In a realm where time doesn't and the concept of life and death is decided. A clear realm filled with heavenly light and God-like aura this the divine realm that all humans wish to enter during their lifetime, but sadly, that wish is only granted upon their deaths.
My desk is covered and bustled in paperwork and books. I, a young god in training, rested upon my throne holding a scroll. My eyes darted back-and-forth through the text, I had bags underneath my eyes, and after every five minutes, I'd yawn in-between reading.
Suddenly, in a burst of white light, a female had appeared in front of me. She was human, and she appeared to be in her prime. Her eyes took in the surroundings as she looked around. Her presence was foreign, and her movements seemed hesitant and filled with fear. "Greetings Mortal…" I said weakly. "Please take a seat" I directed her to an open chair in front of me.
The woman turned to face me. She gave a subtle nod at my request and directed herself to the chair. Once she sat down, she turned her gaze up at me. "Where am I? What is this place?" She hesitantly asked.
"Well, this is the gap between the mortal plain and the afterlife" I answered.
"The what? Are you saying I…"
"Yes, you died." I bluntly responded. "And it says here you died of natural causes, passed away in your living room" I continued while my eyes scanned a file. The woman didn't respond. Her mind was currently processing the initial shock of her death.
"Now, back to business. You have two options…" I proposed. "You can choose to either go to the afterlife and live your best life or…"
The woman faced me with a curious expression. "Or?" She hesitantly asked.
"Or you can choose to get reincarnated to another world"
My words felt heavy within the air. The options I laid on her weighed a lot. Her mind was still processing the news of her death and the options I had given her.
"Please be quick about it, I have loads of work to get through." I sighed. "Just know, I can't return you back to earth because it's against the rules, and if you don't choose an option then… I'll just send you to purgatory"
Now I've done it. It appears my words sent a chill down her spine, and her initial levels of fear just increased. From her perspective, it feels as which the fate of the world was on her shoulders, but in reality, it's just a simple option.
"I-I'll pick the afterlife" she hesitantly said. Without another word, I pressed a switch underneath my desk, and the woman disappeared just as she came in, that same in blinding light.
Once the woman disappeared, I returned back to my paperwork. My eyes resumed their focus to the scroll I was holding previously. I let out an exasperated sigh. "Ugh! Why do I have to go through this as part of my training!?" I complained to myself.
Suddenly, my assistant, a female angel, had appeared, her wings were pure and white, her golden halo perched upon her silver hair, she had ruby red eyes, and proclein, white skin. "Young Master, you chose to do this, remember?" She said. "You had a—"
"Yeah, yeah, I had a choice to either study while taking on the role of Soul Guider, or go to earth and live a human experience" I cut of her speech and responded with an exasperated expression. "But I still don't see why I have to send souls to their fate while studying for a test at the same time."
"Master, in reality, it is your fault for being easily riled up" She pointed out.
She wasn't wrong. Usually divine beings like us decide upon the test we take in order to become a god. The problem in my book is that I'm easily persuaded into stuff due to my competitive nature.
I remember it like it was yesterday, I was rookie with high expectations until my rival, someone who just happens to outshine me in everything… Ugh, just thinking about him makes me sick. The point being, when we had to decide on our trials we could've picked any options we wanted, I obviously wanted to pick the human experience because it was easier, but my rival chose that option first. I didn't want to pick the same thing only to be outshone by this guy, so I decided I'll just be better than him by taking on two trials; writing the god's test, and working this job.
"But this is all so stressful!…" I groaned. "You know master… mffmm mmf mm" she muffled as she was eating a bag of chips.
"Either eat or speak, you can't do both" I stated. She quickly chewed and gulped down the chips in her mouth.
"Right. As I was saying, you should really know when to chill" She said while resuming to munch down on her bag of chips.
Usually, during our trail, we're given an assistant who acts as our guides. On earth, they're your guardian angels whom you can barely see nor associate with, but here they act as your guides whom you'll be stuck with till the end of time. I just happened to be lucky and got stuck with her Delta, a good for nothing angel who tends to laze around all day eating my snacks.
"Yeah, easy for you to say, at least you CAN chill, but dammit. My pride and bragging rights are at stake, I can't afford a slip up." I said while clenching my fist. "Your ego is going to be your downfall master" She said.
"No, it w—" Delta crumbled the empty packet and tossed the crumbled up ball right at my head. "The hell was that for!?"
"You need to relax sometimes master, learn to let go of your ego." She calmly advised. As I was about to open my mouth to speak, a bright light emerged.
