Chereads / twin hybrids / Chapter 2 - 2

Chapter 2 - 2

The morning sky was streaked with shades of gold and pink, a quiet calm settling over the world, but inside the mansion, Violet and Ash felt anything but at peace. The night had been a battle, both external and internal, with Ash on the verge of losing control, and Violet desperately clinging to the bond that held them together.

But now, with the first light of dawn creeping through the heavy curtains, the weight of what lay ahead hung in the air like a storm about to break.

"Violet," Ash's voice broke the silence, rough with the exhaustion of the night's struggles. His golden eyes glimmered, but they weren't the same as before—there was something harder in them now, as if the dragon inside him was clawing its way out. He had never felt more like a stranger to her than he did in this moment. "It's time."

Violet looked up from the window where she had been staring blankly, her reflection merging with the rising sun. "Time for what?"

"The academy." He spoke the words like a dark prophecy, one they both knew had been inevitable but still didn't fully understand.

Violet felt the cool weight of his words settle in her chest. The Supernatural Academy. It was a place for beings like them—hybrids, outcasts, and powerful creatures too dangerous to be left unchecked. It was also the only place where they might stand a chance at learning to control their abilities. To survive.

But neither of them were certain they were ready for what awaited them there. They had been trained in the arts of combat and magic from a young age, but this was different. This was not their home. This was a school where the strongest creatures in the world—vampires, werewolves, dragons, and more—would be vying for power.

Ash's eyes narrowed as he saw the doubt flicker in Violet's gaze. "Don't worry," he muttered, his voice rough. "We'll figure this out. The academy will teach us how to manage everything. We won't let our blood control us."

"You're sure about that?" Violet asked, her voice hesitant. "I've heard stories, Ash. It's not just the training that's dangerous there—it's the competition. Every student will be trying to prove themselves. Some won't want us there. Some might even want us dead."

A flicker of a smirk appeared on Ash's lips, though it was tinged with bitterness. "Let them try. I've faced worse than schoolyard bullies."

Violet sighed. "I know. But the last thing we need right now is to be fighting everyone. I can't lose you to this war between your dragon and wolf. Not when we've only just started learning how to control it."

Her words hit Ash harder than he expected. He clenched his jaw, fists tightening by his sides. "I won't let it take me. Not if I have you by my side."

A brief silence stretched between them, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The understanding they shared ran deeper than words. They had always been there for each other, even in the most dangerous of times. This... this would be no different.

But there was a heavier truth between them that neither could deny: The academy would be their greatest test yet.

The hum of the transportation spell surrounded them like a soft whisper, the wind pulling at Violet's dark hair as she and Ash stood together in the glowing circle. The ancient incantations of their ancestors had been woven into the spell, preparing them for the transition from their home to the sprawling gates of the Supernatural Academy.

The academy stood like a fortress in the distance—its towering spires and dark stone walls looming against the sky. A place of power, a place of danger, and a place where both light and darkness collided.

Violet could feel the overwhelming energy of the academy even before they arrived. It was a place filled with secrets, where the past clung to the very stone walls. And she could feel it all—the tension, the power, the expectations.

As the spell flickered out, they were no longer standing in the empty field of their mansion. Instead, they stood before the colossal gates of the academy, the ancient symbols carved into the stone shining in the dim twilight. The air crackled with the presence of countless supernatural beings.

"Welcome to Academy Caelum," Ash said softly, almost as if he were speaking to himself, his golden eyes scanning the towering gates. His muscles tensed, but Violet could tell he was doing his best to keep his composure. The presence of so many powerful creatures made his instincts roar. The wolf in him wanted to fight, while the dragon yearned to claim dominance over the others.

Violet's fingers brushed against his arm in a gesture of silent support. "This is it. Time to face our future."

Without another word, they stepped forward, crossing the threshold into the academy grounds.

The gates creaked open, revealing a sprawling campus filled with students of all shapes and sizes. Creatures of every kind wandered through the courtyards—vampires with piercing red eyes, werewolves with lithe, powerful frames, dragons with leathery wings tucked against their backs, and fae with eyes that glittered like stars. All of them were hybrids, like Violet and Ash, each one trying to find their place among the chaos that would soon consume them all.

But even as they entered, the whispers began. Eyes turned toward them—some curious, some wary, and others with open disdain.

"What are they doing here?"

"Twins? Half-vampire, half-what? Phoenix and dragon?"

"You think they'll last long?"

Violet's heart skipped a beat at the harsh words, but she refused to flinch. Ash's gaze was already locked on the approaching headmaster, a towering figure of imposing presence—half-angel, half-wolf. Professor Fenix had the power to mold and destroy, and he had seen it all before. No one could hide their weaknesses from him. The academy was a brutal place, and he would see through their every flaw.

As they approached, the professor gave them a long, searching look, his wings rustling behind him. He didn't speak immediately. Instead, his amber eyes flicked from Violet to Ash, taking in their hybrid heritage.

"You're here," he said finally, his deep voice reverberating through the courtyard. "But know this: You will be tested in ways that you cannot yet fathom. And if you fail…" He paused, his eyes hardening. "You will fall."

Violet and Ash stood side by side, their bond unspoken but undeniable. They didn't flinch. They didn't step back. This was their trial. This was their moment.

"We're ready," Violet said, her voice steady.

Ash nodded, a fire burning behind his golden eyes. "We've faced worse."

Professor Fenix's lips curled into a thin, knowing smile. "We'll see."

And with that, they stepped into the heart of the academy—where their destinies would be written in blood, fire, and fury.
