Chereads / The Price of His Name / Chapter 2 - The Beginning.

Chapter 2 - The Beginning.

SOME MONTHS AGO....

I sat there and stared at my dad. His motionless body staying still on the bed. For the past months, he hadn't moved an inch.

Nothing.

My dad is a retired detective and one day when he was coming home from dinner with his friends, his car was ambushed and he was shot.

He landed in the hospital and I, his 25 year old daughter who had just gotten fired from her work place for publishing an article sue wasn't supposed to has been taking care of him every since.

My name is Anna Thompson. The only child and daughter of William Thompson.

I worked as a writer for a publishing company and I publish articles every week. I then went on to publish about a major millionaire which shook tables. I was fired because of that. It was either apologize publicly or get fired. And I wasn't about to apologize for something that was true.

It was at that period my dad got shot. He was just coming back from hanging out with his friends and he was ambushed and shot. Thank Goodness he was brought to his hospital early enough.

I had spent all on my savings on him. All my money. Even his. Everything. Gone.

Now he was on the verge of getting kicked out of the hospital and I not getting the funds to pay for the bills.

I had taken up a waitering job, but it wasn't enough. He had been on this bed for months and it just feels like his health keeps deteriorating each day.

I prayed to the heavens if there was one everyday to have mercy on my dad. For a miracle to happen. For something to tick.

I couldn't lose my dad. He was everything I ever had. I already lost my mom at a young age and losing my dad now would also mean losing myself.

"Miss Thompson?"

I turned to the person who had called my name. The doctor was standing by the door.

I immediately stood up. "Dr White." I moved from my father's bed towards him.

"How are you doing miss Thompson?"

"Living." I say gently. "Wishing and praying everyday that he wakes up." I said. Referring to my father.

"Sorry to hear that." But something about his tone didn't tell me he felt sorry at all. "I have some news for you."

There it was.

The real reason he was here.

"I'm listening."

"Would you like to come to my office?"

"Here's fine." I was starting to become anxious.

"Well," He began. "We ran some tests on Mr Thompson as we said we were going to since he wasn't responding to the drugs and wasn't regaining consciousness...."

Oh Lord.

I could feel it at the pit of my stomach this was going to be a bad news.

"And we found out some pieces of the bullets were found in him?"

What?

"When we first ran the tests after the surgery, everything was clear but it seems that is not so miss Thompson."

What is he saying?

"Now those pieces have damaged his....."

I wasn't even listening anymore. The only thing I could hear was the loud sound of my heart beating frantically against my chest.

What do they mean some pieces of bullets were found in his chest?

What do they mean it damaged some parts?

"And we'll need to do surgery to get them out before it's too late." He concludes.

And what does it mean before it's too late??

"Miss Thompson?"

I couldn't speak. I couldn't react.

So may things were running through my mind, at the same time my mind was blank.

I don't even have the money to sort for my day to day bills but for a surgery?

"Miss Thompson?" Dr white calls my name again and I snap out of my thoughts.

"I.....I-"

I couldn't seem to form words. I didn't even know what to say.

"I know it's a lot to handle at the moment but I just want to remind you that this surgery is necessary for him miss Thompson." He says and walks out of the room.

Well, he has said his piece. And he has left me to think about the chances and consequences of this matter.
