Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Randomly Choosing A Book Can Lead To Surprising Discoveries.

"OH MY GOD!!!"

'WHAT IS THAT THING?!?"

"DRACO~! DRACO~!"

"Good morning, world!" Dracovish rejoiced, just awakening. He flapped his fins with joy, dancing around the laboratory. The surrounding scientists stood speechless. Apparently, combining a Fossilized Fish fossil and a Fossilized Drake fossil had been a terrible idea. Silly scientists!

But where did Dracovish come from? What happened in the past hour? Well, let me tell you what really happened...

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

We flash back to an hour before Dracovish's birth.

"Dude... My arms are giving out... I can't carry this thing anymore..!"

"It isn't that bad. If you'd like to switch fossils I'd be happy to."

"What difference would that make exactly?"

Meet Flint. Scientist in training and Doctor in-the-making. If you couldn't tell, he's the one having no difficulty carrying the fossil. Beside him is his long-time best friend, Cory.

"How... How far are we from the fossil lab?"

Cory asked. Nearly dragging the fossil across the floor.

"We just started walking"

Flint replied.

"HOW!??!"

I'm sure Cory will persevere. Let's examine our characters a bit more. Flint isn't the main character of our story, but I'll talk about him anyway. He's wearing a pristine white lab coat, devoid of even a speck of dust. It hangs unbuttoned, revealing an Aerodactyl t-shirt decorated with the words, "GO DRAGONS!"

His hair is pitch black, streaked with white highlights. He possesses a semi-masculine build and a handsome face. In his hands, he holds a large drake fossil. Cory, on the other hand, is holding a similarly sized, but slightly smaller, fish fossil.

Tap... Tap... Tap...

They both decided to walk the rest of the way there silent. Cory is still struggling to keep his balance, and Flint minds his own business.

Soon, they arrived at the lab door.

"FINALLY! That felt like forever!"

It had only been five minutes.

"Good job, bud."

The sleek, metallic laboratory door opened with a silent, automated glide as Cory approached, its sensors detecting his presence.

"Welcome!" a female voice exclaimed.

"P-Professo-"

"WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG!?!"

This is Professor Sonia, a slender young woman with ginger hair and turquoise eyes. Having stepped into her grandmother's professorial role, she now wears her inherited white lab coat. Incredibly gorgeous.

"Surely it isn't that hard to carry two stones here! It's just two hallways down!"

Her voice, a furious roar, echoed across the room.

"These fossils are stupidly heavy!"

"Flint seems to be just fine."

Cory looked to his left and saw a perfectly normal Flint. Still holding the fossil in his hands.

"Are you a God?"

"No, I'm Flint."

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

50 minutes had passed.

Two fossil resurrection machines stood in the center of the laboratory. On the left, nothing stirred. But on the right, a small embryo began to form.

"Hey, is this normal?" Cory asked Sonia.

"I don't know. Our fossil specialist couldn't make it today, so I'm just going off his notes," she replied, a hint of confusion in her tone.

"So, Professor, what exactly are we looking at?"

Sonia's eyes lit up. "Well, well, my scientist protégés, we're using these resurrection machines to bring back ancient Pokémon! On the right, we can see the embryo of Arctovish forming from the Fossilized Dino and Fish. And on the left, we're supposed to see Dracozolt, but... I guess he's taking his time~."

Cory turned to a large box of candies. "And those are for...?"

"We have a bunch of Rare Candies in that box—over 200! We're going to slowly feed them and see how their strength evolves over time!"

Two hundred Rare Candies. If someone were to eat them all, they'd reach well over level 200. Luckily, such a level didn't exist. Right?

"Professor Sonia, it's been over forty minutes since the experiment started, and only Arctovish has begun to form," Flint observed.

"I think we should check on it."

"Er... you may be right! Let's take a look!" Sonia exclaimed.

The trio moved to examine the machines.

"Ah! Look at that!" Sonia pointed to the right machine. "Arctovish's head is starting to form!"

"Is it just me, or does it look like it's smiling?" Cory questioned.

Flint carefully examined the machine, finding nothing out of the ordinary. Fossil Machine Model VIII, a complex assembly of a top, tank, base, and display, stood as a bulky, industrial device designed for extracting DNA from cleaned fossils.

"Do you think adding Rare Candies would speed up the process?"

Flint looked at Cory with confusion. Whilst Sonia's eyes lit up with stars and beamed and the thought.

"That's an excellent idea!"

She rushed to grab the box of rare candies and pressed it upon the glass surface of the fossil machine.

"Here Here Arctovish~!"

At the sudden sight of the rare candy, the embryo began to shake.

It started... to form a body. Tripling it's growth.

"E-Eh~..?"

"P-Professor??? I-Is this supposed to happened?!" Cory shrieked.

"Ehh?! I-I don't know!!"

Sonia started to panic. She rushed towards the machine panel.

It read...

CODE RED ! CODE RED ! CODE RED ! "

The laboratory lights plunged into a stark red, and a deafening alarm blared. Flint reacted instantly. "Lapras, shield us!" He tossed a Poké Ball into the air. With a flash and a soft cry, Lapras materialized, its blue form shimmering as it landed.

"Lapraaaas!"

Hissing steam filled the room, punctuated by the shattering of glass.

CRACK… CRACK… CRACK!

Lapras emitted a piercing screech, an icy shield erupting before it, enveloping the trio. A tremendous wave of pressure slammed into the shield, forcing Lapras back.

"Laaa... Praaaas..."

...Pshhhh...

"Did... did it stop?" Cory peeked cautiously from behind Lapras.

"You did well, Lapras," Flint said, patting Lapras's shell.

