minds their own business," he said, his voice low and steady.

Evelyne smirked. "Fair point."

She expected him to walk away, but he didn't. He stared at her—too long, like he was trying to place her.

Then something flickered in his eyes.

Recognition.

Evelyne's heartbeat quickened.

"He knows me."

Before she could say another word, Phileo exhaled sharply and turned, disappearing into the crowd.

"Wait!" she called after him.

He didn't stop.

But he hesitated.

And that was enough to tell her she was right.

She had seen him before.

And now, she would find out why.
