Chereads / the Supreme Idiot of the Martial World / Chapter 4 - The Fool, The Demons, & The Luck of 9999

Chapter 4 - The Fool, The Demons, & The Luck of 9999

The city had finally settled into its usual rhythm. The market hummed with life, merchants shouted their wares, and the scent of roasted duck filled the air.

And at the center of it all?

Walid, the human disaster, clinging to a powerful noblewoman like a lost puppy.

The once-feared Zhao Rengui had been chased away with his tail between his legs, and Walid was now under Lady Jingfei's 'protection.'

To any normal person, this would've been a golden opportunity.

But Walid?

He was too busy scratching his belly and yawning.

"Ahhh… this is the life. 😌💕"

He leaned against Jingfei, grinning like an idiot.

"Mistress, can we go eat something? I feel like my soul is starving. 🤤🔥"

Jingfei raised an eyebrow.

"So shameless. You expect me to feed you too?"

Walid nodded enthusiastically.

"Mistress, this little one is weak and fragile! If you don't feed me, I might faint! 😭🍗"

Jingfei sighed.

"I don't know if you're an idiot or a genius."

At that moment—

DING!

🔊 [SYSTEM NOTICE: Host's Luck Stat: 9999+ 💫]

🔊 [System Murmur: This fool… HOW IS HIS LUCK THIS HIGH?! 🤯]

The system's silent grumbling went unnoticed by Walid, who was too busy imagining plates of food.

Little did he know…

His 'Mistress' was no ordinary woman.

And soon, he would realize he was nothing but a fly walking into a spider's web.

The Demoness' Shadow

Jingfei led Walid through the city, moving with graceful confidence. Everywhere she passed, people lowered their heads in respect—or fear.

Walid?

He was too dense to notice.

"Mistress, do you have a mansion? A castle? A mountain of gold? Can I have some pocket money? 😍💰"

Jingfei smirked.

"How bold. You are but a stray dog, yet you ask for a treasure chest?"

Walid pouted.

"Come on, Mistress! You don't want me to starve, do you? 🥺🐶"

Jingfei chuckled.

"If you behave… perhaps I'll consider it."

Walid's eyes sparkled.

"Then I will be the most well-behaved servant ever! Look! I even walk behind you like a proper young master's dog! 🐕🔥"

DING!

🔊 [SYSTEM NOTICE: Host has officially achieved new levels of stupidity.]

🔊 [System Murmur: This guy is the dump of dumpest… but WHY IS HE STILL ALIVE?!]

Jingfei hid a smirk behind her sleeve.

She could feel her subordinates lurking nearby, hidden in the shadows. They were waiting for her signal.

Waiting to capture the boy who had unknowingly walked into their trap.

Because Walid wasn't just some street rat.

He was their target.

And Jingfei had been assigned to bring him in.

The Truth Beneath the Mask

They arrived at a luxurious tea house, its red lanterns swaying gently in the wind. Jingfei led Walid inside, guiding him toward a private room.

Walid, still blissfully ignorant, flopped onto a silk cushion and stretched his legs.

"Ahhh~ This is the dream. Soft cushions, free food, a beautiful mistress… 😍"

Jingfei poured him a cup of tea, her golden eyes gleaming.

"Tell me, little stray… what is your name?"

Walid grinned.

"Walid, the Great! 😎🔥"

Jingfei tilted her head.

"And where are you from?"

Walid paused.

That was a good question.

"Uhh… somewhere far away! 🌍"

Jingfei smiled.

"I see. And do you have family?"

Walid shrugged.

"Eh, not really. I've been alone for a while."

Jingfei's gaze darkened.

So he truly had no one.

That made things… easier.

"How sad."

Walid laughed.

"Nah, I prefer it this way! Freedom is the best! No rules, no responsibilities, just me and my adventures! 🎉"

Jingfei's smile widened.

"You truly are an interesting one."

She tapped her finger lightly on the table.

And in an instant—

The walls of the room shifted.

The lanterns dimmed.

And the once-cozy tea house turned into a prison.

Walid's Brain Finally Activates

Walid froze.

Something was wrong.

The warm air turned cold. The servants outside had vanished. The tea, which had once smelled sweet, now carried a bitter undertone.

And then—

He saw them.

Shadows.

Figures cloaked in black robes, emerging from the walls like ghosts.

Their eyes gleamed red. Their movements were silent. And their weapons were already drawn.

Walid's smile stiffened.

"Uh… Mistress? What's going on? 😰"

Jingfei stood up.

And in the dim candlelight, her once warm expression faded into something sinister.

"Walid."

Her voice was colder than ice.

"Did you truly think I would take in a street rat for no reason?"

Walid gulped.

"Uhhh… yes? 😨"

Jingfei chuckled.

"Foolish."

She stepped closer, her golden eyes glowing faintly in the dark.

"You are no ordinary brat, Walid."

Walid backed up slowly.

"I… I really think you've got the wrong guy! I'm just a handsome, unlucky idiot! 🥲"

Jingfei's lips curled into a smirk.

"Unlucky? No. Quite the opposite."

She flicked her fingers—

And one of the black-robed figures lunged.

Epilogue: The Luck That Never Runs Out

Time slowed.

The blade descended.

Walid's life flashed before his eyes.

Was this it?

Was this where his ridiculous luck finally ended?

DING!

🔊 [SYSTEM NOTICE: HOST'S LUCK STAT (9999+) ACTIVATED!]

🔊 [UNIVERSAL INTERFERENCE IN PROGRESS.]

And then—

CRASH!

The ceiling collapsed.

From above, a giant stone lantern fell directly onto the attacker's head.

The entire room shook.

The assassin collapsed instantly, unconscious.

Silence.

Jingfei's eye twitched.

Walid?

He stared blankly.

Then, slowly…

He grinned.

"HAHAHAHA!!! MY LUCK IS UNBEATABLE!!! 😂🔥"

Jingfei sighed.

For the first time in years, she felt genuine disbelief.

What… was this idiot?

And why…

Was he still alive?
