Creatures from nightmares are real. They hunt in the shadows, lurking in the night. The strongest among them stalk even during the day.
They eat human flesh, drink their blood, and devour their organs. Sometimes, they prey on children. Other times, they prefer virgins — not out of necessity but simply because they can and they want.
Religious orders and hunter organizations exist to keep these horrors at bay, patrolling the borders of human settlements, believing they can hold the darkness back.
But they fail more often than they'd like to admit.
One of those creatures slipped into the city. It tore through a home, leaving nothing but blood and ruin. The victims was just a simple mercenary family.
All of them were supposed to be dead that night. But one survived.
And in the aftermath of that slaughter, the oldest son of that family awakened a power unlike any other. Something called the Abyss System.
Now, he hunts them.
And soon, the world will learn why he is the most dangerous hunter to ever exist.
---
A man with long dark hair and sharp eyes sprinted through the alley.
His footsteps were almost silent and didn't even disturbing the puddles beneath him as he moved.
His clothes were simple-a long, dark coat that fluttered behind him, and black boots that struck the ground with barely a sound.
In his hand was his weapon, a revolver, its long barrel gleaming under the flickering streetlamps and rain.
His fingers wrapped around the handle with firm grip and his focus was locked on the vampire in front of him.
The vampire stumbled ahead, blood dripping from a deep wound in its right chest.
The creature's pace was erratic and his face twisted in a grimace of pain and rage. He was fast, but not fast enough.
The hunter was closing in.
With a quick move, the man planted a boot against the wall and propelled himself upward and moving in a perfect arc.
His feet gripped the stone like a predator on the hunt and he vaulted from one building to the next.
The vampire cursed under his breath. His eyes flashing with rage and fear as he felt the hunter gain on him.
The wounded vampire turned sharply, his back slamming against the crumbling wall of an old decrepit building.
His eyes burned with fury, his fangs bared in a snarl of frustration. He gathered his strength but the hunter was faster.
The hunter lunged, his body twisting mid-air as he landed lightly on the wall beside the vampire.
The moment his feet hit the cold stone he pushed off again and closing the distance.
His movements were smooth like a deadly dance - running along the wall, leaping off into the air, and landing with unnatural precision no human capable of it. While keeping his eyes locked on the vampire.
The vampire hissed and with a flick of its hand, he unleashed a burst of dark energy.
The shadows themselves seemed to warp and twist in response but the hunter was already out of reach, dodging with a flicker of movement.
He barely felt the air stir as the dark arrow-like attack missed, his eyes narrowing as he dropped to the ground.
The vampire recoiled, its fangs gnashing.
"Damn you, human!" he spat in anger and pain.
But his words were meaningless cause the man was already upon him, his revolver raised and aimed with cold precision.
BANG!
A single shot rang out and echoing through the alley as the bullet pierced the air and sank deep into the vampire's shoulder.
"KYAAAKHH!"
The creature roared in agony and falling back against the wall, but the hunter was already moving again.
He didn't wait for the pain to settle. He didn't allow the creature a moment of respite.
In an instant, he was there. He drove his shoulder into the vampire's chest and sending him crashing to the ground.
The vampire's cursed eyes stared up at him with hatred and fury evident in every inch of his contorted expression.
The man stood over the vampire with steady breath. His eyes filled with a focus and coldness that spoke of his mastery over this world of shadows and blood.
The vampire beneath him writhed, his wounds bleeding from the special bullets that will not kill him but cause him tremendous pain. His body trembling with rage and pain.
Without a word, the hunter leveled his revolver once more and aimed at the vampire's legs. The vampire's eyes widened in realization just before another gunshot cracked through the night.
BANG!
The bullet slammed into the vampire's left leg just below the knee. A scream tore from his throat again in a shrill sound.
His body spasmed as the pain shot through him like fire, his hands clutching at his shattered limb.
"AHHHH!" The vampire's scream subsided into a guttural hiss, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He gritted his teeth.
"You're dead, human!" The vampire's voice was a rasp. "I worship Khar'zoth, the Lord of the Void!" His eyes burned with hatred as he cursed. "He will tear your body apart, piece by piece. He will make you suffer for this insolence and you will never see the dawn again!"
The man's gaze flickered briefly to the vampire's face, a smirk curling at the corner of his lips.
He wasn't moved by the creature's words. Gods will not bother with pathethic creatures like them.
He stepped forward, closing the distance between them. The vampire's eyes followed him.
The hunter's fingers wrapped around the handle of something small, it was a silver stake.
The vampire's eyes widened as the hunter raised the stake and he tried to pull his injured body away, but it was already too late.
The hunter drove the silver stake into the vampire's left arm. The moment the cold metal touched the vampire's flesh, a hiss of sizzling air filled the night.