The trio moved past Lapras to assess the damage.

As the mist slowly cleared, the fossil machines came into view. It was almost as if nothing had happened, save for the cracked glass display of one machine, now filled with a swirling fog. It looked as though the embryo had vanished.

Sonia examined the machine from top to bottom.

"Yup! I think we're oka-"

CRASH!!!

"OH MY GOD!!!"

'WHAT IS THAT THING?!?"

The deafening SHATTER of glass enveloped the room. What emerged from the swirling dust and fog was a creature of chaotic assemblage, Dracovish.

Its circular, fish-like head, mounted disturbingly on the powerful, green legs and tail of a dinosaur, jerked erratically.

Red and white markings framed its sharp, black eyes, while three jagged teeth protruded from its gaping maw. The abrupt, circular cutoff of its tail hinted at the unnatural fusion.

"DRACO~! DRACO~!"

Flint took out his Pokedex and scanned the monster immediately.

"I-It's... a Dracovish!"

"Dracovish!" the Pokedex announced. "Powerful legs and jaws made it the apex predator of its time. Its own overhunting of its prey was what drove it to extinction. Its mighty legs are capable of running at speeds exceeding 40 mph, but this Pokémon can't breathe unless it's underwater!"

"Oh no..! We must have mixed the Fossilized Drake and Fish fossils together!" Sonia trembled, struggling to rise.

"Dracooo~?"

Dracovish slowly turned, its gaze fixated on the box of candies. The bright blue glow caught its eye instantly. With an astonishing burst of speed, it stomped forward and leaped at the box.

Its powerful jaws clamped down on the container, and in a single, frenzied gulp, it devoured every last candy.

"Flint..! What the hell do we do?!" Cory yelled, struggling to stand against the tremors.

"Isn't it obvious?" Flint retorted.

Lapras let out a resonant roar. A ball of ice materialized before its open jaw.

"Lapras, Ice Beam!"

With a final, piercing screech, Lapras thrust its head forward, unleashing a condensed beam of ice at the rampaging Dracovish.

The condensed beam of ice struck Dracovish squarely. Steam erupted, billowing through the laboratory as the Ice Beam continued its relentless assault.

Dracovish remained motionless, seemingly unaffected by the frigid onslaught.

When the beam finally ceased, Dracovish stood its ground, staring blankly at Lapras with a dumbfounded expression.

Flint stood frozen, too stunned to speak and too afraid to move.

"It did nothing..." he whispered.

Dracovish lumbered forward, each heavy stomp... stomp... stomp... sending tremors through the laboratory. Flint felt an oppressive aura, a primal fear gripping him.

"I'm about to die."

It drew closer... and closer...

Suddenly, Lapras stood in front of Flint, a protective barrier between Flint and the monstrous Pokémon, ready to absorb any attack.

But instead of attacking, Dracovish walked past him. It veered towards the darkest corner of the room.

A standing whiteboard leaned against the wall, its surface a ghostly pale rectangle in the near-darkness.

A stray black marker, its cap carelessly discarded, lay in the whiteboard's tray, a stark contrast against the faded white.

Dracovish's powerful blue jaws clamped onto the whiteboard, dragging it to the front of the bewildered trio. Then, it retrieved the black marker with its mouth and began to write.

"W-What is it doing?" Cory asked.

"I-I-I don't know..?" Sonia replied.

"Draco Draco. Dracovish~!"

Oh my, it looks like Dracovish is giving a lesson.

Dracovish, with surprising dexterity, scrawled a series of symbols onto the whiteboard. In the center, a water droplet encircled by a stylized dragon took shape. To its right, a simple cross was drawn, followed by depictions of fire, rain, and a solid black square. A snowflake was added beside the square.

To the left of the dragon-droplet symbol, a bold checkmark appeared. Further left, another dragon drawing was accompanied by a strange image. A cylinder with butterfly wings.

"Oh~! Aha~!" Sonia exclaimed, bursting into laughter.

"He's making fun of you!"

"What do you mean?" Flint asked, bewildered.

"Because Dracovish is both a Water and Dragon type, Ice-type attacks won't be super effective against it! Look on the left," Sonia pointed to the dragon and the cylinder-like symbol.

"Dracovish only takes super effective damage against Dragon and Fairy types! Assuming that's what that thing next to the dragon is, riiight~?"

"Dracoviiish~!"

Dracovish leaped with joy, surprisingly landing without causing any tremors.

Sonia approached Dracovish, gently running her palms over its slick, fish-like skin. She looked up at the ungainly creature.

"What's your dream, young one?" she asked.

Dracovish tilted its head, a flicker of confusion in its eyes. What was its dream?

It had only been born moments ago, and already it had brought havoc in the laboratory. Like many fossil Pokémon brought back through the resurrection machine, it was expected to join their team, to repay the debt of its revival.

But something stirred within Dracovish, a silent refusal.

A window lined the laboratory wall, and the bright morning sun bathed Dracovish's slimy skin in its warm light.

That is what I want, it thought, a nascent longing taking root.

It left the laboratory room. The trio followed him out.

Dracovish, somehow knew its way around the facility and ended up at the exit doors.

The automatic doors slid open for him and he took his first steps outside.

The bright sun shined on him. It felt enlightened.

THIS WORLD IS MINE! ", it thought!

"DRAAACOVIIIISH~!"

It walked away. From the facility that birthed it... No.

To the birth of him by him. The resting place of what he was, and the birth place of what he wants to be.

To become the champion of Pokémon! Is what he thought. And onward he went. Taking step by step, to find itself, and to become champion.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

"So... Would anyone like to volunteer to pay for the damages?"

Sonia asked.
