Synopsis
Harry Potter thought things were looking up for him. Despite Cedric's death, despite no one believing him about Voldemort's return, even despite his closest friends hiding the existence of a secret order made to combat Voldemort from him, he still thought this could be his year. He'd gotten a call from Gringotts and ended up the heir of two major houses, and even got two beautiful fiancees to add on to it. Unfortunately, his year was doomed to fail, from horrid visions to the new High Inquisitor, the year was shaping up to be a mess. It was while he was sitting in his compartment on the ride back from Christmas break that he heard a knock on the door. That was the moment that Harry Potter died. Andre Dubois was the newest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. A young man who'd just graduated from Beauxbatons, his first year at Hogwarts had been frustrating to deal with. Dolores Umbridge did her best to limit what he could teach, so he'd been forced into holding a secret club just to not have all his students fail their tests. He figured he'd have a nice peaceful winter break and then ride back on the train. Then, a student died and they were stranded in the snow unable to get help. Now, as the only professor on board, Andre was left to answer an important question. "Who killed Harry Potter?"

Chapter 1 - Prologue

Harry Potter sat in his compartment on the Hogwarts Express. Ron and Hermione had originally been in the compartment with him, and the trio had been discussing recent events, but the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher had been patrolling the train and passed by, so the two had left with him to go to the prefect meeting.

Before they left, they'd been talking about Harry having strange visions. One of the visions showed Arthur Weasley being attacked in the Department of Mysteries. He'd quickly told McGonagall and Dumbledore, and they found Arthur wounded from various venomous snake bites. He was quickly rushed to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries to recover, and the Weasleys alongside Harry and Hermione left for Christmas break to stay with him while he recovered.

Originally, they were going to take the Knight Bus back to Hogwarts, but they changed their minds and rode back on the Hogwarts Express with the rest of the school, which was returning from Christmas break.

Harry sighed and leaned back in his seat, mind full of the thoughts that plagued him. Trying to get his mind off it, he spun a ring on his finger. If one looked closely at the ring, one would notice that it had the word "Potter" engraved on it. During the summer after the fourth year, while Harry was mourning Cedric, he'd gotten a letter from Gringotts. He'd never really gone to Diagon Alley on his own, but he needed to get his mind off things so he'd ended up going to find out what it was about.

He'd ended up meeting an account manager there and discovered several things he'd had no idea about, the first of which was that since he was the heir to the Potter family, he should've gone in a lot sooner. There were a lot of benefits that came with accepting his status officially, but he'd had no idea he was even supposed to do that.

Once again, it was another thing about the Wizarding World that no one saw fit to tell him. He had to do a bunch of paperwork, but in the end, he claimed the Potter heirship and got the ring that now adorned his finger. Though, that was just the first of many surprises he had in store while at Gringotts.

In addition to being the heir to the Potters, before the night Voldemort had attacked, Sirius had made him his heir as well, so he was also the heir to the Blacks. Draco was next in line if he didn't claim it, and he enjoyed getting one over on that ponce as he accepted that heirship as well.

Harry continued to spin the ring on his finger while he sat in thought, and as he did it flickered, the word "Potter" changing to "Black" momentarily before it changed back.

The last thing he found out only after he'd accepted both heirships was that each family had a marriage contract set up for their heir. Since he accepted both, the marriage contract for the Potters along with the contract that was originally Draco's were transferred to him. That was the day Harry had ended up suddenly finding himself engaged to Susan Bones and Daphne Greengrass.

He'd gone back to the Dursleys with a lot on his mind, but then everything with the Dementor happened and he'd found himself at Grimmauld Place and learned about the Order of the Phoenix. It was just another thing no one saw fit to tell him about, even his own best friends having learned about it before him.

Thankfully, at least Sirius was on his side. He'd lobbied for him to be involved in the meetings, despite the adamant denial of those around him, and Harry had gotten a chance to pull him aside and talk about the Black heirship.

When he heard about his engagement to Susan and Daphne, the dog had a good laugh. As Sirius put it, "I knew both their mums, if they look anything like them you won big."

Harry had decided not to mention anything about what he'd learned to anyone else, some small retribution for all of them hiding the Order from him. When the trio had returned to Hogwarts, Harry began interacting with Susan and Daphne, both having been informed of the engagement by Gringotts.

The three got on great, although Ron and Hermione thought it was odd that he suddenly became friends with, as Ron put it, "a duffer and a slimy snake." Harry didn't care, happy to have people who he could trust fully.

Harry was pulled out of his musing by a knock on the compartment door. He figured it was Ron and Hermione, but they wouldn't have knocked.

"Come in."

The door slid open and Harry was mildly surprised at who it was. His eyes were drawn to the wand pointed straight at him as the person entered the compartment.

"What are you-" Harry began to say as he started to stand up.

The person didn't give him the chance to do anything, however. "Avada Kedavra."

Those haunting words took Harry back to the night his parents died, the sight he'd seen whenever he was near Dementors. Those were the last words Harry heard as a flash of green came, and he slumped lifelessly in his seat.
