Aric woke to a weird-sounding robotic voice in his head, and the light grimmed on a screen. He stared at it, confused—what was he looking at right now?

He had just been in an accident a few seconds ago, his car crashing into an out-of-control truck while returning from his first day at his new job.

As he wondered what was happening, memories suddenly filled his head, rushing in like a mighty wave.

"Aghh!" he cried out in pain as they flooded his mind. He grabbed his head and tossed himself on the ground, wherever he was. After a while, the pain stopped.

His head was filled with memories of a boy named Aric. Aric was a half-elf, half-human. His mother had a one-night stand with his father, a high elf, and got pregnant with Aric.

After Aric was born, she was said to have died at childbirth. Aric lived with his father, who neglected him for not being pure-blood, seeing him only as a testament to his father's mistake.

Even though Aric did nothing wrong, many elves hated him to no end. They wanted to get rid of him, remove him from their home, so they framed him.

After the young Aric was framed, his father had no choice but to exile him. He was no longer allowed into any elf tribe, village, or town.

Alone and stranded, he headed for a human kingdom. Sadly, that was not his best idea, as the humans didn't accept him—he was a half-elf, not a human or an elf. He was easy pickings for humans to take out their rage on.

Aric was driven out, chased like a wild animal, and managed to run into the dark forest, a place where all the greatest dangers lay.

But at that point, he was already weak and near death, succumbing to the elements and dying.

"What the hell is all this? What are these memories?" Aric asked. He struggled to get to his feet, and the system screen in front of him vanished as he looked around.

He was standing right in the middle of a thick, vast forest, with only a bit of light from the sun managing to seep in.

"What is happening? Did I really die and somehow come here? Am I Aric?" he asked himself, unsure of what to believe and how to proceed.

There was no point in getting more and more confused. He had evidently died, and there was no arguing that. Somehow, though, he wasn't in the hospital but rather inside the body of a seventeen-year-old half-elf in a world vastly different from his own.

The more he thought about it, the more insane it felt. He wanted to believe that this was just a dream, but the next moment, there was a loud grumble from his stomach, as though his guts were trying to eat themselves.

There was no way a dream would replicate that perfectly. Now was not the time for him to be worried about that. He needed to find some food and get it into his stomach first.

He tried to take a step, but suddenly his feet wobbled, and he fell face-first onto the ground.

[Health: 11/100]

[Stamina: 4/50]

His health and stamina dropped after he fell. Aric looked at the screen in front of him, his eyes especially on the health bar. What would happen if his health fell to zero? Would he die?

He wasn't physically bleeding or anything, but his insides were too roughed up, and his health had seriously fallen. His stamina was the worst—being so low, how was he supposed to carry himself?

But staying at one point would spell death. He started crawling, trying to make some progress. He dragged himself along the floor for a while, but after a few minutes, his stamina and health dropped again.

Luckily, he soon heard the sound of rushing water. He managed to get up on all fours and crawl as fast as he could. The stream came into sight, acting as a sort of adrenaline boost. He pulled himself to the stream and went headfirst into the water.

He started taking rushed gulps, as though his life depended on it.

[You have found a useful natural resource, 50 gold]

[You have found a water body, 50 gold]

[You have made your first step to creating the greatest empire, 100 gold]

[You can use the shop feature to purchase items. You can call out the shop.]

Suddenly, he heard the robotic voice again, and his system screen lit up with several notifications about gaining gold.

He paused to look at them. He didn't know much about it, but he did see gold and a shop. He was hungry and willing to try anything.

"Shop," he called.

The screen immediately changed into one filled with several items and their prices underneath.

Aric's eyes widened in amazement as he saw so many items inside, even precooked meals. But when he looked at the price, his heart sank. They had prices in the thousands of gold.

But all hope was not lost because the system seemed to sell raw ingredients for much less in the shop, and he could get them and prepare something fast.

With a smile, Aric started looking for what to cook.