The left arm began to wither and turning to ash as the silver burned through the vampire's skin.
The vampire screamed again as his arm disintegrated before his very eyes.
"NO! You-!"
The vampire's words were cut off as the silver burned through him like fire, his body spasming in violent convulsions.
The hunter could hear the subtle, cautious sounds behind him - the creak of wooden shutters and the quick rustling of curtains.
Windows were closing, doors locking. The mundane humans in the nearby buildings were too afraid to intervene and too weak to even consider it.
They were trapped in their own world of helplessness, watching from the safety of their darkened homes as creatures like this vampire roamed their streets.
The hunter knew this feeling well. He had been like them once. But that was before the System had chosen him.
Now, standing over the vampire, he was nothing like the terrified broken man he once was. He was the hunter.
He crouched down and pointed his revolver at the vampire's forehead.
The vampire's eyes were filled with terror. He tried to move but the silver's burning feeling and the fear grip on his body held him still.
The hunter's lips curled into a cold smile. "You're in no condition to move. You'll only suffer more if you try."
The vampire's eyes moved to the hunter's weapon. He knew the hunter's bullets wouldn't kill him. The bullets weren't meant to end his life - they were designed for something far worse. Pain.
"I don't want to waste time with you. Talk. Where is Arthuros? You know I'm not going to kill you quickly unless you tell me."
"You'll never find him! You'll never-"
The hunter pressed the barrel of his revolver into the vampire's forehead, cutting off his words.
His smirk deepened as the vampire recoiled in terror.
"Tell me where Arthuros is, or I will make you regret this."
The vampire's recalled the agonizing pain from the bullets.
The hunter didn't need to say more; the vampire knew what was coming. He couldn't bear another round of that agony.
"The Pendrake Mansion..." he gasped.
Then, without another word, the hunter raised his revolver and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The bullet slammed into the vampire's skull, and for a moment the world seemed to still.
The vampire's body twitched, his eyes rolling back as pain exploded within his head.
"AAAAAA!!!"
He screamed, the agony of the bullet inside his brain far worse than anything he had ever known.
The hunter waited for ten seconds while smiling and listening to the vampire's scream and tortured face.
When he satisfied, the hunter pulled out the silver stake and plunged it into the vampire's chest.
The silver burned through the creature's heart and turning his body into ash in mere moments.
The vampire's scream of pain was cut off as his entire form dissolved into nothingness, leaving behind only the lingering smell of burnt flesh and decay.
The rain continued to fall as the hunter rose to his feet. He wiped the silver stake clean with a cloth from his pocket and sheathed it back into his coat.
The city around him remained quiet as if nothing had happened at all.
After he killed the vampire, the System showing the line of runes he always saw.
[You killed a Vampire!]
[You gained 150 exp!]
[You gain 30 Abyssal Essence!]
[Main Quest progression: You are getting closer to Vampire Lord Arthuros!]
A sharp exhale escaped his lips. It was a strange entity called the System that always watching and rewarding him for each step closer to his target. The notifications faded into the back of his mind again.
The blood and ash of the vampire he had just killed were already being swept away by the rain and disappearing into the labyrinth of the city's sewers, becoming one with the city's filth.
Lux, the hunter, turned on his heel and stepped toward the crumbling wall of a nearby building.
His crouched slightly. Then, with his inhuman agility granted by the System, he leapt upward, his boots finding the narrow footholds in the slick stone.
He scaled the wall with ease. Rain lashing against his face as he ascended higher and higher.
Finally, he reached the top of an old, weathered tower that loomed over the district.
The crumbling tower groaned but it provided the perfect vantage point for the hunter.
Lux perched at the edge, his sharp eyes scanning the rain-soaked city below.
This was Crynthall, a sprawling decayed metropolis steeped in shadows and despair.
Thunder cracked across the sky illuminating the labyrinth of alleys and buildings.
The city has become a home for the monsters humanity called Night Creatures, Supernatural Kinds, or simply Underworld Creatures.
Lux's gaze hardened as he thought of the Vampire Lord Arthuros who ruled this forsaken place.
The governor of Crynthall had once been a symbol of fragile order but Arthuros had changed that. The vampire lord had killed him in cold blood.
Since then, Arthuros had showing his twisted will on the people, demanding tribute of daughters, wives, or lovers, using his power to enthrall and terrify the poor people here.
It was no wonder the System had directed Lux here. This city reeked of blood and despair — a perfect hunting ground for a creature like Arthuros, and source of Abyss Energy for him when he killed the Supernatural kind here to maje himself stronger.
Lux sat on the edge of the tower. His revolver resting in his lap, rain dripping from his long dark hair.
He called the System runes showing his condition.
